While their mother, the First Lady, donned a Jason Wu frock, the First Daughters Malia and Sasha Obama made their first State Dinner appearances in Naeem Khan gowns from the designer’s pre-fall and resort collections. The dinner was specifically aimed at honoring Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and his wife.

Malia made an indelible impression wearing an embellished Naeem Khan pre-fall 2015 creation of all silk. The gown, which originally retailed for $17,990, is no longer available for purchase.

Sasha on the other hand went darker with a black beaded lace gown that was treated with appliqué from the designer’s resort line-up. That stunner was up on Moda Operandi for $19,990.

Admittedly the dresses were quite expensive for a 17 and 14-year-old. Some in the press have pointed out the price tags. We poked around a bit to see if tax payers are footing the bill and couldn’t find anything definitive though we would anticipate that it’s set up much like Michelle Obama’s arrangement.

The First Lady’s press secretary once released a statement that said that for state visits, clothes are sometimes given by designers and as both of the First Daughters are wearing Naeem Khan, we can take a pretty good guess and say that these were gifts that will be stored by the National Archives.

What did you think of the looks?
