The warmth continues in NYC: sorry Mother Earth, but I’m loving this!
This week, celebs slipped on their holiday best, hit the red carpet, and partied on the West Coast. Christmas-ready colors, lace, prints, and bows were all on the menu.
Let’s see what they wore!
White looks were a trend this week and Mellody Hobson wore one at the Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens London Premiere in a strapless floral sequin LWD alongside husband George Lucas. Her style is impeccable.
The Cast of The Real got all dressed up for the holidays in their red, white, and green. So much fun!
At the Concussion New York City Premiere, Gugu Mbatha-Raw paired a black lace blouse, with a high-waist lace skirt, and bow-accented sandals. Always the epitome of elegance.
Christina Milian was white hot in NYC, slipping on a long-sleeve cutout LWD. Hot!
A short-sleeve leather LBD and illusion pumps were Shanina Shaik’s choices at the Concussion premiere in the Big Apple. Isn’t she gorgeous?
Selena Gomez wore all-white at 103.4 KIIS FM’s Jingle Ball in Chicago, slipping on Victoria Beckham separates for the night. Hot!
While partying at The Nice Guy in West Hollywood, Karrueche Tran uplifted a simple knit and black high-waist skinnies with her favorite Schutz sandals.
Gwen Stefani loves plaid, thus it was no surprise to see her in the heritage print in bold colors with her kids in tow in LA. Cute family!
A classic LBD and glitzy pumps were on the menu for actress Azita Ghanizada. This was simple and chic.
Closing out the week was actress Assa Sylla in a two-tone embellished Christophe Guillarme gown at the 2015 Marrakech International Film Festival Closing Ceremony.
I was just discussing Rachel Roy’s collection with a friend and lo and behold, the universe had something in store! The designer has announced that she will be relaunching her designer line next September (pending any consumer-driven Fashion Week changes) for a Spring 2017 delivery, as reported by WWD:
“I have a brand, I have a president, I have partners that have a shared vision,” stated Roy. Her brand has gone through quite a few shakeups over the past year and a half. Her decade-old collection closed and 2014 also marked the dissolution of her partnership with Jones Apparel Group—resulting in a lawsuit.
Roy won the first round of the suit and the rest of the case was settled in court. She also moved across the country to Los Angeles, which happened to be kismet. She met the partners who are helping her rebuild her designer line in California: Denise Johnston who is her company’s president and Daniel Abramovitch who is the CEO and a partner in Topson Downs, the company that now owns a majority stake in RR.
By her Fashion Week plans, Roy still has strong ties to NYC and even opened a new showroom and office in the Big Apple earlier this year. Of the vision behind her main line, she said, “It was created as a need that I had to look the same way at eight in the morning and eight at night. Basically, it’s for working woman. If you’re not working, then it’s for women who have very full lives.”
Of the sister line, Rachel Rachel Roy, she had this to say: “Rachel Roy is the bigger sister to Rachel Rachel Roy. She is at a point in her career where she can afford that price point. Everything can last in her wardrobe, whereas Rachel Rachel Roy can have more fun with prints and colors and take more chances.”
Exciting news! We’ll be tuned in to Rachel Roy’s website to see how things unfold.
Lupita Nyong’o looked like a beautiful black babe from the future at the Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens European Premiere in a Proenza Schouler Spring 2016 Beaded Peplum Knot Blouse and Sheer Beaded Skirt:
Lineisy Montero wore her look on the runway, which was paired with Lupita’s statement-making earrings and flats. The actress added bold blue lips and ankle-strap sandals to the killer ensemble.
We here at Fashion Bomb Daily don’t have celebrity favorites, but if we did, I’m sure Viola Davis would definitely make our Top 5 list. The effortless beauty truly has tackled the world of media, film and motherhood; all while developing an effortless and enviable style.
We couldn’t help but gush over the recent cover of InStyle, where a natural makeup, untouched chocolate skin, and beautifully coiled Viola Davis graced the covers. It was an amazing sight to behold, marveling at the beauty and richness of skin we all come in!
Born into extreme poverty as a child, the Californian-born, Rhode Island-raised thespian would later go on to pursue her theatrical gifts in college and beyond, joining the Julliard School and later the Actor Screens Guild; however, she would not truly receive her accolades until 2001, where she would win a Tony Award for her portrayal of Tonya in King Hedley II.
After graduating from the Julliard School in 1993, Ms. Davis began her career on stage and later transitioned into film, her performance as Mrs. Miller in Doubt (alongside Meryl Streep, Philip Seymour Hoffman and Amy Adams)earning her several nominations including a Golden Globe, SAG Award and the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress. However, many of us knew her as Aibileen from The Help, where she won a SAG award and surely catapulted her career forward.
Now we know her as our Thursday-night stealer, as we sit glued to the T.V. waiting to see how Annalise Keating will get out of another obstacle in How To Get Away With Murder. Aside from it just being an all-around amazing show, it surely proved at this year’s Emmys: Viola Davis became the first African-American woman, as well as the first black woman of any nationality, to win the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series. In her beautiful interview with InStyle magazine this month, she so eloquently said, “I am happy that our writers challenged the previous limitations of what has been written for women of color and created someone interesting, sexual, dynamic, bold.”
Not only do we care about Fashion over at Fashion Bomb Daily, but we care about people making a difference one conversation at a time. In 2012 she was named one of Time’s “100 Most Influential People In The World”, a year just after the adoption of her beautiful daughter, Genesis. Many of us may remember Genesis, who in leiu of fairy princess outfits or ballerina getups for Halloween, dressed up as Davis after her Emmy win.
Whether it’s discussing the convoluted perception of how Black women are seen in the media (“You can not win an Emmy for roles that are simply not there”), the joys and challenges of being a mom, or the challenges of victims such as her own sister to sexual abuse, Viola Davis is a woman who uses her social influence and voice to speak out and speak for those who may otherwise never be heard.
I think Ms. Davis teaches us all to love the skin we are in, be fearless in our endeavors and forever unapologetic in our quest to get there. That’s why she’s our Beauty Crush Wednesday! Is she yours?
Her long jacket boasts bomber styling, an A-line silhouette, satin finish, light padding, a ribbed stand collar, hidden placket, zip front, long sleeves with ribbed cuffs, and side flap pockets.
Her navy pebbled leather bag is a mini version of the brand’s classic bag. It features double handles, a double top zip tab opening, studded bottom, detachable shoulder strap with trademark dog clips, and pale gold-tone hardware detail.
Cute and casual, no?
Kendall’s jacket is sold-out, but you can get her bag here.
