Welcome to Day 3 everyone! Today wasn’t nearly as exhaustive as Day 2, with only one show on my itinerary to cover (originally there were more, but your girl needed a break!). However…let’s talk about it…

The past few days, we’ve been able to get into shows fairly easily. Show your confirmation ticket, walk up to the doors, be escorted to your seat. Done. However, the realness of Fashion Week happened today at the Fall 2016 show of Herve Leger, where we walked in to find that people were 1) in our seats! and 2) that the room was overcrowded so we would have to stand in the back.

Needless to say, I was annoyed because I couldn’t grab photos or real footage of the show!

From what I could see, certain parts of the collection were very reminiscent of another French-fashion brand (*cough, Balmain), with a lot of fringe detailing, embellishment (especially in the coats and outerwear) and bodycon style layering. I enjoyed the collection, just wish I could have had my seat…

However, that brings me to a good point. During NYFW, it’s eat or be eaten. In situations like this, there’s nothing one can do but accommodate. Standing with Esmesha and Sam, I tried peering over the heads of those in front of me or in between armpits… oh well! At the end of the day, I was just blessed that I got to attend the show, so I will gladly take my losses! Plus, Esmesha and I got to snap a photo with stylist, Ashley Dunn.

The wind in New York is making it so hard to tour the city while here, so we called it an early day and headed back home; undoubtedly, I’m here working on show reviews, posts for the following days and scouring Instagram to see who was where today (*sigh, Alexander Wang of course)! Fashion Week is definitely a fun time, but trust and believe the hours are long and sleep is not really a guarantee. I think I went to bed around 2 am, and then was up by 8. Thank goodness for concealer!

Anywho, I’m tired and ready to order some Beef Pho. The next few days should be eventful as we get closer to our first Claire Cares Fashion Show! If you haven’t already, make sure you RSVP. Catch you guys tomorrow!

Kanye West kicked off the celeb-backed shows of Fashion Week and Rihanna followed right after, showing her Fenty x Puma debut. It was a much more hushed and private function in comparison and just the right thing to follow-up her eagerly anticipated album ANTI.

Cozy fur hoodies were among the pieces we wanted to pull straight off of the runway and onto our backs, while platform creepers, knit beanies, graphic tights, and printed caps were among the functional accents that will fly off the racks instantaneously.

The Addams family going to the gym was Rihanna’s inspiration for the collection: not something that would ever come to fruition in the fictive universe, but definitely something Wednesday and Pugsley would sport in 2016. The designs were equal parts streetwear, athleisure, and rebellious fashion.

Swag was on high (in true Rihanna fashion) and the pieces were functional, but not at all safe: a very tricky balance that isn’t easily achieved, especially not by most in their debut offerings. A slew of trends and fads were incorporated without making the assemblage feel like one big fad—another not-so-easy accomplishment carried off effortlessly by Rihanna.

And we couldn’t discuss the collection without mentioning the shoes. Heeled trainers in mustard and navy, platform boots, black and white lace-up booties mimicking boxing shoes, thigh-high lace-up logo boots: among the most standout designs shown and definitely what both the fashion set and general public will be clamoring for. A round of applause is in order and we’re patiently awaiting for these pieces to ready for purchase.

Thoughts on Fenty x Puma?

For Fall 2016 season, the collection of Herve Leger by Max Azria paid tribute to the “timeless iconoclast”, presenting a cool and confident collection celebrating the brand’s influential roots through looks that appeared both alternative and contemporary.Down the runway, there were a plethora of texture and colors, accented with plaid, fringe and brazen embellishments. Bright colors showed throughout the collection, brightening up the provocative collection that featured a multitude of knee-grazing dresses, fur coats, and striped bandage ensembles. Despite the juxtaposition of patterns and textures that were found in many of the looks, the classic body-con silhouette continued to shine through the piece, celebrating the sensuality of womenswear that Herve Leger has come to be known for.In contrast to the bare dresses with tights and a black boot, ensembles were luxuriously layered, lending to the sensuality of the dresses while offering a rock ‘n’ roll look on outerwear and footwear.

In all, the pieces continued the brand’s aesthetic of capturing the allure of the modern, powerful woman with a collection of color, cut and design. What was your favorite look of the collection?

A few hours ago, Erin Beatty and Max Osterweis debuted the Fall 2016 Ready-to-Wear collection for the Suno brand.

Now, if you’re not a fan of folk inspiration, plaid prints or eccentric ensembles, this presentation may be a little hard to swallow.

Aside from the eclectic nature of this collection, I was instantly drawn to the vintage feel of the looks. They border along the lines of both conservative and somewhat masculine while also garnering a subtle 70’s vibe.

The Suno fashion house also managed to stick to their go-to strategies which include quirky silhouettes, loads of prints and over sized effects. Initially, I wasn’t quite sure as to whether or not this presentation incorporated a “tomboy” vibe but (as the looks progressed) the mix of femininity seemed to make its way down the catwalk.

I admit, I can’t deny a good pinstripe! And, Suno certainly delivered. Models showcased innovative ways to casually style this workwear print by adding wrap touches, playful bell sleeves and dark-hued florals. There was also an impressive amount of proportion play, layered ruffles and statement metallics.

In contrast to the imaginative stylings, I wasn’t too keen on Suno’s plaid obsession.

The satiny numbers were the real MVPs of this collection! From the silky floral-printed midi skirt to the sleek matching dress, Suno’s take on ladylike flair proved to be quite the statement maker.

All in all, the show skewed ultimate cozy feels. It was also served as a breath of fresh air in a sea of endless shows that seem to uplift the typical bodycon/sheer/embellished numbers. With that, I’m curious to see what the next season may hold.

Signing Out — Esmesha

Another day, another big fashion show! Alexander Wang’s front row was star-studded with our favorite style mavens, songstresses, actresses, stylists, and more in attendance.

Let’s see what they wore!

Solange Knowles was white hot in roomy separates, Zoe Kravitz gave a flash of abs in a bralette, and Amandla Stenberg kept it simple in black and white. Beautiful ladies!

Taraji P. Henson smoldered in a perforated stud LBD and red lips. She’s ascending to “I can pull off anything” levels.

Ty Hunter was clad in studded combat boots and a dress emblazoned with Basquiat’s portrait. Hot!

Tyga donned a fur lapel coat, plaid shirt, and camel suede boots while Kylie Jenner sported a silky anorak, black silk maxi dress, and illusion pumps. They both looked great.

Natasha Poly looked every bit the model in all-black.

Beth Ditto was pared-down in a classic denim jacket, velvet LBD, black tights, and ankle-strap pumps.

Black leather, fur, and mesh were all on the agenda for Julia Restoin-Roitfeld. Her style is impeccable!

Who had your favorite look on the front row?

Carly Cushnie and Michelle Ochs were inspired by American film actress and dancer Louise Brooks: remarked as the emblematic figure of the flapper and also the woman responsible for making the blunt bob widely popular. The design duo also pulled influence from the circus: two disparate ideas that came together quite beautifully.

Sultry and seductive is the name of Cushnie et Ochs’s game and this assortment was no exception. Ruffle-accented crop tops gave a flash of abs, cleverly-placed cutouts bared shoulders, thigh-high slits exposed legs, and sleek hair and red lips completed it all. Black leather opera gloves injected a sense of glamour and refinement.

Slinky slip dresses in shimmering sequins, embroidered velvet, flashy lamé, and seam-detailed silk sauntered down the runway: clearly giving a nod to Brooks. Classic stripes made an appearance in a tonal palette on a high-neck, ruffle-collared blouse perfect for the office, an illusion neckline LWD great for an engagement party, and billowing trousers slit up to the knee.

Though the collection was definitely a spectacle to behold, there was certainly nothing zany or circus-like about the designs at hand—it seems the brand is only getting more self-assured and certain of its ability to deliver pieces women want. The pair are expanding and growing their techniques and textures, without sacrificing their signature and very successful aesthetic. This felt like the perfect assemblage for the boss chicks and Hollywood sirens who believe in having it and flaunting it whenever their hearts desire to: brimming with red carpet shoo-ins and poise, with an elegant spirit.

Walking into the presentation of 5:31 Jerome, one would not have thought they were at Fashion Week, but rather at a discotheque, ready to hit the streets for a night out with friends. In lieu of a runway, audience members gathered around a stage where the models stood, bequeathed in colorful frocks of fur and glitter that glistened in the light.

Glam from the moment one walked in, the collection was filled with sequins, paillettes, and feathers, both attached to the models and scattered throughout on the floor. Clothes glistened with studs, sequins and jewel tones, bright tones of blue and purple that shimmered from bedazzled pants to even floor-length fur coats.

The embroidery and embellishment, intricate and carefully detailed, spoke of fine nitpicking to give just the right amount of ‘edge’ to a look without the appearance of ‘costume’ or ‘gimmicky’. An infusion of crazy colors, teased hair, dramatic eyes and makeup complimented each look as the models posed throughout the duration of the show, interacting with each other and with viewers while keeping the energy high through dancing, teasing and playful gestures.

With a collection inspired by constellation and zodiac signs, styling and draping of the clothes eluded to the energy that flooded the entire space; an energy that is becoming known as part of the Jerome aesthetic.

 

Cool, sexy and glamorous all at once, 5:31 Jerome definitely stepped out of the box of conventionality for a fashion show, and instead provided the “South Bronx Glam!” (stated by designer Jerome La’Maar) that became relatable, innovative and yet, still mesmerizing to behold.

5:31 Jerome is definitely the brand to watch, with supporters such as Beyonce actively loving and embracing the brand. The details of embellishments all the way down to the furry heels give the Miu Miu vibe while enticing you to through your head back, kick off those shoes, and dance! The collection had an assortment of stand-out pieces that can be worn individually for the ‘cool chic’ effect or layered for those wanting to push the envelope. It’ll be amazing to see how the brand continues to blossom after such a unique and diverse presentation.

The first few days of New York Fashion Week were action packed, first with Kanye West’s Yeezy Season 3 collection, followed by Rihanna’s #FentyxPuma presentation for Puma!
Both events were packed to the gills with stars.
Take a look at who came to support our favorite Bad Gal:

Wale battled a crowd of selfie seekers wearing a Givenchy contrast collar coat, Saint Laurent biker zippered jeans, and blue sneakers. Love that coat!

Anna Wintour threw her support behind the Vogue Covergirl, blessing the proceedings in a jazzy trench coat and boots.

Naomi Campbell looked like a Barbie in a fur accented white coat. Show ’em how it’s done!

Sofia Richie worked all black with platinum locks and Fenty x Puma creepers.

Chris Rock went for inconspicuous in a utilitarian bubble coat.

Jeremy Scott kept it colorful on the front row.

Ne-Yo rocked green plaid with jeans.

Lastly, the woman of the hour grabbed a snap with Gigi and Bella Hadid, who modeled in the show.
Fun times, indeed!
