I think it’s been on all of our minds, so I’ll be the one to say it…Keke Palmer has been SLAYINNGGGGGGG as of late. And we ain’t mad at her.

Now, don’t get us wrong. Keke Palmer has never dressed horribly. However, over the past few years in particular, we have noticed the actress/singer stepping her wardrobe game up to include more shape-accentuating gowns, trendy casual wear, and very in-the-moment clothing and style options.
 
Nowadays, you’ll catch the starlette in designer threads such as Galia Lahav, Lethicia Bronstein, Alina Cirstea, Rebecca Minkoff, House of CB, and more! I don’t know about you, but it’s so refreshing to see her mix a variety of designer names, even one’s you may not necessarily recognize at first.

This beauty just continues to get better with time, cultivating a style aesthetic that’s truly becoming her own! Remember when she won our Most Improved Fashionista Award last year? After MAC Cosmetics posted a close up profile picture of model Aamito Lagum’s purple painted lips on Instagram, there was an immediate racist backlash. The comment section was filled with derogatory remarks statements about the size and shape of her lips (read the story here).

“It was so shocking that on a visible site like MAC’s Instagram, people were spewing that level of hate. I think this only affirms the idea that fashion and beauty companies need to stand for a wider and more diverse show of beauty,” Lagum told The New York Times. 

MAC’s response was immediate. They contacted Instagram and flagged the comments in order to get them removed. They followed up the next day with an Instagram post of the saying “All ages, all races, all sexes.”

Lagum’s makeup was from the Ohne Titel show and the designers behind the show also showed her their support. Alexa Adams and Flora Gil posted a backstage image of the model that garnered more likes than anything else they’ve posted thus far.

Lagum also took to Instagram to respond to the haters with a repost of the original photo and caption “My lips giving you sleepless nights”. She also started the hashtag #PrettyLipsPeriod on a digital reimaging of her purple pout encouraging women to post their own lips. There are now almost 3,000 posts under the hashtag.

This is only another example of how imperative it is to have diversity in the fashion industry. Photos like this should not generate this negative dialogue, but the industry’s support for Lagum is heartening. More and more designers are fighting for diversity including Zac Posen who’s latest runway was almost exclusively models of color. Hopefully this trend will continue!

The beauty business might just a family affair when it comes to the Kardashian Klan. While Kylie has her lipstick and nail polish lines, Kendall Jenner is expanding her role as the face of Estée Lauder to include creating an eye shadow palette.

Mother of Pearl largely dealt with the tracksuit in a 26-piece presentation, playing with ruffles and geometric pleating while Christopher Raeburn gave the public true sustainability in fashion with his outerwear made of upcycled military uniforms. Emilio de la Morena was all sheers through a collection of lace barely-there ensembles fit for the boudoir or a cocktail party.

Lianne La Havas gave a black strapless lace gown added flair with a statement-making necklace.

Cheryl Fernandez-Versini served up princess chic in a yellow lacy strapless dress, diamond choker, and strappy silver sandals.

Izzy Bizu couldn’t be missed in an orange netted gown. Hot!

Cutie Ella Eyre was quite covered in a long-sleeve velvet gown.

Fleur East tried on the sheer dress trend for size in a long-sleeve embellished piece with double slits.

Marvin Humes donned Saint Laurent for the evening. He’s so good-looking: it’s almost nonsensical!
