The Fashion Bomb News Breakdown: Vogue Italia’s Whitewashed Cover, NBC’s Fashion Star Making Big Changes in its Second Season, and Atelier Schiaparelli Opens

• The folks over at Styleite are surprised to see exactly 0 faces of color on the cover of this months’ Vogue Italia. The cover features six impossibly pale models in frothy black frocks. Hillary George-Parkin writes,  “Sozzani is clearly conscious of the significant lack of diversity in Vogue Italia and fashion magazines in general, given her vocal stance on eating disorders, embroilment in the recent ‘slave earring‘ and ‘Haute Mess‘ controversies, decision to put together an all-black issue back in 2008, and of course the sheer fact that after said issue Vogue Italia didn’t put another black model on their cover for four whole years. Once in possession of this kind of awareness, whether through force or gradual realization, doesn’t it tend to, well, *color* the way you see things? And at that point, isn’t it a little hard to justify an all-white group cover as a purely aesthetic choice?” Hmm… I’m not at all troubled by this. It seems, sadly, like business as usual. What do you think? (Styleite)

• The Daily Beast is launching FashionBeast, a new fashion blog similar to New York Magazine‘s The Cut. Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Robin Givhan will contribute regularly, as will other soon-to-be-named writers. (WWD)

Camila Alves, fashion model and wife to one Matthew McConaughey, has been tapped as the new face of Macy’s I.N.C. brand. (WWD)

• Word on the street is Donatella Versace‘s looking to launch a men’s fragrance called Eros this fall. (WWD)

Fashion Star is coming back for a second season, but not without some major changes. Elle McPherson will no longer host (although she will stay on and fulfill her duties as producer), and, probably most shocking of all, H&M has pulled its support and will no longer be involved with the show! (Page Six)

• Atelier Schiaparelli is open for business! The re-emerging brand set up shop at Paris’s Place Vendome, in a colorful space. Notables like Karl Lagerfeld and Haider Ackermann stopped by to fête the new opening. So, who’s headed to Paris for some custom Schiap? (Vogue UK)
