On the Scene: The Alexander Wang Fall 2016 Show with Solange Knowles, Taraji P. Henson, Kylie Jenner, and More!

Another day, another big fashion show! Alexander Wang’s front row was star-studded with our favorite style mavens, songstresses, actresses, stylists, and more in attendance.

Let’s see what they wore!

Solange Knowles was white hot in roomy separates, Zoe Kravitz gave a flash of abs in a bralette, and Amandla Stenberg kept it simple in black and white. Beautiful ladies!

Ty Hunter was clad in studded combat boots and a dress emblazoned with Basquiat’s portrait. Hot!

Tyga donned a fur lapel coat, plaid shirt, and camel suede boots while Kylie Jenner sported a silky anorak, black silk maxi dress, and illusion pumps. They both looked great.

Beth Ditto was pared-down in a classic denim jacket, velvet LBD, black tights, and ankle-strap pumps.

Show Review: Cushnie et Ochs Fall 2016

Carly Cushnie and Michelle Ochs were inspired by American film actress and dancer Louise Brooks: remarked as the emblematic figure of the flapper and also the woman responsible for making the blunt bob widely popular. The design duo also pulled influence from the circus: two disparate ideas that came together quite beautifully.

cushnie-et-ochs-fall-2016-3

Sultry and seductive is the name of Cushnie et Ochs’s game and this assortment was no exception. Ruffle-accented crop tops gave a flash of abs, cleverly-placed cutouts bared shoulders, thigh-high slits exposed legs, and sleek hair and red lips completed it all. Black leather opera gloves injected a sense of glamour and refinement.

Slinky slip dresses in shimmering sequins, embroidered velvet, flashy lamé, and seam-detailed silk sauntered down the runway: clearly giving a nod to Brooks. Classic stripes made an appearance in a tonal palette on a high-neck, ruffle-collared blouse perfect for the office, an illusion neckline LWD great for an engagement party, and billowing trousers slit up to the knee.

Though the collection was definitely a spectacle to behold, there was certainly nothing zany or circus-like about the designs at hand—it seems the brand is only getting more self-assured and certain of its ability to deliver pieces women want. The pair are expanding and growing their techniques and textures, without sacrificing their signature and very successful aesthetic. This felt like the perfect assemblage for the boss chicks and Hollywood sirens who believe in having it and flaunting it whenever their hearts desire to: brimming with red carpet shoo-ins and poise, with an elegant spirit.

Show Review: 5:31 Jerome Fall 2016

Show-Review-531-Jerome-Fall-2016-4

Walking into the presentation of 5:31 Jerome, one would not have thought they were at Fashion Week, but rather at a discotheque, ready to hit the streets for a night out with friends. In lieu of a runway, audience members gathered around a stage where the models stood, bequeathed in colorful frocks of fur and glitter that glistened in the light.Show-Review-531-Jerome-Fall-2016-2Show-Review-531-Jerome-Fall-2016-3

Glam from the moment one walked in, the collection was filled with sequins, paillettes, and feathers, both attached to the models and scattered throughout on the floor. Clothes glistened with studs, sequins and jewel tones, bright tones of blue and purple that shimmered from bedazzled pants to even floor-length fur coats.Show-Review-531-Jerome-Fall-2016-6Show-Review-531-Jerome-Fall-2016-10

The embroidery and embellishment, intricate and carefully detailed, spoke of fine nitpicking to give just the right amount of ‘edge’ to a look without the appearance of ‘costume’ or ‘gimmicky’. An infusion of crazy colors, teased hair, dramatic eyes and makeup complimented each look as the models posed throughout the duration of the show, interacting with each other and with viewers while keeping the energy high through dancing, teasing and playful gestures.Show-Review-531-Jerome-Fall-2016-7Show-Review-531-Jerome-Fall-2016-11

With a collection inspired by constellation and zodiac signs, styling and draping of the clothes eluded to the energy that flooded the entire space; an energy that is becoming known as part of the Jerome aesthetic.Show-Review-531-Jerome-Fall-2016-5Show-Review-531-Jerome-Fall-2016-8

Cool, sexy and glamorous all at once, 5:31 Jerome definitely stepped out of the box of conventionality for a fashion show, and instead provided the “South Bronx Glam!” (stated by designer Jerome La’Maar) that became relatable, innovative and yet, still mesmerizing to behold.Show-Review-531-Jerome-Fall-2016-9Show-Review-531-Jerome-Fall-2016-1

5:31 Jerome is definitely the brand to watch, with supporters such as Beyonce actively loving and embracing the brand. The details of embellishments all the way down to the furry heels give the Miu Miu vibe while enticing you to through your head back, kick off those shoes, and dance! The collection had an assortment of stand-out pieces that can be worn individually for the ‘cool chic’ effect or layered for those wanting to push the envelope. It’ll be amazing to see how the brand continues to blossom after such a unique and diverse presentation.

The first few days of New York Fashion Week were action packed, first with Kanye West’s Yeezy Season 3 collection, followed by Rihanna’s #FentyxPuma presentation for Puma!
Both events were packed to the gills with stars.
Take a look at who came to support our favorite Bad Gal:

Wale battled a crowd of selfie seekers wearing a Givenchy contrast collar coat, Saint Laurent biker zippered jeans, and blue sneakers. Love that coat!

Anna Wintour threw her support behind the Vogue Covergirl, blessing the proceedings in a jazzy trench coat and boots.

Naomi Campbell looked like a Barbie in a fur accented white coat. Show ’em how it’s done!

Sofia Richie worked all black with platinum locks and Fenty x Puma creepers.

Chris Rock went for inconspicuous in a utilitarian bubble coat.

Jeremy Scott kept it colorful on the front row.

Ne-Yo rocked green plaid with jeans.

Lastly, the woman of the hour grabbed a snap with Gigi and Bella Hadid, who modeled in the show.
Fun times, indeed!

Jame’s Life: Milly, 5:31 Jerome and Ty-Lite Launch Party with Ariane Davis, Shaun Ross, Ty Hunter and More!

If Day 1 of NYFW was a marathon, Day 2 definitely felt like a sprint! More like a sprint in the middle of August with minimal water…it was rough!

We started the day off pretty early, hitting up Pier 59 Studios to grab some video footage and photos from Sam and Pierre before show. At this point, I’m feeling great after my first cup of coffee and chocolate chip cookie from a cornerstone bakery! A few of you guys DM’ed me and asked about my outfit. Honestly, I find most of my finds in vintage shops!Jame-Jackson-NYFW-Day-2-Recap-3

Then we hit the Milly show, where a ton of style abounded both on and off the runway. Walking around filming the setup, I did get my photo snapped a few times so that was definitely fun! Jame-Jackson-NYFW-Day-2-Milly Jame-Jackson-NYFW-Day-2-Recap-Milly-Style-3Jame-Jackson-NYFW-Day-2-Recap-Milly-Style-1Jame-Jackson-NYFW-Day-2-Recap-Milly-Style-2The inspiration for this collection was definitely fur and color-inspired, and I saw that through the playful use of color and texture throughout the collection. I thoroughly enjoyed the presentation, and loved how the models encircled the space!Jame-Jackson-NYFW-Day-2-Milly-RunwayJame-Jackson-NYFW-Day-2-Milly-Runway-2Afterwards Esmesha and I ran into journalist and FBD reader Alicia Quarles, who was wearing Milly and looking fabulous. Quick selfie time!  However, we couldn’t stay too long; the 5:31 Jerome show was beginning in a few hours and my stomach was rumbling for something tasty! We grabbed a quick slice of Pizza and then trecked our way forward!  Jame-Jackson-NYFW-Day-2-Recap-Milly-Alicia-Quarles

The 5:31 Jerome show was definitely my favorite show thus far, just in the stylistic approach of the models to even how he presented his collection. Although we had to wait (it felt like) forever to get upstairs, security guards and long hauls of “I HAVE A TICKET” people kept company while waiting for the elevators to go upstairs. He didn’t conventionally show them coming down a catwalk or walking around, but rather had them stand behind a line and stand and pose. Jame-Jackson-NYFW-Day-2-Recap-531-Jerome-2Jame-Jackson-NYFW-Day-2-Recap-531-Jerome-3Jame-Jackson-NYFW-Day-2-Recap-531-JeromeOccasionally they would rotate out, bringing in new pieces to showcase. Jerome was there, and I was able to grab a couple of photos of him with his models, but also a sweet selfie to show ya’ll how much fun we were having!Jame-Jackson-NYFW-Day-2-Recap-531-Jerome-Jerome

After a long day of hauling to shows and surviving the New York Transit system (which has no service, by the way, and drives me insanely mad), we had one more stop to make which proved to be eventful. Invited to the Ty-Lite Launch Party, it was time to go out and get your selfie on! Jame-Jackson-NYFW-Day-2-Recap-Ty-Hunter-Launch-Party-2When we got there, the rooms were filled to capacity so thank goodness for heavy coats and gloves! After finally getting inside, I was able to grab some selfies with a few celebs, including Ty Hunter himself, Ariane from LHHATL and the model Shaun Ross. Jame-Jackson-NYFW-Day-2-Recap-Ty-Hunter-Launch-Party-Ty-HunterJame-Jackson-NYFW-Day-2-Recap-Ty-Hunter-Launch-Party-ArianeFashionistas were out SLAYING IT ZOWWWWN in fur coats and boats, so nobody came to play! Camera quality was definitely my factor of the night, but the party did give me “college basement” vibes, so I guess the photos are befitting.Jame-Jackson-NYFW-Day-2-Recap-Ty-Hunter-Launch-Party-Shaun-Ross

After being out of the house for over 12 hours straight, I collapsed when I got home. How people survive three and four shows a day plus after parties is beyond me. Final thoughts of Day 2 were simply, “Now this is fashion week.” Trust me, if you don’t absolutely and completely love what it is you do, you’ll never survive this week. But I’m signing out, grabbing some rest for another big day tomorrow! Smooches <3

Jame-Jackson-NYFW-Day-2-Recap-4

P.S. Shoutouts and thank you’s go out to Sam and Pierre who stood out in the blistering cold with Esmesha and me to grab footage and photos. Another shoutout to Ariane who saved me from complete darkness in the party by using her Ty-Lite so we could take our selfie. You’re the real MVP.

Show Review: Milly’s Fall 2016 Ready-to-Wear

Upon entering Pier 59 Studios, I was taken back by the chicness of the venue and the beauty of the set. The ceiling above the catwalk was (literally) dripping with blue flowing lights and the picturesque attendees just added to the overall sophistication of the show’s ambiance.

Aside from the 20 degree temps in these New York streets, Milly certainly brought the heat!

Founder and creative director Michelle Smith ‘s vision was consistent with previous Milly collections – she didn’t stray too far from the familiarity of minimal looks; however, this presentation paid homage to women everywhere who tend to cover themselves during these brutal winter months.

The designer’s goal was to create looks that combined both soft and sheer femininity with pieces that are ideal throughout the cooler months. Smith’s vision (simply known as “The Intimacy of Winter“) provided loads of sartorial inspiration which featured an impressive use of turtlenecks, two-piece swimsuits, bandeaus and even the timeless cocktail dress.

show-review-milly-fbd16

In addition to extensive layering and clean silhouettes, Smith also managed to incorporate a few “edgier” effects which included faux-fur trimmed handbags, statement sweaters and whimsical capes.

It was completely refreshing to see the models prance down the runway in frocks that the everyday woman could wear. I mean, each showcased piece serves as a firm foundation for any wardrobe and Milly did an amazing job of proving that winterizing your look can still be fun and unpredictable!

The use of dark yet bold florals also injected a bit of pizazz into the looks.

Honestly, I don’t know exactly what it was but I can actually see some of our street style favorites (think Julia Sarr-Jamois, Solange Knowles and Miranda Kerr) slaying in these looks! I believe it’s to mix of simplicity coupled with the genius styling that takes Milly’s fall collection to a completely different level.

Esmesha’s Life: New York Fashion Week 2016 featuring 5:31 Jerome Fall 2016, Alicia Quarles, Ty Hunter And More!

Happy Saturday everyone!

Well, I’m here in the Big Apple! Yep, finally made it out to good ‘ol New York! I wanted to give you a guys a quick glimpse into my first official day on Fashion Week which feature presentations from 5:31 Jerome, Milly and the epic Ty-Lite Launch Party.

I arrived at LaGuardia Airport around 4 PM on Thursday and deep within me there was a mix in excitement, anxiousness and even a little sprinkle of uncertainty but the combination of all these emotions just validated that my first trip to New York was long overdue!

IMG_20160211_082658

The first thing that hit me was the cold and the wind, lol. OMG! They both were just so disrespectful! I swear when I first stepped outside the airport I suitcase was tossed one way while my luggage flew in the opposite direction. 🙂 It was pure madness (and slightly hilarious). As a native Houstonian, winters under 50 degrees are practically unheard of but, Lord willing, I made it to my cab and I headed to Brooklyn.

Snapchat-3545802136737323956

After making it to Claire’s place, the settling in syndrome hit and so did my appetite. The rest of the evening was pretty laid back as well – I got to spend some time getting to know Jame while taking in a well-needed hour of Scandal (Yaaassss!).

So, my first official day of Fashion Week consisted of two shows: Milly and 5:31 Jerome. And, Milly was my inaugural New York Fashion Week presentation! The fashion house held its Fall/Winter 2016 show at Pier 59 Studios in Chelsea Piers and it was absolutely breathtaking. With an ultra-chic waterside vibe and an elegant appeal, Pier 59 Studios was the perfect balance for the modern sophistication of the show.

And, let me tell you, I took in EVERY moment! My initial thought was “Mama, I made it!” Lol!

IMAG0695

IMAG0699

The sights, the sounds, the ambiance… there was truly nothing like it. While on the scene I ran into journalist Alicia Quarles and even got a chance to connect with a group of fellow bloggers.

After the Milly whirlwind, Jame and I indulged in a quick lunch before sprinting over to 5:31 Jerome for the final show of the day.

The 5:31 Jerome presentation was held at The Standard, High Line and it was the complete opposite of the Milly show. As a definite designer to watch, Jerome LaMaar’s Fall/Winter 2016 was beyond epic! His show gave me a little bit of the “Solange feel” (via her legendary wedding pics) with models standing in one place with fierce stares and flirty eyes. And, the ‘fits were even better – there were sequins and sparkles galore!

IMAG0718

IMAG0725

I also adored his innovative use of layering simple pieces (such as a graphic tee) with over-the-top flamboyance (i.e.- blinged out statement necklaces, ombre furs and razor sharp faux nails). Hands down, this has been my fave show thus far…

To round out the evening, Jame and I attended (Beyonce’s stylist) Ty Hunter’s Ty Lite Launch Party on Orchard.

IMAG0731

This event was filled with tons of star power including model extraordinaire Shaun Ross, Love and Hip Hop Atlanta‘s Ariane Davis and I even spotted former Bomb Blogger/Fashion Bombshell of the Year Tiffany Battle of The Werk Place!

30151

Even grabbed a #selfie with the Man of the Hour!

IMG_20160213_085331

We literally stood outside in 20 degree weather while waiting to get in but it was all worth it. The overall vibe of the party oozed a youthful and fun feel. The music was bangin’, the drinks were flowing… And, the fashionistas were playing NO games! It was definitely a night to remember. 🙂

Overall, my first day of New York Fashion Week was pretty amazing. Very memorable. Can’t wait to see what day 2 has in store!

I’ll keep you guys posted! In the meantime, follow me on Snapchat for more of my #NYFW adventures at EsmeshaCampbell!
