Check out today’s Bombshell, native Virginian, Shanon:

She says, “I just moved to New York City from Virginia around three weeks ago.

” I would say my style is a blend between eclectic and chic.”

“… I’m super into art, indie music, and photography so they each influence my style differently.”

” But being a fashion major it is definitely important to always maintain a sense of chic.”

” I’m always on the go so I wear a lot of pieces that can transition easily around the days activities. Feeling comfortable is a must, besides shorts, I don’t believe in wearing denim, so my entire pants collection consists of high -waists, slacks, and harems(lol).”

” I love the aesthetic of nappy hair and wearing the same bundle bracelets/ rings for days at a time!”

” I have a blog (www.kissmyfashion.org) about fashion..a little d.i.y, music, and dope stuff I find around NYC.”

Ok! You certainly embody the eclectic look of an artist and fashion student!

  1. I think Betsey Johnson is the only one that can wear this nappy hair to this extreme. These outfits are extremely ill fitting, nothing chic about it! This to me does not say fashion student but fashion flunkie.

  2. Her style works in a whole Kesha, Amy winehouse, West Village type way. The typical artsy, indie, photographer look. I don’t think everyone has to go for glam, so I say yes! The wigs look wiggy and like they need a shampoo, but that’s what “garbage chic” style is, I suppose.

  3. Um…I like your accessories…

That hair…I try to stay positive but sister…smh..it looks knotted and smelly. You’re such an attractive girl, that hair is all kinds of wrong and does you no justice.

  4. @Claire
Are your submissions for Fashion Bomb becoming empty if so I will encourage a couple of my girlfriends to submit – I won’t be submitting not because I don’t think I’m fashionable it’s because I don’t take pics of all my outfits nor do I care to…. NO OFFENSE to anyone and I also don’t blog about fashion

  5. I know she said she doesnt “believe in denim” so she wears different pants. However, there are far too many different cuts for a pant for her to have essentially the same pant in the four initial pix of her.

That hair is…. Unique. The “Im an artist” look she’s going for? She hit the nail right on the head.
And thats all Im gonna say about that.

  6. I would suggest that you opt for better quality wigs. Your wigs look cheap and unkempt which is not a good look. You have some cute pieces, but your outfits could have been arrange in a more complementary way.

  7. She looks…fun…

I agree that it looks a little disheveled but I think in time it’ll be a bit more streamlined without losing originality. As for now I’d have to say no to being a bombshell.

  8. I like her look- very struggling art student. It’s not my style but I think its cute. I can’t relate to the matted hair look but I guess that she’s doing her.

  9. Oh, I really want to be positive, but these outfits just miss the mark. And I won’t start on the hair piled on tip of her hair…looks like she took it out the pack and slapped it on her head. And I won’t start on the unmade bed in one of the pics. I know, I know, I should only be concentrating on the outfits, but when everything is amiss, it’s hard not to comment on it.

  10. I like some of the pieces. Cool accessories. I would say she needs to edit certain ensembles but I’m guessing she is going for the “unedited look.” I can dig it. I do think with guidance she’ll come into the style she is going for…BUT chile that wig…lay it rest

  11. I like it (for her) she looks how I expect an art student to look- if that means much, lol. Strange enough my favorite look on her is the outfit w/the denim cutoffs-go figure since I’m typically not a fan of cut offs. And the hair…well if it were all hers I’d be okay with that look, but being that it’s not hers I’m not a fan. Nappy (real) just fine; Nappy (fake) no way.

  12. There is no variety in her wardrobe…. in a majority of the pics she’s wearing a blouse, ill fitting high waist cropped pants and flats. Where’s the fashion??

  13. Tip to the ladies…if you all are going to wear a weave and try to make it look like a “natural” the trick is not to wear it so long that it looks matted. Cute girl…but this is way to quirky for my taste…..

  14. Oh hum bum! Again, this young lady has sooo much potential, I even get the look she is going for however, she failed. Well, I’ll just say I missed it. Everything looks the same, not to mention her comments about herself were not well stated.Something tells me her natural hair would have made the outfits a bit more bareable…until tomorrow

  15. I didn’t like the big red wig but the other one was acceptable given the look she was going for. I really liked the pattern shirt and lace pants. I think that was my favorite. Overall I thought she was cute and creative.

  16. Teal shirt, w the red belt is cute..I know where she is going, and in time she will get there.

  17. Her looks are very Messy and cheap looking! I see where she is trying to go, but she does not execute her looks well. I’m sure since she moved to the big apple she will gain more inspiration to incorporate into her personal style.

  18. I voted bombshell. Not that I would wear most of her looks, but that’s part of fashion….. Expressing who you are. If you like it, I love it!

  19. I really miss when these fashion bombshell posts were really good. Lately, it just seems like the bombshells featured are individuals who have just pulled clothes out of an old clothes bin and thrown them on. Waiting for the next one.

  20. Her clothes and hair are a total disaster. *In my Iman voice* “this is a fashion emergency and we need an evacuation!!”

  21. Her pants fit so terribly. I expected more from a fashion student.
I will not even get into the wigs because it’s just too much.

  22. Got to commend someone who is fearless and confident to submit themselves. The hair is distracting.

  23. Lol whoever said struggling artist hit me right on the nail! Going to design school in ny is tough! Just a little sn for the chick that”expected more from a fashion student” we dont have time to breathe let alone shop as often as were studying the industry! All of us generally rock basics 24/7 & complain about it later lol. I never post photos of basics because its not what people want to see! Lol i was definitely expecting backlash on the hair! Which is super mainstream of all of you(smh) during fashion week i was getting about 100 compliments an hr on it ;) and even without those id continue rocking my “matted wig” until the dreads im growing lock up ;)

  24. TERRIBLE! eclectic? maybe if i squint real hard. chic? umm, no girl. you’re in nyc so, maybe in due time after you’ve been acclimated to the city, your fellow fashion students, & all the style that the city has to offer you your style will truly become eclectic & chic. oh, please stop w/those wigs. they take away instead of giving. if you must do the wigs go to youtube. lots of beautiful, realistic wigs being showcased.

  25. mmmm….the accessories I adore, but if you’re really into how “nappy hair” looks why not just have nappy hair instead of wigs with a weird kind of closure/part? The pants and outfits are definitely original and I give you props for submitting your photos. We can be a harsh crowd. I won’t pretend to be fashion-savvy enough to “see where you’re going”. If this is your style then rock it :)

  26. I’m sorry. I do not like it when women dress like this. Its too costume-y. If that’s a word. I mean come on… glasses, belt, bracelets, necklace, tailored pants, tailored shirt, big hair all on one outfit!! Its just too much. This is not style. Just plain tacky.

  27. I like her look for her. It’s not “trendy” and I think thats what makes her special. I for sure as hell couldn’t pull it off, but she can. I say “GO GIRL”! F*ck-Get the haters! lol :)

  28. now the people who complimented your hair…were they white?…cause if so girl…i am not impressed.

  29. I like your choice of clothing, love the lace pants. Congrats on your courage for submitting your pictures to Claire. I wish you well in your journey in The Big Apple.

  30. A lot of the pieces dont fit too well. I can see where she is going with her style. I actually like the plaid pants and tank top outfit if the pants fit a bit better!! She is very cute and her style will continue to evolve. I definitely see the potential =)

  31. This is my first time posting. This look lacks finesse. There’s a fine line between appearing edgy versus ragged. Her clothes and belts want better fitting; her hair need keeping; and overall the photos and angles were not becoming of the young lady. Maybe she can try again ….submit other pictures?

  32. I always say mean things….but i love it!

shes somewhat of a black hippy, and not everyone will understand it, but i like what she does.

  33. I like your choice of clothing, love the lace pants. Congrats on your courage for submitting your pictures to Claire. I wish you well in your journey in The Big Apple.

  34. Ok, so no one is talking about the friend with the sequin pants and sheer shirt. LOL!! I can’t today!!

  35. This just makes me think fashion students stand around lying to each other ’bout “Hunty, you look fierce” Why lie to yourself and your friends? There’s an eclectic aesthetic (not even going to start with the nappy topic) but then there’s doing the most and flopping. Whoa, that was harsh: that’s why I’m posting Anon. She’s a cute cute girl though. Umm, stay in school…? Tried to end on a positive note.

  36. I like her energy. I also respect her indiviualistic view of dressing. With that said, you can be “artsy” and “fashiony” without being overtly dishelved. There needs to be a little bit more streamlining here as far the presentation goes. * Sidenote-not everyone who is studyig fashion, has studied fashion or is “into” fashion dresses like they threw random sh*t together and I pray to God people stop doing that and passing it off as being “unique”. The end.

  37. Girl, all the compliments were people just being nice.

You’re growing locs, cool…let go of the wig and embrace your transition. I’ve been a dred for over 12yrs and when my friend decided to dred she did the same thing until I snatched it off her head and burned it. lol My point, enjoy every step of your loc’ing experience, don’t run from it…especially with that trash piece on your head. You’re too beautiful for that.

  38. I like it…and let me tell you why…..it looks like this is truly her…So many FB look like they are copying a trend and trying to be the trend ( I’m talking to you hipster wannabes!!) She looks like she really just picks out her pants and bracelets and wig and goes…Welcome to NYC!

  39. As a fellow struggling artist/art student: I get it. I see you. I know. LOL I like that this feels like your authentic style, and not like someone trying too hard.

Welcome to NY. That red wig tho, NO. It does you no justice, hun!
