In a world brimming with red carpet events and Instagram snaps, one often forgets that simplicity will always be one of the easiest ways to look polished and chic. Tomas Maier demonstrated the power of the pared-down ensemble with his Fall collection for Bottega Veneta: built on a foundation of cool and classic pieces.
The opening looks were markedly sensible and sometimes felt cautious—steeped in gravity and poise. Function was on high with expertly-tailored yet approachable suiting, wearable outerwear that would blend seamlessly from work to play, and splashy yet timeless prints like plaid and leopard.
That earlier caution gave way to space dye knit paired with plaid, a short turquoise windowpane trench, and a cozy topper with hand-crafted and folksy embroidery—upping the craftsmanship and whimsy quotient.
Maier made a few missteps that strayed from the collection’s strong and effective aim, but the really excellent and skilled pieces were the main takeaways here. And they were definite gems: looks with an absence of complication and candor that transcended the banal and ordinary.
What do you think of Bottega Veneta’s Fall collection?
This week has been MAJOR prep for the Oscars, but before then, we had the 2016 Independent Film Spirit Awards where style stars from all over came out to be recognized for their work in independent films. Let’s check out some of the best looks of the night:

Rooney Mara went for an all-black ensemble, hitting the carpet in a black Hugo Boss dress and Brian Atwood heels.Aisha Tyler went for natural-in-nude with a nudish pink textured dress, paired with nude heels and a nude with gold accents clutch. I love the outfit, but maybe a bold lip or hair down would have taken this look to the next level?
Actress Mya Taylor looked cute in a cream gown with silver embellishments throughout. Congrats to her for making history as the first transgender actress to win a major film award!
Brie Larson showed out in a Chanel dress and silver open-toed Casadei heels. This look is so refreshing to me, but I would have preferred the hemline falls at a different length. What do you think?Idris Elba gave us that London-gentleman charm in a grey tailored suit, shades and brown loafers. Congratulations on his win as Best Supporting Male Actor!
The gorgeous Freida Pinto rocked a one-shoulder dress by Bibhu Mohapatra. The dress featured a floral and black top while the bottom was a beautifl shade of blue. Pair it with some yellow/white pumps, and Ms. Pinto looked fab!
Nikki Reed went for a floor-length gown by Etro, paired with Brian Atwood heels (not seen). I love the slit in the front that adds a little bit of sexy to an otherwise fully-covered look. What do you think of the look? Hot or hmm?
Actress and comedian Retta was the lady in red rocking a red jumpsuit with a gold-plated belt, red and gold Louis Vuitton clutch, and opting for leopard flats. Cute!

Cuties Zac Posen and Naomi Campbell came stylishly, with Zac in an olive-tailored suit with burgundy accents. Queen Campbell showed out in a simplistic black blazer, offset with a ombre-sheared coat. Love!

Parents to be Chrissy Teigen and John Legend looked awesome as usual, with Chrissy in a red Michael Kors gown with an attached cape and plunging neckline. John went his usual tailored-tuxedo route in a white button-down and black textured blazer; but hey, if it ain’t broke why fix it?
