Jame’s Life: Day 5 with Libertine, Blogger’s Event and Arts for Hearts Foundation including Linda Fargo, Jason Derulo and More!

Hey all! Much like Day 2, Day 5 proved to be long, tiring and quite exhaustive!

imageDespite the fact it was raining (and I had caught what felt like Hypothermia the night before), we got our started off running, heading into the city to grab shots with our photographer before parting ways to head to the shows. As you can see, I was playing NO games with the cold this time.imageUnfortunately the photoshoot fell through, so we just stuck around and waited out the weather until it was time for show. I was so excited to see Libertine, which is definitely now in my top 3 shows I’ve seen this week!imageimageThere were a ton of looks I enjoyed, mostly for the playfulness the clothes exuded on the runway. I love color and prints, so it was nice to see a designer who loves exploring outside of the box. Definitely someone I can see like Solange or Anna Del Russo wearing!imageOther people were dressed in similar attire, and for the first day all week, I opted for a more refined neutral look. Allow me to just say setting powder was my best friend on Day 5, because otherwise there is NO way my makeup would have lasted through all the snow.imageA huge surprise happened while I was at Libertine, however, that made it all worth it: As I was coming into the stage area, I spotted Linda Fargo! Right after the show ended, she invited me to sit next to her where we got to grab this pretty epic selfie. She’s so nice (as everyone always says) and was absolutely stunning to look at.imageNext, I was off to a special presentation I had been invited to as a representative for FBD and myself. I headed up to Sushisama West Willage to attend Blogger and the Brand, a networking event for those in media as well as bloggers looking to promote their work. While there, I met a few up-and-coming black bloggers and designers, and got to grab a few photos and video footage on style! image(Isn’t she giving you ALL the face?!)imageimageLast event for the night would take me back into the city, where I would get to attend the Gregorio Sanchez/ Pineda Covalin/Willfredo Gerardo Fall 2016 Women’s collection in sponsorship with Art Hearts Fashion. The venue was small and intimate, taking place into a church that had been converted with sultry lighting.imageimageAlthough I didn’t get to grab a photo, I accidentally knocked into Jason Derulo. I know, smooth Jame’. Nonetheless, he was super chill and was there to support his girlfriend, Daphne Joy, who was talking in one of the designer’s collections. She looked hot!imageimageWhile I enjoyed the collection and was excited about the experience, I was slightly disappointed by the lack of minority models in the collection, ESPECIALLY coming from designers who are Latino. While there were more than the mainstream NYFW design houses you may see, I wasn’t satisfied with the number. There’s always room for more.imageThen again, that’s why things such as our Fashion Show coming up excite me so much! It’s time we make changes occur, one person at a time.

Despite getting home after 1 am, I forced myself to stay up to work on extra posts and show reviews needing to go out. I was so tired typing, but I kept telling myself, Just one more post… Around 2:30 a.m., I collapsed from exhaustion as I had been running non-stop since 2:30 p.m. and then back up at 8!

Needless to say, I’m getting sad I only have one more day left of Fashion Week, but now’s not the time to slow down. Full speed ahead my loves, and I can’t wait to show you the photos from our Fashion Show!

Esmesha’s Life: Day Three of New York Fashion Week 2016 featuring The Jonathan Simkhai Fiasco, Treacherous Temps, Shiona Turini And More!

Whew! Happy Tuesday ya’ll!

With this whirlwind of show reviews, snow and endless cups of Starbucks, New York Fashion Week has proven to be quite the endurance race, lol! And, I’ve enjoyed every single minute.

My day three was a little light, as far as scheduling was concerned. I spent a majority of my morning catching up on Fashion Bomb posts while preserving my energy for the upcoming Jonathan Simkhai presentation.

esmeshas-life-nyfw-day-3-fbd1

Jame and I arrived to Milk Studios early Sunday evening as we made our way inside for check-in. We flashed our credentials, dropped our names and BOOM! — we were in dat thang (via standing room)! I was so excited! I had my camera ready, my Snapchat loaded and my Instagram was poppin’ but then the unexpected happened…

esmeshas-life-nyfw-day-3-fbd2

esmeshas-life-nyfw-day-3-fbd3

A tall, buff man simply walked to the middle of the room, raised his hands and proudly announced, “I’m sorry folks, but the Jonathan Simkhai show is at full capacity. But, we thank you for coming out – please exit to your right and watch your step.”

I was too heated!

My eyes started to dart back and forth across the room in hopes of processing the message I just received but even the slightest bit of understanding was shadowed by frustration. In my mind, I was like “SIR, I have walked through at least a mile of blistering winds, my fingers are STILL numb, I’m STILL cold and you mean to tell me I can’t get into the show?! This can’t be real.”

But (in reality), I remained calm. I turned to Jame and we calmly discussed our next move.

We decided to just hang out in the lobby, lol. I mean, this was our only show for the day. So, the “hanging out” began – we sifted through the crowds, snapped pictures of some impressive street style…

esmeshas-life-nyfw-day-3-fbd13

… And then we spotted blogger/beauty extraordinaires TK Wonder and Cipriana Quann (aka The Urban Bush Babes)! But, they were moving like the wind – literally in and out in a matter of seconds; however, Jame pursued them and got the shot of a lifetime.

After that, it was like the domino effect! Some of the best names in fashion started to emerge from the itsy bitsy elevator leading up to Simkhai’s set. We ran into supermodels Herieth Paul and Grace Bol, the lovely Justine Skye and even spotted street style faves June Ambrose and Taylor Tomasi Hill. There was also talk that Anna Wintour was in the building as well…

esmeshas-life-nyfw-day-3-fbd6

esmeshas-life-nyfw-day-3-fbd8

We hit the Fashion Week jackpot!

Our luck was just too good at this point. Eventually, we made our way up to the set to snap a few additional pics and, suddenly, I got my ENTIRE life. In an instant, Shiona Turini and Rajni Jacques emerged from behind a random corner (I’m guessing it was an exit from backstage, lol). I almost died.

esmeshas-life-nyfw-day-3-fbd7

After almost passing out from excitement and stumbling over my own words, this happened. I couldn’t believe that I was standing with one of the stylists behind Beyonce’s controversial “Formationmusic video as well as Racked.com’s Editor-at-Large – it was BEYOND surreal!

I definitely learned a lesson that day. Although things may not flow as smoothly as you’d like, there’s always an upside. And, even though Jame and I failed to sit in on Simkhai’s flawless showcase, we hit it big in meeting some of the most influential faces in the fashion world. We’re living testaments that the greatest successes can stem from small failures.

esmeshas-life-nyfw-day-3-fbd12

I’m convinced that life can’t get any better! 🙂

Show Review: Carolina Herrera Fall 2016 Ready-to-Wear

Carolina Herrera stands as one of the long-standing arbiters of classic sophistication and her Fall 2016 RTW collection this week embodied an elegant continuation of her brand’s heritage. Delightful 3D leather florets, sumptuous pleating in mint green and royal purple, and sexy interpretations of traditional masculine materials made for an inspirational runway show.

Top model Karlie Kloss opened and closed the show for the designer and rocked two stunning looks – one deep-V herringbone print dress with cutouts and another violet halter-neck gown with a ruched waistband. Gorgeous silk emphasized the female form in ruffles, delicate layers around the ankle, and tiny strands in an exquisite corset top.

First Lady Michelle Obama has worn a number of Carolina Herrera pieces over the past few years (see here, here, and here!) and based on FLOTUS’ previous picks, I’m selecting the blue and grey patterned coat with cream lapels, the floor-length floral embroidered iris gown, and the black-and-white sleeveless dress with black tulle trim for future presidential outings. What do you think?

Understated was the mantra on the runway. Models were barely accessorized, but looked every bit sensational in cut-out booties, square white-tipped sunglasses, and matching printed bags.

Who Wore It Better? Janelle Monae vs. Rachel McAdams in Cristiano Burani’s Fall 2015 Red Suit

Janelle Monae was the lady in red at the 2016 Billboard Power 100 Celebration in the same Cristiano Burani Fall 2015 suit Rachel McAdams originally sported back in July:

Janelle accented the pairing with a $656 Les Petits Joueurs Andy Mondrian Clutch and $953 Paul Andrew Ella Cage Sandals, while Rachel chose black patent, pointed-toe pumps.

The suit was anchored with black leather booties on the runway.
