Readers have been clamoring for looks from VH1′s Single Ladiesever since the show hit the small screen. Positioned as the urban Sex And The City, VH1′s fashionable Single Ladies pick up where Samantha, Miranda, Charlotte, and Carrie left off, with Val, Keisha, and April twirling in gold shorts, blue Louboutins, and saucy strapless snow white frocks.
While on set stylist Anthony Williams creates most of the looks by combining vintage pieces (like the cut out white vintage Thierry Mugler dress Val wore on the last episode) or custom pieces (think pink top and green bow skirt cut from Carolina Herrera fabric), we can still help you get the look of a few of your fave new female characters. Turbans off to uber stylist June Ambrose, who has taken songstress Chrisette Michele under her wing and transformed her repertoire of outfits from frumpy Hmm…to sizzling hot!
Let’s take a few notes, shall we?
At last year’s Hip Hop Honors Awards show, Chrisette opted for a roomy sweater dress with black leggings and suede boots. Her blonde streaked hairstyle was hot, but the nude lip and makeup made her look more drab than fab. Fast forward a year and voila! Chrisette turned it out for the Soul Train Awards in a black outfit, nipped in at the waist with a bejeweled belt. Platform peep toes added some height, and a dash of red lip=fabu-u-lous.
Last year a fresh faced Chrisette chose a black blazer, shiny leggings, and black sandals to sit front row at the Allude show at New York fashion week. The outfit is fine…but it doesn’t pop! One year later, and Chrisette has switched out her basic black blazer for a plum creation. Funky leopard shoes sub in for plain black sandals, and of course she has a bit of color on her lips. The spidery lashes are a bit much, but overall this new look is hot!
Chrisette opted again for a black jacket to attend the launch of CocoPerez.com last year. The look is cute, but so not glam. This year, she funked her look up with a flowery shirt, red lipstick, and the rockstar requisite: sunglasses inside.
Our new chic stylista even upgraded her casual looks. She wore a pink velour sweatsuit at a meet and greet this past winter. This time around, she swapped out the sweats for jeans and a cherry red statement jacket. Kooky, yes, but a vast improvement.
So bottom line ladies, here’s your chic cheat sheet: Instead of roomy and loose, opt for a figure flattering dress with a waist cinching belt. Gem colored blazers are always better than black. And red lips are required!
So since the nation is caught up in Lebron James fever, I figured it would be a good time to take a look at the style of the man of the moment.
The popular basketball player and new member of the Miami Heat has a style that diverges from the typical ‘jerseys and jeans’ formula adopted by most men.
Let’s take a look:
For casual situations, Lebron opts for anything from black leather hoodies to bright green varsity jackets worn with baggy jeans and comfortable sneakers.
Whatever he rocks, he typically accessorizes his looks with dark sunglasses, multiple chains, and a Roc-a-fella hand sign.
When he wants to step it up, watch out! The GQ and Vogue cover-boy loves a vest and has been seen on many the red carpet wearing dark hued options with slick button down shirts, ties, and dark jeans.
For super dressy events he steps it up, wearing cardigans and camel colored jackets with dark gray pants, punched up by lavender button downs and cool scarves.
He’s not a black suit kinda guy, but he works it–flawlessly.
Guys, if you want a Lebron essence, get it with these:
Hey!
So it’s been a long time since we’ve had a Style File!
Since we first started the feature in ’07, we’ve highlighted everyone from Janelle Monae and Lauren London to Janet Jackson and Rihanna. Last night I took to Twitter to see who I may have overlooked, and thankfully my buddy Charles suggested Atlanta songstress Monica:
The pixie haired singer has been on and off our style radar since her debut album “Miss Thang” back in 1995. Let’s take a look at some of her most recent style forays, shall we?
For promotional pit stops, Monica keeps lots of Balmain and Alexander Wang on tap, favoring strong shouldered military jackets and football inspired jersey dresses.
When kicking it low key at basketball games, she keeps her heels on hand, brightening up her look with a orange bag and ice blue platform heels.
For club engagements and red carpet events, it’s all black everything with a twist with a black suit set off by jewel embellished heels.
Today I wanted to profile a new Fashion Bomb worthy stylista on the scene, Shala Monroque:
The young editor-at-large of Pop Magazine (and girlfriend to famously wealthy art mogul Larry Gagosian) has been busy on the party circuit, meriting a place as one Style.com’s Top Party People of 2009 and Who What Wear’s Girl of the Month, thanks to her fearless style, sick shoe collection, and indisputable beauty. We thought it was high time to see what all the buzz was about, and we weren’t disappointed!
For international fashion weeks, Shala brings out the boldness in vibrant colored skirts and simple shirts, punched up with tribal heels and chic statement necklaces.
At fashionable fetes she keeps the flavor going in fun mini dresses set off by cute feather adorned stiletto sandals or slim cut airy separates with interesting details.
For more casual engagements, she skews towards simple in solid colored blazers worn over conservative shifts.
But whatever she wears, it’s clear: homegirl is fierce!
If you want to channel a bit of her essence, do so with these fun picks:
She might give Genevieve Jones a run for her money on the socialite scene!
What do you think of this new Fashion Bomb addition?

It’s been quite a while since we’ve had a Style File!
We’ve highlighted everyone from Kelis to Kerry Washington, but it seems there are always rising style stars waiting in the wings. Today, we’ll take a look at….
…Paula Patton!
The fabulous actress, wife to Robin Thicke, and stunning beauty has been increasing her red carpet sizzle with an onslaught of lovely dresses and separates in flattering fits.
For the evening Paula pulls out all the stops, flaunting her frame in cherry red gowns and cocktails in sequined ivory…
….always set off by metallic clutches, waist cinching belts, and the occasional statement necklace. While she tends to stick to a solid color palette, she does love her patterns, and rocks everything from snake skin to florals with flavor and pinache:
While Ms. Patton may have a thing for prints, nothing can top her affinity forruffles! You’ll see her in dresses in black and white, covered in frothy flourishes that highlight her indisputable femininity:
And for casual commitments, she goes for girly opting for short skirts and ruffle tops, accented with boyfriend blazers and black sandals:
Super cute!
If you want a Paula Patton essence, go for these fun frocks and heels:
Hey Bombshells!
So since I’ve been back in the States, I’ve been able to bone up on some of my favorite reality TV shows. One of my guiltiest indulgences is the Real Housewives of Atlanta, which follows the hijinks and drama of Sheree, Nene, Kim, Lisa, Kandi, and sometimes Dwight:
With their disposable income and leisurely lifestyle, of course these ladies have time to dress themselves in their own distinct ways! Let’s take a look:
Nene, the “tell it like it is” ATL honey, loves to wear cute tops with frills, stones, and embellishments transitioning into floor grazing maxi dresses for daytime engagements.
For a night on the town, you’ll find her in anything from blazers and jeans with cascading necklaces to plum colored frocks in A or straight lines:
The fashionista of the group Sheree makes her mark in bright colors, rocking stone-encrusted halter tops, draped cocktails over tights, and off the shoulder blouses with jeans.
The certified diva never leaves home without a large pair of shades, statement bag, and a swagger that says, “Who gone check me boo?”:
Laid back Lisa has certainly stepped her style game up this season, going for bold in large ruffled tops, mustard capes, and figure flattering dresses.
While she can rock a mean pair of pumps, she certainly cherishes her down time, wearing patterned hoodies or t-shirts with simple jeans and sneaks for kick back days:
Kim, the Big Poppa lovin’ blonde, keeps it saucy in skin tight ‘fits with blingin’ diamonds and gold hoops.
The buxom Southern Peach typically flaunts her bust in low cut or strapless frocks that showcase her girls, or top and bottom combos that highlight her hour glass frame:
The newest member of the cast Kandi goes for splashy with a crimped and curled up do that complements her layered necklaces and accessories.
She generally sticks to black and white, and accentuates her small waist with belts, tailored vests, and blazers.
What do you think of RHOA style?
Smootches!
PS Just for fun, this clip never gets old:
Today I decided to take a look at consummate arm candy and budding fashionista…
…Amber Rose!
Say what you want about her short haircut, questionable past, or around the way girl swagger, this future model has been making her fashionable rounds, wearing some of the best pieces–period. Let’s take a look!
When Ms. Rose drops in to fashion shows with style connoisseur Kanye, she makes her mark in coordinated spandex outfits that pop in pink, red, or skin skimming black…
…almost always topped off with a sick pair of shades and clutch.
For red carpet events, she trades in the pants, favoring dresses with long or short hems, finished off with a bright lip and Blue Steel stare:
When she’s out of the spotlight Amber lets it all hang out, going for comfort in her traditional spandex or opting for a pair of easy shorts:
Wherever she goes, she always stands out–perfect for an outstanding up and coming style star.
