On the Scene at the Native Son Awards in New York: Founder Emil Wilbekin, Don Lemon, Jordan E. Cooper, Jason Bolden, Ty Hunter & More

It’s officially Pride month and in celebration of Black gay and queer excellence, the legendary Emil Wilbekin presented the 2023 annual Native Son Awards show, hosted by Don Lemon and sponsored by Cadillac, and Gilead Sciences.

The organization that’s known for championing and empowering queer men of color, came together at the IAC building in New York City to honor a mass group of artists, influencers and tastemakers who are trailblazing their chosen industries.

We are honoring the mavericks in our community who have used their platforms to shine a light on our brilliance and beauty at a time when we are under attack at the intersection of our Blackness and our Queerness,” expressed Wilbekin.

The host of the evening and former CNN Journalist, Don Lemon made quite an entrance in an all white double-breasted suit. Perhaps there could not have been a better time to uplift and acknowledge Lemon who has served in the media industry for over 25+ years.

He spoke to the 520 anti-LGBTQ+ pieces of legislation introduced in state legislations across the country that target the gay community. In addition to ‘book bans’ that are often rooted in anti-blackness, transphobia, and queer phobia.

Lemon expressed,

There’s a consequential power we have when we tell our stories on our own terms.

And there are many people doing everything they can to silence us

But we will not allow them to succeed.

It does not matter how many bills they introduce.

We cannot and will not be legislated out of existence.

Honorees of the evening included the youngest Black playwright in Broadway history, Jordan E. Cooper who has reached critical acclaimed for his play, “Ain’t No Mo,” and P-Valley star, Nicco Annan.

Renowned filmmaker Patrick-Ian Polk who created the dynamic Black gay TV series, “Noah Arc,” was also recognized for his incredible contributions to television. Along with Jason Bolden and Adair Curtis, who are the stars of the hit Netflix TV series, “Styling Hollywood.”

Celebrity stylist, Ty Hunter who is the mastermind behind some of Beyonce’s most fierce looks, and Billy Porter’s avant-garde style, also attended the Native Son Awards show and exuded confidence and power with a leather-on-leather ensemble and bold accessories.

“The community is filled with creatives, a lot of passion, a lot of fight, a lot of love, it’s filled with talented individuals that for a very long time have had to fight for their acceptance, and their freedom,” said Corey, the Leader of the Iconic International house of St. Laurent. “Many people don’t see a lot of things LGBTQ so therefore we have to continue to fight for our rights to be seen, heard and respected.”

Bolden and Curtis weren’t the only dynamic duo, as filmmakers Elegance Bratton and Chester Algernal Gordon who created “The Inspection” featuring Gabrielle Union, and Jeremy Pope also made a sartorial debut in Prada and Esenshel.

The event which had over 300 attendees was captivating, uplifting and unforgettable. Founder Emil Wilbekin explained,

“Native Son, the movement community and platform was built for a time like this. Tonight  — during Pride Month and on the eve of Juneteenth, we show our resilience and resistance through unapologetic representation.”

On the Scene at Pharrell Wiliams Louis Vuitton Spring ’24 Collection Debut in Paris: Beyonce & Jay-Z, Rihanna & ASAP Rocky, Kim Kardashian, Zendaya & More

A gold runway on the historical Pont Neuf bridge in Paris with models strutting in a variety of timeless checkered and digitalized “damoflage” motif looks painted the picture of Pharrell Williams official Louis Vuitton menswear collection that debuted on Tuesday evening.

The Virginia Beach native and 13 Grammy award winning artist Pharrell Williams shone brightly during his show and was quite a sight to behold. Since being inducted into the Louis Vuitton Creative Designer role in February following the 2021 demise of fashion designer Virgil Abloh, Williams has quickly transcended into a fashion tycoon.

Last week, with the release of his first campaign image featuring Rihanna at the Maison, Pharrell announced that he would be unveiling his first collection as Louis Vuitton’s menswear Creative Director.

RiRi, who is noticeably expecting her second child, was dripped in LV apparel and can be seen holding multiple LV tote bags in a variety of different colors.

Of course Pharrell’s highly anticipated show was a star-studded one with celebs making quite a sartorial entrance. Jay-Z and Beyonce arrived to the show and sat front row in their spectacular LV ensembles, with Bey wearing a bright yellow silk suit and kimono. Later in the evening during the after party, Jay-Z performed in front of a zealous crowd.

Rihanna & beau A$AP Rocky opted for matching denim-on-denim looks with embellished beanies, while Kim Kardashian took part in the pixelated checkered print trend that we saw on models throughout the night.

Also in attendance included Megan Thee Stallion, the legendary Naomi Campbell, Louis Vuitton ambassador Zendaya, and Tyler the Creator whom Pharrell has been a source of inspiration for.

Not to mention Savannah James and Mielle Organics CEO and founder Monique Rodriguez, who attended in their chic LV looks and embodied effortless beauty and charm.

The man of the hour who’s always staying ahead of the curve, took inspiration from his own closet and from LV’s traditional checkered monogram print and created an unprecedented collection.

From a variation of camo-colored pixilated suits, known as “damoflage,” to colorful checkered bomber jackets paired with shorts and styled with loafers and combat boots, LV’s men’s collection felt modern and innovative, and unleashed a new set of rules.

Pharrell also has taken LV’s most beloved canvas bags like The Speedy and recreated the infamous bag with new colorways, nodding to the counterfeit bags sold in New York on Canal Street.

“I wanted to take something I felt would be unisex and just make a great bag for humans,” expressed Williams in a press release. “It is an everyday icon conceived for every walk of life.”

There’s no doubt that Pharrell Williams is a change-maker and he took so many calculated risks with his fantastical creations during his Louis Vuitton menswear debut.

Following his phenomenal show, he was greeted with a standing ovation that was well-deserved and perhaps a glimpse of his promising future with the French fashion house.

Fashion Bomb Couple: Blue Face Wore a Full Ian Alexander Set with Nike Air Force 1’s with Chrisean Rock in Miami

The couple who’s know for being on & off and has had a few public quarrels in the past, looked to be in high spirits while out & about in Miami.

Although we know their relationship has been toxic and unhealthy at moments, the two of them are expecting their first child together, so for the sake the baby, we’re happy to see they’re back on good terms.

The ‘Thotiana’ rapper who already has two children from his previous relationship with Jaidyn Alexis, was initially second-guessing whether Chrisean’s baby was his or not.

However last week, 23-year old Chrisean Rock put those inquiries to rest with a DNA test that revealed in fact he is the father.

Now that he has hardcore proof based on the DNA test, this could explain the change in his demeanor.

The Los Angeles rapper stepped out in Miami wearing a turquoise and white Ian Alexander set that had patches on his jacket and a modern design on his matching jeans. He opted for white Air-force 1’s and a Burberry belt to go with his gold layered diamond chains.

As Chrisean Rock held Blue’s hand, she noticeably showed off her adorable baby bump in a white crop tank top and a dark denim maxi skirt paired with sneakers to support her back.

Despite their tumultuous relationship, we hope that they find an amicable way to co-parent in a healthy and conducive way. We’re rooting for Chrisean and are excited to see what’s to come!

Diddy Wore a Burberry Tank Top and JT gave Spongebob Bikini Vibes on the Music Video Set of ‘Act Bad’

It looks like we have another summer anthem with Diddy’s latest song, “Act Bad” featuring City Girls and Fabulous.

The song which officially releases 3-weeks ago, now has a music video coming out with the team of 4 and of course they looked summer ready.

Has anyone else noticed how beneficial Diddy and Yung Miami’s relationship is? Talk about having a unison that you can monetize on.

From the ‘Caresha Please’ show, to a series of songs recently released by the duo, Yung Miami and Diddy are ‘acting bad’ straight to the bank.

Diddy wore a birch brown $623 Burberry jersey tank top that was finished with an athletic striped rib-knit trim and had Burberry’s signature check motif. Yung Miami on the other hand kept things simple with a baby blue two-piece set and iced out diamonds.

JT wore a $360 yellow Spongebob GCDS bikini that had crochet cups and was embroidered with 3D elements. She layered her bikini with a yellow and white Moto style jacket and we absolutely loved this bright hue color on her gorgeous skin complexion.

Kim Kardashian Wore a White Crop Top and Blue Sweatpants with Travis Scott Air Jordan 1’s to Saint West Basketball game in L.A.

After just celebrating North West’s birthday, Kim Kardashian was spotted attending her oldest son Saint West basketball game in L.A. and she took the athleisure route and opted for a simple white crop tank and blue sweatpants.

Kanye West was also in the building to support and cheer his mini-me on at Mamba Academy in Thousands Oak. Noticeably absent was his wife Bianca Censori who we saw holding hands with North this past week at Ye’s 46th Birthday bash.

Kim looked very downtown chic with her blue, white and black Travis Scott Air Jordan 1 High SP “Fragment” sneakers that retail for $1,995. We love the iconic silhouette and oversized backwards-facing Swoosh on the lateral side which offered a modern twist to the traditional Air Jordans we all love.

Sustainability in Jewelry: How Brands Are Making a Difference

Diamond engagement rings have always been chosen as the ideal sign of love and devotion. Jewelry may seem like an unlikely place to look for sustainable alternatives, but at a time when environmental and ethical issues are at the forefront of our thoughts, a growing number of consumers are looking for ethically made jewelry. Because of this, there is an increasing trend within the jewelry business to prioritize sustainability. Let’s look at the measures jewelry companies have taken to make ethically sourced diamond rings for engagements.

  1. Ethical Sourcing: Promoting Responsible Mining Practices

Ethical sourcing strategies are becoming more popular among jewelry companies as a means to promote long-term sustainability. Environmental damage and human rights violations have long been linked to the conventional diamond mining process. Brands, however, are increasingly concentrating on finding sources of diamonds that are both ethical and conflict-free. Diamonds from these vendors are guaranteed to come from ethical mines that don’t contribute to or harm the environment or engage in illicit activities. Brands that place a premium on ethical sourcing make every effort to guarantee that the glimmer of diamonds in engagement rings does not come at the price of the environment or local people.

  1. Recycled Precious Metals: Reducing the Environmental Footprint

Sustainable jewelry businesses are increasingly promoting the use of recycled precious metals in addition to ethical sourcing. Gold and other precious metal mining destroys habitats and releases harmful compounds into ecosystems, both of which have serious environmental repercussions. Brands may lessen their environmental impact by employing recycled metals instead of new mining. Metals may be recycled in a number of different ways, such as by reusing metal from scrap or by making new jewelry out of old metal. Diamond engagement rings made with recycled metals capture the spirit of the occasion while also showing support for the conservation of natural resources.

  1. Lab-Grown Diamonds: Sustainable Alternatives to Mined Diamonds

Furthermore, many jewelry companies see lab-grown diamonds as a more environmentally friendly substitute to mined diamonds. Diamonds developed in a lab are identical to those mined from the ground in terms of their chemical and physical qualities, but they are produced in a laboratory. As a result, less land is disturbed and less water is polluted during the diamond mining process. The openness and traceability of lab-grown diamonds gives buyers peace of mind about the stones’ origin. Brands are allowing customers to make sustainable choices by providing lab-grown diamonds as an alternative for engagement rings without sacrificing the beauty or importance of the gemstone.

  1. Sustainable Production: Minimizing Waste and Environmental Impact

Sustainable jewelry companies are paying attention to both their raw materials and their manufacturing techniques. They make an effort to recycle and compost as much as possible. To lessen their impact on the environment, businesses can package their products in recyclable or biodegradable materials. Some companies are also adopting innovative manufacturing techniques that reduce waste and make better use of materials and energy. These companies are at the forefront of efforts to lessen the jewelry industry’s negative effect on the environment by placing a premium on sustainable manufacturing practices.

Conclusion

Sustainable diamond engagement rings are in high demand, and jewelry companies are responding to this shift in customer priorities. These companies are making a difference by emphasizing ethical sourcing, recycling materials, providing lab-grown diamonds, and applying sustainable manufacturing processes. They are reinventing luxury by demonstrating that aesthetic excellence and social and environmental consciousness can coexist.

If you are in the market for a diamond engagement ring, you may want to look into eco-friendly jewelry options the next time you go shopping. Your devotion to creating a better, more sustainable planet may be a representation of your love as well.
