Shoulder cleavage is a ‘thing’ for the spring.  The 70’s inspired off the shoulder top will be a must-have for this seasons wardrobe.  Today’s Bomb Product of the Day features Pixie Market’s $45 Light Blue Crop Off the Shoulder Top:

The pale blue, cotton blend shirt has elastic around the top allowing it to expand past the shoulders.

Great for a casual brunch or daytime look.  To complete the 70’s feel, I’d rock this top with a pair of wide leg pants.

The style was spied on stars like Olivia Palermo and more recently, Kendall Jenner.

Our girl Kerry Washington was on hand for the New York screening of Confirmation while rocking a Fall 2016 Brandon Maxwell Off-the-Shoulder Swing Dress, a top-knot and classic black pumps,

The elegant piece features a relaxed fit and a flowy silhouette. It’s almost reminiscent of a cape, no?

As far as makeup goes, the actress kept her look natural and fresh.

Britain’s Got Talent judge and singer Alesha Dixon, hit up the This Morning show.  While chatting it up and dispelling rumors about joining X Factor, she looked cool as can be while wearing a cream colored turtleneck and a $556 The Kooples Leather Dress.

Emphasizing a modern, rock and roll rebel look, this leather dress features buckled straps at the shoulders and back and a pleated mini skirt.

In spite of the texture being typically weighty and thick, Alesha’s dress looks like it offers ease of movement and and elevates her edgy side.

Although it’s quite the splurge, and you’re bound to find less expensive alternatives, I’m feeling it!  She looks like a 90’s video daydream, especially with cool sunglasses and a trendy pair of peep-toe booties.  Well, if you’re feeling her look, you can cop the dress here.

GapKids introduced their latest campaign for the Ellen DeGeneres kids clothing line on Friday April 1st. Since the release, the advertisement has come under harsh criticism via social media because some believe the photo has a racial undertone.

The photo features four young girls standing in a row. The girls in the middle ignite controversy because of how they’re posed. The white model is positioned with her elbow on the black models head. The caption reads, “Meet the kids who are proving that girls can do anything.”  Social Media was not impressed with the new campaign and sounded off:

The mega retailer has a history of inclusion when it comes to their advertising strategies. They’ve embraced diversity by using people of color, different religions, disabilities and sexual orientations in their campaigns. Some argue the idea that The Gap’s history of promoting the protected classes should be an indication that the advertisement is not racially motivated. In fact, Gap supporters refute racial claims by presenting a similar ad from a campaign a few years back. In that ad, a black girl poses with her elbow on a white girl’s head.

The Gap has since removed the ad from their website and issued an apology.

“As a brand with a proud 46 year history of championing diversity and inclusivity, we appreciate the conversation that has taken place and are sorry to anyone we’ve offended,” said Gap spokeswoman Debbie Felix in a statement to Fortune.

The climate of our society is very sensitive when it comes to race. The perception of this ad will be different for everyone who sees it. The question is, if we know The Gap to be a supportive and inclusive brand, are people being to sensitive or can we chalk this up to poor judgment on the brands part? What do you think?

Alek Wek was spotted at the 7th Annual Women in the World Summit VIP Dinner alongside designer Rachel Roy while uplifting a $498 Spring 2016 Diane von Furstenberg Pink and Midnight Nieves Zen Floral A-Line Dress.

The spring-ready piece was showcased on the runway with a brown leather belt and neutral strappy sandals.

Wek’s feminine number also features a pleated bodice, a straight hem, and a spread collar. Luckily, it’s still up for grabs here!

 

The model even struck a quick pose with Nigerian activist Obiageli Ezekwesili!

Love the dress! But, the belt is too heavy for this design.

 Before a lot of female entertainers, DJs and the likes of Nicki Minaj, Rihanna or even Queen Bey, Lil Kim was making serious sartorial statements for women in the hip hop industry. Though controversial and typically titillating, there’s no denying that Kimberly Denise Jones carved out a niche as a 90’s era fashion and style icon, trendsetting her way via avant-garde dressing, skin tight bustiers, and (the infamous) pasty-affirmation for every woman out there.
Lil’ Kim not only pushed the boundaries of what fashion was, but also made it accessible and influential to the general population by way of her luxury designer laden, statement-making lyrics. Remember when she said:

YA’LL ROCK VERSACE AND YA’LL WENT OUT AND BOUGHT IT/ I ROCK VERSACE AND YA’LL KNOW I AIN’T PAY FOR IT!

Yeah…Lil’ Kim was one of the original rap stars, known for ostentatiously citing designer labels in songs.

Her style is still seen in the outfits of some of Hip-Hop and Pop’s most notable artists, including:

Rihanna who has definitely cited Lil’ Kim as a style and fashion icon and inspiration.

 
Miley Cyrus who tried out Kim’s infamous pasty/sequin look from the 1999 VMAs.

And Nicki Minaj, whose Harajuku Barbie aesthetic was undoubtedly inspired by Kim.

Outside of performances and appearances, celebrities have of course given their own ode to Kim during holidays, including Karrueche who rocked her look for Halloween.

Though racy and oft criticized, Lil Kim showed women of the 90’s and beyond that it was ok to embrace their sexuality and flaunt their form even in the most shocking of ways. Kim made it ok to be totally unapologetic when it came to sensual style expression.

I love seeing Black businesses thrive, and I’ve definitely been on a Black Girls Rock high since Claire and I went to the awards last week. So what better product to display for our Bomb Product than a business that’s blending the two worlds together?

Today, we’ve got HeyBlackGirl’s ”Black Girls On Another Level’ T Shirt:HeyBlackGirl is actually a brand I discovered way back when on Twitter, and when they dropped their T-shirts with admirable quotes from some of the women at Black Girls Rock! I couldn’t help but tell myself I had to feature them!If you’ve never heard of HeyBlackGirl, I’m not sure where you’ve been. They’re a movement and shop that’s geared toward loving and learning to love being a Black woman. Promoting sisterhood, self love and positivity, they offer a wide variety of T-shirts and other paraphernalia that offers inspirational quotes, ideas and mantras for every sista’ out there!Aside from Rihanna’s “All Girls Rock Black girls…we just on another level” T-shirt, they also have crop tops with the beautiful words of Beverly Bond (the founder of Black Girls Rock!) and Amandla Stenberg, who had my favorite quote of the night by far.

Of course, they also offer other T-shirts, including their infamous one with the name of the brand and mantra that’s put them on the map. My favorite thing about this brand is their tireless effort to push and support our community. We all possess this magic about us, but rocking it on a T-shirt just amps it even more!

Prices vary, but T-shirts, crop tops, racer tanks and long sleeves all run the range from $15-30, so they are highly inexpensive!
