The Fashion Bomb News Break Down-031313-Anna Wintour Named Artistic Director of Condé Nast, Teen Vogue Releases Apparel Collection With Macy’s, and Michelle Williams Dons ‘Redface’ for AnOther Magazine

• Those of you hoping for an Anna Wintour ambassadorship, put those dreams to rest. She will be much too busy juggling her job at Vogue, and her brand new gig as artistic director of Condé Nast. The 64-year-old editrix is tightening her already-firm grip on the magazine publishing business in this newly-added position, acting as an advisor of sorts to all the titles under the Condé Nast umbrella. According to the New York Times, specific duties of her new job include: “assuming broader creative duties throughout the company, and having a say in its expanding portfolio of platforms, including the recent development of an entertainment division.” But this isn’t anything new for Ms. Wintour “I advise all sorts of people in the outside world,” she told the Times, “and really, I see this as an extension of what I am doing, but on a broader scale.”  (NYT)

• There is a steady stream of racial insensitivity in fashion. Just recently, Numéro Russia caught flack for their ‘African Queen’ spread, featuring Ondria Hardin, a white model clad in African-inspired garb, rocking a mean ‘ol case of brownface to boot. So today, let’s skip all the outrage and declarations of wrongdoing, because by now, it’s safe to say that people should know better. Instead, I ask this question: why do you think Caucasian Michelle Williams is dressed up like a Native American on the cover of AnOther magazine? (Jezebel)

• Vouge Eyewear has tapped the beautiful Eva Mendes to front their Spring 2013 campaign. The Mario Testino-lensed shots are due to drop this month. As for the glasses, prices range from $90 for a pair of shades to $130 for optical frames. Will you be buying? (WWD)

Teen Vogue editors have teamed up with Macy‘s to develop a new junior’s label named after the Condé Nast title. The collection promises fare for the daring stylista, including “fashion-forward silhouettes, bold prints, bright colors and quirky accents. There are maxidresses, jumpsuits, printed leggings, short dresses, chambray shirts, bandeaus, shorts, bralettes, jackets and tanks.” Prices are tremendously affordable, ranging from $20-$60. The new label drops today– any plans to check it out? (WWD)

• Just as they did four years ago for their womenswear line, Burberry is moving their men’s runway show from Milan to London this June. “London is the creative heart of Burberry and our global headquarters,” said chief creative officer Christopher Bailey, “ so we are incredibly excited to be showing our next men’s collection here.” Sound argument!
