Fashion Bomb regular Beyonce Knowles was recently spotted in Berlin’s Tegel Airport rocking some super comfy airport gear:

I love her look (she’s got on heels!), but you know we’ve all seen people in the airport rocking pajamas and house shoes!

My Dad’s a pilot, so we’ve always had to dress up. Even for domestic flights, close toed shoes, a skirt or nice slacks, and a blouse were the rule. I can’t even remember the last time I’ve worn jeans to fly!

But what about you? How comfy is fashionably permissible in the airport?

  1. I’m usually torn, because while I want to be supercomfy, the better you dress the better your free upgrade is. Wear breathable fabrics like cotton/linen on the bottom (no pun intended), and in the summer have a cashmere wrap for that horrid air conditioning. A fabulous pair of shades/a hat are also musts for me.

  2. I appreciate how Rihanna travels for a flight. She still looks cute, but keeps it real by putting on a pair of flats or stylish sneakers, but still remains feminine. I absolutely love heels, but when you are walking through airports trying to catch a flight let’s be real-the ultra high heels are not going to cut it. I love my heels, but for the airport I want to feel comfy (big up to the divas wearing the 4″ to travel). I like Beyonce’s look, but I would have paired it with some cute flat slip-ins or flat gladiator sandals (and a pair of socks in bag for the plane ride b/c my feet get cold on the flight!)

  3. I think wearing heels to the airport is completely rediculous. Especially if you have to walk from one gate to another, but I like to dress cute and comfortable. I would never get caught dead in pajamas because you never know who you will meet or sit next too! I am always aware of networking and I want to look good. A nice pair of slacks and comfortable flats is always appropriate!

  4. Great post, I have a collage of airport peeps I’m working on! I def don’t wear jeans, but I go for super comfy including hooded sweatshirt to make a cocoon once I get on. But sometimes I do feel guilty when I see other fashionistas in the airport!!

  5. awesome post! i like to keep it dressy but comfy at the airport…never know who you might see! i think bey captured my style perfectly! where can i get her shades tho?!?!

  6. I used to go super comfortable when I flew, mostly because I always had layovers. Since I’ve started taking straight flights in the daytime, I’ve gotten more dressy with it. Especially now that I end up going to lunch or out somewhere after I land instead of going straight “home” (wherever I’m staying).

  7. I used to date a guy who worked for Delta and I had a buddy pass and I always had to get dressed up to fly on that pass. Your reminded me of that Claire! lol

I always think “casual fly”… something comfy but can be upgraded with jewelry or shoes. I took a train ride from South Carolina to New York( cheapest way there at the last minute) with my aunt and her friend( both in their 60s) and they were in pants suits and heels on a 12 hr ride!!

  8. Sweats!!! A cute sweat outfit is fine im not into trying to dress up for ppl.at the airport come on. I wear what i like when i like. some sweats && a white tee cute leather jacket && some badd Sandels or ugg boots depending on what season it is!!! do you whatever is the best thing for you

  9. Great post. I really do not like Beyonce’s outfit. I think people like it because she is Beyonce. But to me she looks like she is trying too. Lately all of her looks to me seems like she is trying too hard. It’s like she does not have a fashion style since Rihanna keeps killin em so she throws ish together and people say it is fashionable.

Back to the post. I always dress super comfy when I fly. Jeans, t-shirt, hoodie, sunglasses and socks (in my bag) if I have on flats. But I usually wear sneakers. The reason is I live in the NYC. Even when I leave home earlier there is always the possiblity of traffic. Also, I have gone to JFK and my flight has been re-routed to LGA. I even had a flight leaving from White Plains and it was re-routed to JFK. I’ve also had flight delays and layovers that took hours. So now I dress very comfortable. I really don’t try to dress “just in case I meet someone”. Whoever I meet gotta like me for me. Don’t get me wrong I love my heels. But just not in the airport. I need to be able to move around and run when needed. And when I arrive at my destination and I want to rock my heels, my feet won’t be achy and in pain. To you ladies rockin heels at the airport, go head and rock it for me. I will be the comfortable girl listening to her Ipod and reading a magazine or book.

  10. Juicy Couture tracksuit and Uggs or Havaianas (depending on the temp.) are my flight uniform…I must be comfortable!

I had a roommate freshman year that was from St. Croix, she used to look like she was going to prom whenever she flew home. Full makeup, hair, heels and a seriously sparkly dress (I mean sequins!!). The first time I saw her on her way to the airport I was speechless!! She said if she wore jeans home her family would think she was very sick or seriously depressed. I think she only owned 1 pair of jeans anyway.

She probably thought I was a total slob but she never said so! LOL!

  11. i like to dress comfy on a flight basically my flight uniform is the same as Sherriann’s (the comment above me) a tracksuit some uggs or my rainbows! and if its early in the morning my hair will be wrapped in a cute scarf! the main thing is comfort for me but of course you gotta look cute in some way!

  12. I am personally not a fan of Beyonce’s outfits (since Rhianna has been killing the fashion game lately) but it would be great for the airport if she took those heels off & had on flats. Its comfortable, roomy and she dresses it up with her accessories & shades.

If Rhianna had on that outfit with flats most ladies would love it. Ijust would Bee would stop trying so hard. Its not working for her.

  13. I disagree with Tiffany. First off, Rihanna is not the only person “killing” the fashion game because in my opinion she’s been looking a MESS these past few months. I love Bee’s style and she looks comfortable. She’s not too dressy, and not too casual and she has on her signature heels (because it’s very rare to spot Bee out and about NOT wearing heels). I love the loose fitting of the shirt and pants and I love her sweater. The shoes are hot! I’m not too crazy about the bag because I’ve seen her rock better bags, but overall Bee is looking fab!

    P.S. I love her shades! I have a black & clear pair. :) LOL

  14. i don’t get these comments that because rihanna is killing it right now fashion wise, people don’t like what beyonce is wearing. rihanna and beyonce can both be fly without taking anything away from each other! (they can also both look terribe, but that’s another story!)

anyway, i try to look nice at the airport because you never know what’s gonna happen and i think my mom appreciates when she picks me up from the airport and i look like an adult, lol. i mostly wear flats, carry a pair of socks with me incase it’s cold and jeans and cute tee with something to keep me warm on the flight. i try to keep it loose because i heard that you shouldn’t wear tight things when flying, but most of my flights nowadays are three hours tops so it’s not that bad.

  15. I tend to wear a pair of jeans and tunic or tee with flat sandals in the summer. If I am in a dressed down mode i would wear my favorite juicy sweatsuit. I always bring socks, pashmina/sweater and neck pillow. I tend not to wear heels just in case something goes down and I have to run.

  16. Good post! Well, I was always taught to look ur best when ur going to the airport. I have this thing about looking like a tourist. Lately I’ve been going to Atlanta every year to visit family and on every flight there was a celebrity (Akon, John Legend, Jim Jones etc.) so, I try to be comfortable yet chic.

  17. I LOVE HEELS I EVEN WEAR THEM TO THE MALL SOMETIMES…BUT IN AN AIRPORT?? NEVA 1ST OF ALL EVERYTIME I FLY IT SEEMS LIKE MY GATE IS THE LAST ONE IN THE AIRPORT…THEN I GOTTA TAKE A SHUTTLE HALF THE TIME TO GET TO THE OTHER END…I WEAR FLIP FLOPS SOME NICE LOOSE FITTING PANTS AND A NICE TOP…BUT THOSE HEELS BEYONCE GOT ON…I MEAN SERIOUSLY, I’M NOT RUNNING THRU THE AIRPORT IN 6 INCH HEELS TRYING TO CATCH A PLANE…MATTER OF FACT I’LL BE IN THE AIRPORT THURSDAY..WE’LL SEE HOW MY OUTFIT TURNS OUT…MAYBE I’LL SEND A PIC…LOL

  18. I always try to look “casual fly”. Back in the day when I was a poor college student I traveled by greyhound and had one blue and yellow track suit I would wear back to NY. It was a long, long long ride from NC, so I just wanted to be comfy..and I was broke. Now that I am older and have given up my Greyhound ways..I fly..and I try to wear jeans..cute flats or boots (season)..hair is hooked..makeup is done…nice earrings and some shades. I cant have my people picking me up and I look like a bum..nah bee!

  19. I like to dress up abit for the airport, regardless of what anyone thinks. I don’t wear makeup but I do usually wear a pair of ankle boots, leggings and a tank top. I just feel better with heels on, besides, ankle boots are pretty comfy and I take them off for the whole planeride so my feet are never in any discomfort. It’s nice to look good when you land, especially if you’re meeting people at the airport. Just my opinion anyway. I wouldn’t dress like a slob anywhere but home so why the airport? Hehe.
