After the COVID-19 lockdows and the fact that we had to stay at home(not that it wasn’t nice for a while), we are now just waiting for an opportunity to pop up so that we can take our best suits out of the wardrobe and strut them properly. Naturally, it doesn’t always have to be something over the top, but it’s nice when we have to make an effort about our outfit. Almost each place we visit, whether it be the theater, an opera, a fancy restaurant and even a casino, has its own set of rules(written or unwritten) about which types of clothes and looks are allowed or mandatory in order for you to enter its premises.

For instance, you surely won’t be going to see “Swan Lake” in your best sneakers and jeans. The same follows for casinos. Certain land-based casinos have established specific guidelines on what is expected from the guests. Some will require a more formal appearance whereas some casinos won’t even have a dress-code outlined. However, it’s definitely something you should check beforehand, but if you are going to one of those luxurious and extravagant casino parlors, chances are, you’ll have to look the part. So, to learn some basics about casino fashion, stay tuned and keep reading.

Comfy but not too comfy

Naturally, if you visit a casino, you’re probably planning on sticking around for a couple of hours. That’s why you should definitely wear something comfortable and a type of material that isn’t easily wrinkled as you’ll be sitting a lot. However, when we say comfortable, we mean only that—an outfit you feel good in but also an outfit that’s acceptable in public. So, even if your PJs are the comfiest outfit you can think of, it still doesn’t make them suitable for a casino night out.

Make sure to avoid clothes with rude and flashy signs and slogans. It’s always better to opt for more minimalistic prints such as stripes and basic colors(white, blac, gray,etc.). You can never go wrong with a comfy white T-shirt and a fine pair of trousers.

Plus, make sure that your shoes match your outfit and it’s advisable to avoid open shoes—so that’s a no on flip-flops and sandals.

Mind the dress code

As we’ve mentioned already, some casinos will definitely have a dress code clearly stated on their websites. Casinos such as the Venetian Macao or The Borgata have certain dress codes you have to follow and they require you to dress well, especially if you’re planning on using other facilities such as their restaurants and bars.

When you find the dress code on the casino’s website, you’ll have to know what the term entails in order to know how to dress. For example, if the code is white tie, that means the casino expects the highest level of elegance and formality from you—basically anything you would see in a Bond movie. You’re supposed to look your best, so make sure to take out your finest suits and gowns. And you’re also expected to be familiar with the rules of the games. If you choose to play poker, for instance, you should be well-versed in poker basics in order for the game to flow smoothly.

Another popular and formal dress code is black tie that is usually used when talking about evening events and VIP lounges. So, that means you should choose darker tones like black or dark blue. A bow tie is still mandatory and women are expected to strut an elegant cocktail dress.

The different kinds of casual

And last, but not least, we have to go over the different types of casual dress codes that exist so that you don’t go wrong when visiting a casino. The two most common casual dress codes are casual and business casual. You’re probably wondering what the difference is. Well, business casual, as can be guessed from the name, means you still can’t wear the first thing that you take from your closet. Think of it this way, business casual is usually an outfit you’d wear to work. That can be a nice polo shirt and sport jacket for men or a blouse and skirt when talking about women.

On the other hand, a casual dress code is the least formal and you really can’t go wrong with this one. You don’t have to stress about suits, ties, ballgowns or anything of the sort. Unless stated otherwise, any casual wear is allowed as long as it’s not ripped or old.

The bottom line

Hopefully, now you’re ready to head down to your casino and stun everyone present by how good your outfit looks. The sooner you check the casino’s dress code, the easier it will be for you to plan an outfit and the more time you’ll have.
