Tamar Braxton is no new face or name to most people. Aside from coming from a prominent music family and getting her early start in the music industry alongside her sisters, Tamar Braxton has branched out to do her own thing. As we’ve seen her grow over the years and take on the new roles of wife and mother, we’ve always had the opportunity to watch her style evolve. We definitely had to take a look!While she’s  been in the public eye recently over the rumored reasons of her departure from The Real, Tamar’s been on our style radar for quite some time. Previously, one would see Braxton in bright, ostentatious colors or just ill fitting clothes. Plus, poorly made makeup choices did not work in favor of her image.A few years ago, we finally began to see Braxton blossom into her fashion-savvy side, mostly from catching her latest wares on the hit T.V. show, The Real.Aside from grabbing a new hair and makeup artist, she also began sporting the hottest designer numbers like Alexander McQueen, Givenchy, Roberto Cavalli and more that helped forge her personal style. 

 

Nowadays, you’ll catch Tamar snatched on the red carpets, wearing figure-flattering dresses, top designer labels and sporting the latest trends even on simple date nights.

#BlackGirlMagic remains in full effect! In case you haven’t heard, the Nigerian doll brand Queens of Africa is coming to the United States! Founded by Taofick Okoya in 2007, the doll range depicts the various African ethnicities, skin tones, and even the different African hairstyles that make the motherland as vast and as rich as it is.

With the motto as “Empowering the African girl child”, the mission of Queens of Africa and Okoya is to promote and foster positive self-esteem in young black girls, who can invariably see themselves represented through these dolls. This summer, Okoya and his dolls are going on ‘tour’, jetsetting to New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, Washington, D.C., and Houston to meet American supporters and expand the promotion of the brand and what it stands for.

Taofick talk the talk, and also walks the walk. Not only does he work to create a brand that empowers young women through the dolls, but Taofick also empowers stay-at-home moms, employing them with jobs such as braiding the dolls’ hair and creating the outfits that they wear.

Regarding the appearance of the dolls, he shared with Forbes, “We’ve made the lips fuller, and the nose rounder. We also offer different hair textures, ranging from wavy to short and curly, as well as coarse hair. We’ve given the body a bit more curves, and we’re planning on doing a fuller butt in the near future. It’s a way of showing also that “African” isn’t just one look. We celebrate both skinny and curvaceous women.”

Although the doll culture is still something considered to be for the privileged and upper-class in various parts of Nigeria, Okoya has continued to remain steadfast and tenacious, this time setting his views on the American market. “The US market is structured in a more efficient manner, which allows us to reach more people. In Nigeria, apart from the more high-brow stores such as Shoprite and The Game Store, it’s difficult to be present across multiple stores across several states. The US has that distribution network however, and that network is power.”

Whatever the American consensus, we at FashionBombDaily ALWAYS love 1) supporting Black owned businesses, and 2) supporting things that empower the self-love of Black girls out there. On Wednesday, June 1st, Pharrell Williams hosted the grand opening for the new G-Star RAW 5th ave location.  The store was packed wall to wall with denim enthusiasts ready to pounce on their new collection.  G-Star RAW features tons of innovative designs that are not like your basic denim:

 

The Pouch gives a whole new spin to the idea of maintenance wear.  The 5 pocket denim jeans are designed with a pouch in the front where you’d typically find a zipper.  One of the main functions of the Pouch is to replace the need for a clutch or handbag.

 

The Staq is constructed to give denim a 3D appearance.  Considered a hybrid of chinos and basic denim, Staq jeans feature a buttoned waist tab, side entrance pockets, and back welt-pockets.

Design your own denim! On site, you can pick your jeans and use the iron do some craft patch work.

 

I was completely pleased to observe and confirm the rumors about Pharrell Williams.  He is beyond swaggy in person and definitely ageless.  The 43-year-old mogul serves as a co-owner to the G-Star RAW brand.  As a creative director of Bionic Yarn, Williams will co-design the RAW for the Oceans collection, a line made of recycled ocean goods.

Chris Brown was spotted at last night’s launch party for the Nike Lab x Olivier Rousteing collaboration, rocking Balmain and a NikeLab x Olivier Rousteing black zipper jacket and shoes:

With the collection hitting stores TOMORROW, it made sense for Chris Breezy (and a few other attendees) to show their support by rocking a few pieces. 

His shoes are embellished with metallic gold and high gloss. 

The jacket (N98) features gold framing and an embroidered woven crest. This jacket comes for both men and women, the woman’s feature also doubling as a dress.
