Today I’d like to introduce you to Michael Maven, a line of contemporary separates established in 2013 by South African siblings Natasha, Nadia, and Mihkael Michael.
Their Fall 2016 collection is all about avant garde, unexpected takes on the traditional. Think coats with shoulder cut outs, LBDs with fuzzy straps, cocktails with button details, and off the shoulder frocks with flute like sleeves.
Everyone from Micah Gianelli to Zendaya to Kendall and Kylie Jenner have been spied in Maven’s wares.
The line is sexy, sophisticated, and unquestionably chic.
Despite what society tells us, we know that beauty is more than just about your facial features. It encompasses everything about you, and we want to continue to promote women (and men) who are changing the perception of beauty in this industry. Thus today, we give you plus-size model Precious Lee. Precious has recently garnered a lot of publicity in the modeling world, solidifying a campaign with Lane Bryant as one of their newest additions to their plus-size models featured in their ad pages.
Not only is she putting on for women of color, but she’s also representing for other plus-size models trying to break into this industry! Personally, I love how she’s comfortable in her skin, and flaunts her curvaceous size 14 frame in a way that is sexy yet still sophisticated. She doesn’t deny the gifts she’s been endowed, and that’s a confidence we should all carry! With beautiful dewy mahogany skin, arched brows, and pouty sultry looks, her beauty aesthetic is definitely one that’s unique and old Hollywood resounding. At the core, her body confidence and push to change what a ‘model’ is or what ‘beautiful’ skin types are prove to other women that they are beautiful no matter what size. We love women who encourage others to pursue their dreams, despite whatever society tells you is ‘beautiful’ or not! All of you are beautiful and have the potential to pursue whatever you want! She’s absolutely stunning.
So that’s Precious Lee, and she’s our Beauty Crush Wednesdays. Is she yours?
Jennifer Lopez was red hot while making an appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers in a recently-debuted Cushnie et Ochs Fall 2016 Red Open Shoulder Ruffle Top and Red High Waist Trousers:
Her top was paired with high-waist double slit trousers, while her pants were accented with a crisscross cutout halter top on the runway.
Today’s Bomb Product comes courtesy of Layo G, a brand created by Nigerian Bombshell Layo Gbadamosi. The brand’s flared collar jacket is a signature piece for Spring; Layo recently returned to Nigeria to shoot her signature piece on Olajumoke, a former breadseller turned model sensation.
If you haven’t heard of Olajumoke, here’s the deal: She was discovered when she accidentally walked through photographer TY Bello’s street shoot with musician Tinie Tempah. When TY Bello posted the photobombed image to her Instagram page, a search began to find the anonymous bread-seller. Days later, Olajumoke was found and immediately secured a modeling contract with Few Models. The working wife and mother quickly became a household name and one of Nigeria’s most sought after models.
About the shoot, Layo said, “Olajumoke’s journey along with the fact that she has handled this new sudden rush of fame with such grace is remarkable. It is clear that she wants to be the best model she can be, a determination that came through loud and clear during our time with her for the photoshoot. From the breadseller hustling every day, to the CEO making waves, we as women are powerful in our own special way and Olajumoke is a perfect example of that.”
Olojumoke is working that jacket! And her story and Layo G’s devotion to her make me love the brand even more!
The $145 jacket is now available for pre-order. Get it here.
What do you think of the piece and of Olajumoke’s story?

We’ve made it to the peak of another glorious week (and it feels so good)!
So, to celebrate this overflow of positive vibes, let’s get into today’s Bomb Blogger feature highlighting the lovely Larissa Bruin of From Hats to Heels.
Larissa is a fashionista that I’ve followed for quite some time. Initially, I was drawn to her impeccable layering techniques but, as her style started to transform, this young woman’s undeniable talent started to shine through.
With her site From Hats to Heels in full bloom, this psychologist turned stylist “uses her blog to radiate not only her love for fashion & beauty, but moreover the power of self-confidence and sincerity“. She also discusses a wide variety of topics including beauty tips, travel adventures and sources of personal inspiration.
Larissa’s fearlessness is my favorite style quality. In addition to her creative combinations, she encompasses the vision to make any outfit great! Whether she’s rocking one of her many statement faux furs or an eye-catching pair of baby blue culottes, this style maven is an expert when it comes to making her looks pop. (And, I’m here for everything!)
Slay on, hun!

Inclusion will continue to be an important topic for the fashion industry and frankly most industries. The results are in and it looks like this NYFW Fall 2016 was the most inclusive to date, with 31.9% of collections featuring models of color. An improvement over Spring 2016, runways this season reflected a broad range of ethnicities, complexions, hair textures, and sizes. We are looking forward to seeing further change. (Teen Vogue)
In the age of the polymath, why should editors be exempt from these multi-faceted careers? Grace Coddington is up next to bat with a new perfume designed in collaboration with Comme Des Garcons. Described as a blend of “peach blossom, white musk, and amber crystal–spiked Moroccan rose absolute,” the perfume comes in a Fabien Baron–designed bottle with a custom cat-shaped cap (very Grace!) and will hit fragrance counters on April 19. Given the power that comes with being an established European brand, our eyes are always open for new emerging labels that are looking to disrupt the industry. Forbes recently profiled “10 Startups Redefining Italian Fashion.” My favorites include Les Petit Jouers’ handbags embellished with LEGO and Oscar Tiye’s celebrity obsessed (Gigi Hadid, Eva Longoria, Camila Alves, Gabrielle Union, Miranda Kerr…need I say more) winged Malikah heels. (Forbes)
Print publishing has taken a hit with the rise of online sites, but advertising matters to all media, especially print media. Vogue claimed the top spot with most ad pages in March 2016 for fashion magazines. Why does it matter? Apparently, Condé Nast charges a higher premium on its advertising pages than its competitors, Time Inc. and Hearst. Looks like Vogue is only getting stronger! (WWD)
What do you think about today’s Fashion Bomb Breakdown?
We’re always ready to switch it up here at FashionBombDaily, so we’re starting off with a new spin on our Fab List. This week, we’re covering 25 times celebrities rocked a particular trend, and with Spring around the way, we’re tackling sheer dresses! The sheer dress trend isn’t anything TOO new to the scene, but we’ve recently been seeing designers tackle the looks again on the runway and celebrities wearing the trend in more ways than one.
Now more than ever, we’re seeing that the ‘sheer’ trend can come in all cuts, shapes, sizes, and forms! Plus, you can rock a sheer gown without feeling overexposed.
Finding a balance between sex-appeal and covering up, brands such as Naeem Khan, Alexander McQueen, and Jonathan Simkhai are showing us all the varieties that exist with this trend, and we’ve been loving them all!
Whether in the arms, legs, or just peeks here and then, ‘sheer’ attire is now not only the sparkly gown route (although nobody ever said no to a sparkly gown). I feel it’s an accessible trend for all now, and nobody has to feel self-conscious!
Check out our gallery on 25 times celebrities have rocked the trend, whether on the red carpet or over the years!
Also, we’re reintroducing our How Do You Wear It series, where YOU get to participate by sharing with us how you rock a trend! Stay tuned for our call-out on IG!
