  1. Dear BGs (Black Girls),

Weave will kill your look every time. I promise. Just say “No” to weave in 2013. As for you, Breana, you’re a pretty chic, but the massive fake hair takes away from your obvious natural beauty. Be fearless without it! =)

    Signed,
    A BG (Black Girl)

  2. Dear @BG,
Mind your OWN SCALP! Natural haired nazis are soooo annoying and pretentious. If anyone wants to wear a weave that’s THEIR BUSINESS! you most likely wear makeup and that’s not ~natural~ either

    Signed,
a natural haired girl who doesn’t care about the next woman’s hair (and i wear weaves too #sueme)

  3. Bella I love weave but the brazilian wavy wand curl flexirod is wayyyyyyyy over done. Admit defeat and take a seat.

  4. Style is fine but im bored with looks like these.

I LOOOOOOVE the phrase “mind your own scalp” Yessss put that on a shirt!!! -signed a faithful weave and my RELAXED hair wearer.

  5. Okkk. Moving PAST the hair and onto the fashion. Sadly, I’m not a fan. I understand the tomboy chic trend going on right now. However, I don’t think it was properly executed in this sense. The shoes never quite went with the outfits. Take the floral romper for example, beautiful picture from ankles up, and then the shoes just totally destroyed it. Would have still been cute with men inspired dress shoes. I think women can wear “tomboy” or men’s pieces and make them feminine in more creative ways. Don’t always run to the big sneakers or jerseys with heels. Take a couple of pages out of GQ or Esquire, and put your own womanly twist to it. But I do like some of the pieces! My aadvice to Breana is get off IG and into actual fashion magazines, continue to evolve, and then resubmit!

  6. Leya…totally! I think a lot of girls want tomboy but are completely afraid of androgyny weirdly enough. Rihanna has totally changed the landscape (well Teyanna Taylor but she’s not relevant sooo…) of what girls can get away with but people have driven it into the ground. We get it jordans, dunks, or whatever is “in” but it’s also tired. Try some wing tips and a crisp suit.

  7. I wasn’t feeling this. I did get a chuckle out of the comments posted…”mind your own scalp”, “natural hair nazis”? Where is the love ladies and gents?

  8. I AM BREANA, THE GIRL POSTED JUST TO BE CLEAR. I LOVE THE CRITIQUES ON STYLE AND FASHION AND THAT’S WHY I LOVE FASHION. I PERSONALLY FEEL FASHION SHOULD BE DEBATABLE SOMETHING THAT MIGHT NOT BE IN THE NORM. WHAT I DON’T GET IS WHY IS MY WEAVE UP FOR DEBATE? IT’S NOT ON NO ONE ELSE HEAD BUT MINE SO MIND YOUR OWN SCALP. NO SHADE. YOU GUYS CAN FOLLOW ME @bstrongbitches to see my style is very versatile but enjoy your weekend.

  9. Ok lets get into the fashion. Honey…hair is part of one’s fashionable presentation and effects how one executes a look. So outside of one’s hair politics- hair is a part of the discussion. In this instance, her hair is overwhelming and a distraction (As noted by some). It doesn’t flatter her presentation, nor does it highlight her beauty. (I’m seeing some stunning cheekbones under that hair) It’s clear her fashion sense is still developing. There’s an eye for color, texture use, and pushing the envelope; however details with shoe and hair accessories still need further development. I agree with the androgynous comments…As she develops she can make the concept her own outside of trends. Literal translations of fashion concepts (i.e androgeny) is why she’s not bombshell status.

  10. Discussing one’s hair in fashion without over politicizing it is totally valid. I think we all recognize how hair can often make or break one’s style. Case in point: our Claire with her blond tresses in funky updos. She has elevated her style game with this signature look.

Breana is very cute and I don’t the hair warrants do much discussion. But yes, I can imagin her (and others) rocking a different ‘do and taking her style to the next level.

    Happy weekend!

  11. I suppose this is the part where I defend my stance. Eh.

Take it how you may. My position still stands. And ditto to what Deedee wrote.

  12. HER HAIR IS FINE I AGREE THAT HER STYE IS TRENDY = THATS IT IS NORMAL THAT RIRI TOMBOY CHIC STYLE THE ONLY THING I SUGGEST GIRL IS ADDING SOME MORE PIECES THAT DONT FOLLOW THE NORM SO THAT YOU CAN STAND OUT MORE THAT IF YOU WANT TO.

  13. Why is it anytime someone talks about an outlandishly awful looking weave they are a natural hair nazi? You look ridiculous, plain and simple. I’d rather be nappy and looking crazy with my own hair that grows out of my own head any day than spending hundreds of dollars making other folks rich.

  14. Its amazing to me how each and eveyone of us have a worldwind of imperfections but yet we still feel like we have the right to zero in one what we believe to be a “flaw” on someone else smh… furthermore she represents herself the way she see’s fit and it suited her description and she executed accordingly

  15. I chode ‘some hits, some misses’. But the only outfit I liked is the floral get-up (last pic). I too hate the hair. You look like you have alot of potential tho so Im confident your style will evolve nicely.
