Last night my friend Demetria Lucas aka A Belle in Brooklyn hosted a cocktail event at EVR in Manhattan. Her gatherings always attract a fashionable crowd, so I tapped photographer Dario Calmese to take a few pix of the fly attendees:
Journalist Patrice Peck gave us a sultry stare from underneath a black fedora. A pop of red added the only flourish this gray and ebony outfit needed. Hot!
Fashion Bomb reader Kelli looked work ready in a Bebe trench and patterned dress.
Guys always know what’s up! Travis looked dapper in an Alfred Dunhill blazer and bowtie from his line, Kingston21.
This young lady looked smashing in a blue suit offset by suede tangerine pumps and a fuchsia top. I love a colored suit. Hot!
Hairstylist Kiara traveled from Philly to attend the event, and uplifted a bodycon dress with holographic pumps from Forever 21.
Alanzo Dale was snow ready in camouflage pants and sturdy boots.
Jason always looks great! The school teacher chose a Club Monaco suit and a Kenzo scarf for the night.
Can you tell Fola is a model? She made a simple tank and high waisted pants look amazing.
Lisa Marie Phoenix worked an all black look, accessorized by a turban.
Jaclyn looked smart in readers and a cool blond pompadour hairstyle.
How cute is she? DaMonica mixed prints in a green sweater and Boxing Kitten pants.
Danjuma skewed simple in navy and charcoal tones.
This young lady worked a pair of snake print pumps and a fun Forever 21 blazer.
Kela Walker from Kela’s Kloset offset a black dress with an on trend striped blazer.
More stripes! Publicist Alex chose a Joe Fresh top and DKNY pants for the festivities.
Essence Magazine Relationships Editor Charreah Jackson was ravishing in a printed red dress.
And the best dressed DJ, DJ CEO, punctuated a striped button down and vest with red pants.
The night’s hostess with the mostest looked super cute in a Nanette Lepore Club mix dress and suede wedge sandals. Check out a close up of her shoes:
Hot!
As for me, I hopped on Spring 2013’s ‘world prints’ trend in a Mary Katrantzou Spring 2013 jersey tee, Rag & Bone jeans, Jimmy Choo Anouk pumps, and my fave Proenza Schouler bag, worn as a clutch.
What do you think?

New Yorkers have literally the worst style ever lol. You and DL look cute but everyone else looks rather average but not in the “I’m effortlessly casual chic” but the “I tried real hard to put together a trendy outfit but still ain’t doin it”
Claire u look lovely!
Claire & pal’s super fun prints are giving me L-I-F-E on this dreary NY morning. Tx! :-D
Patrice! YES! Fola: serving. Everyone looked great!
What an idiotic generalization. You’re probably somewhere in the south with rainbow colored jeans and blue lipstick believing you are fashionable. Think before you speak! If you’ve travelled the world, you would know there are many variations of style, and New York is culturally diverse. This means, we don’t all huddle in Aeropostale and A&E to purchase polo t-shirts and consider ourselves “fresh”! FOH
-Signed Bed-stuy!
Love your jeans Claire. They are fitting right!
Nah for real though, New Yorkers have questionable style compared to other places such a London. This was proven during the street style posts Claire did during fashion weeks. Anyway, Claire looks good, the rest not so much.
Fashion is open to interpretation, its forever evolving. What is fashionable to you may not be fashionable to another. However, I like some of the outfits that were featured, especially the blue outfit.
Wasnt half the style this year from London…not everyone dress the same.
Cute Claire. Seems like everyone had a good time.
Claire you and your friend look good the rest of the guests could have cleaned up or refreshed their looks a little more.

Cosign Dee Last time i checked,New York is the fashion capital of the world and set the trends so what stylish place do YOU people that say New Yorkers have questionable style come from??
I’m a New Yorker and my life gravitates between the financial district, Soho, Union Square, the UWS and Midtown. I can assure that those people Claire to showcase in her NY street style/ NY events posts are NOT representative of the level of style you can find here in NY daily, whatever the social or cultural background. Blame it on Claire not on NY! Rant over.
PS: I’m from Paris originally and I spent some time in London as well. So I know my fashion (lol). Yes the European style cannot compare. I lived 2 years in Houston and sorry, in general people had a very wack sense of style there.
*I can assure that those people Claire chooses to showcase
What about those wedges tho?? Where can I get them?
Everybody looks basic. Everybody. Take away the labels and it’s just plain and basic. And the poses and looking away from the camera looks are killing me. I refuse to sugar coat.
NYC is full of style. Full of it. The people that have great and natural style aren’t standing around hot spots waiting for some blogger to take their pic. If you are in NYC just simply walk around the not too popular areas, take side streets and you will see how fashionably fabulous New Yorkers are.
so….about DJ CEO…is he straight? Does he have a girlfriend? If not, does he want one?
its a dark, dreary day. i was hoping for more sun and less s-h-a-d-e. ;-/
Amen @ Problem ?
Its,sunny in the south but I totally agree with rhonyc…
Clarie your hair alone gives me life!!!
I hope Mrs. Lucas had on some snow boots then changed when she got there those sandals are cute and all but not in a blizard!
I think the guys out dressed the girls at this event. This is not a representative of NYC street style (born and raised) This is an after work it’s a snow storm outside so let me throw on something cute and comfortable and I think everyone did just that. Not that deep guys.
Uh…..well, this is a different crowd. I love Claires ‘fit – white in winter, yes! Not feeling the styling of the hair, but cute nonetheless.
Wow. Looking at the comments…angry much? lol
Let me tell you, NY may have style but they can not compare to Europe. Sorry, it is and always have been the centre of fashion.
That said, style is like art and music…it’s personal and speaks to everyone differently. People should be allowed to express themselves through their style. I didn’t see much wrong with the style posted, but the men certainly won. I love the wedged shoes featured.
@Soul Touch: if you read what I said, I confirmed the European style was another level. But then again, in general, people here in NY take more risk, are more creative when it comes to casual style. In London or Paris, it’s more effortless style, chic, clean, not useless over the top (which you can find Midtown Manhattan and UES).
I’m not feeling anything really.
@Emma
I wasn’t speaking specifically to you but in general to the different statements made.
@boring; Have you seen “ALL New Yorkers”, no I don’t think you have. So this statement is pointless.
No! to everybody above except Claire. Baaaaaby that hair? The bomb! Make them pay baby!
Loving all the looks. I love your hair Claire.
Well, Claire looks cute!
Ah… interesting looks…
Claire looks wonderful.
:blank stare:
I like the bright blue suit look. Meh and a snap to all other looks!
Nice post Claire. Keep these type of posts coming. Even though people dont always like the fashions i like real style over celeb style.
Loved your look Claire!!
lol @ Dee how are you going to call out somebody for making an “idiotic generalization” only to turn around and basically do the same thing?
Anywho most of the guys look great. I think Kela looks cute. Demetria looks nice but im freezing just looking at her.
I wasn’t impressed with not one look.
None of these women have hair…or much of it…
Kela looks nice.
I’m loving the wedges on Demetria! Trying to figure out where I’ve seen them.
me-fcuking-ow! Ya’ll are on one today. I don’t like most of the pictures..just can’t get into the looks, but i don’t think people came with the intended purpose of being on a fashion blog so lets simmer down. Most look like they came from work.
Claire looks great but Claire is fab and most aren’t on her level so it’s to be expected that she outshines them all.
Demetria’s either put on some weight or was seriously bloated…she’s gorgeous but this is the worst I’ve seen her, cute shoes aside. And “poetic justice” braids are NOT for everyone…she looked so much better TO ME in her polished short styles. but who am I …so keep doing your thing ladies!
Demetrias’s a friend in my head. She looks pretty. I love NY style. New Yorkers are not afraid to express themselves. Overrall everyone’s style was unique and chic.
wow. totally not feelin the swag in that crowd.
claire you look really cute :)
love your t-shirt and whats become your ‘signature’ plum lip .
that’s dope
Lmao! @Dee everyone looks nice!
Fola…. One word. “EFFORTLESS”. She looks good in anything. A basic tank and trousers and still killing them. her face is amazing. WERK!
I have to agree with most of the comments. I was there & there were better dressed women there than these photographs. Not impressed!
everyone looked great! i’m glad my two fave bloggers are friends!
The girl in the blue dress has a nice body and I like Claire’s shirt…that’s all I got.
Cattyyy! Smh. I’ve been to CWB and most ppl are coming from work. It’s not that serious. But lol @ Dee. Bed Stuy is in the building. Anywho…Travis looks nice…my homeboy is his partner…nice to see them getting some shine on FBD. Claire looked cute and I liked Demetria’s fit too!
Who the eff us hating on NY. You wish you could walk the streets of NY and be relevant. Go to your barn and have several seats…..
Claire I hate you for your shirt, but you already knew that.
*i want oneeee !*
LOL I love when someone said don’t generalize but do the same thing :/ Style is personable and objective. You can find great style anywhere and a lack of style anywhere let’s stop pretending that one area has a lock on everything…moving on.
