Though the utilitarian denim fabric has played a key part in Riccardo Tisci’s designs for the house for several seasons, this year the house will expand to include sexy silhouettes like slim cut jeans with star motifs on the thigh, studded jackets, destroyed/distressed denim, and overdyed shirts.
Sounds exciting! Can’t wait to see which stars rocks it right.
Trayon Christian, who was wrongfully profiled at Barney’s New York after purchasing a Salvatore Ferragamo belt, has received a $45,000 settlement from New York City.
To review, the then 18-year-old visited the luxury retailer to purchase a $349 reversible black and white Ferragamo belt. But upon presenting his debit card, the student was told that his card didn’t appear real; he was later apprehended, handcuffed, and taken to the 19th precinct stationhouse before he was released.

Valentino has once again chosen to utilize traditional African hair styles without incorporating a majority of models of color. This time the brand has chosen to appropriate Bantu Knots, a traditionally African hairstyle, on the models in their Pre-Fall 2016 campaign.
African culture has become such a strong influence in the fashion industry without crediting the people and history that accompany it. Bantu Knots have a rich history and cultural significance for African Americans, but last week Vogue displayed their ignorance by crediting their inspiration to 90s era Icelandic singer, Björk.
Valentino may be one of the most obvious perpetrators, but many major brands and publications continue to display this insensitivity towards African culture. These brands need to listen to the voices calling for change or at the very least acknowledge that these aren’t simply hairstyles, they are cultural phenomena.
What do you think? Will you continue to support Valentino or abandon them in hopes they will finally change their ways?

It seems, yet again, that the fashion industry is going through some drastic changes. This morning, news broke that Grace Coddington, the woman whose held the title of Creative Director of American Vogue for nearly 30 years, is stepping down from the role effective immediately.
“After more than 25 years at American Vogue, Grace Coddington will assume the role of creative director at large and take on additional projects outside the magazine,” a spokesperson for American Vogue confirmed to a media outlet. “She will work on several Vogue fashion shoots throughout the year.”
Unlike many rumors circulating for Dior or Alexander McQueen, there are no tentative plans to fill the role of creative director at this moment.
Under the management of a new agency, Coddington will be permitted to work on external projects outside of just the magazine.
“I’m not running away from Vogue, because it has opened so many doors. But it will be nice to collaborate [with other brands] and nice to go out [and] give talks to people. It’s just another approach. I’m certainly not going into retirement. I don’t want to sit around.” Coddington told reporters at Business of Fashion.
While Coddington won many of our hearts initially in the 2009 documentary The September Issue, we can not wait to see what new projects she will take on and to see more sides to her artistic ability.
This fall, Phaidon will release a follow up to her memoir in 2002’s Grace: Thirty Years of Fashion at Vogue, which will document Coddington’s work from the past 15 years.
