Did you know??
Photographer Gordon Parks was the first African-American to work at Life Magazine?
In addition to his work with Life, Gordon was commissioned by Vogue to shoot fashion photography, and went on to direct blaxploitation films like Shaft and Super Fly. A true renaissance Man, this artist, writer, composer, and filmmaker was a co-founder of Essence Magazine.
HBO Aired a documentary on Mr. Parks last night for Black History Month. Very good.
=)
Love this story on Gordon Parks. Many people dont know or have forgotten the contributions we have made in the world of fashion. Major contributions. Check out Anne Lowe and my blog andre on Andre Leon Talley blog http://tiny.cc/JvxdT
Just wanted to state that he did not direct the film superfly. It was actually his son Gordon junior who wrote and directed it. He did give him money to finish the film.
