Now that the weather has actually recognized we’re in December, I’m sure our 65 degree days are behind us (well, at least here in NYC). Which means mean old winter will be creeping up on us soon trying to wreck our beauty game. To combat dryness, chapped lips, watery eyes, and more, here are five beauty savers to store in your beauty bag.
1. Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Skin Protectant ($17). This multitasking ointment can help soothe severe dry, chapped, and even cracked skin on the lips and body, virtually eradicates ash on elbows and knees, can tame unruly brows, and can also be used to soften the cuticles. It’s definitely a product you want to carry in your purse to fight anything old man winter throws your way.

2. Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil ($18). Strong, cold winds often make the eyes quite teary in the winter, and the last thing you want is to have liner and mascara streaming down your face. This line of twenty waterproof liners are creamy, easily glide on the eyes and stay put all day. Go with a basic black shade like “Zero” or add an interesting pop of color with a shimmery plum shade like “1999″.

3. A silk or satin scarf. Save your strands from moisture-stealing fabrics prevalent in many of your winter fashion choices like wool. Before you plop on that cute beret or let your hair down on the collar of your wool coat, use a silk or satin scarf as a buffer to protect your tresses.

4. Illamasqua Powder Blusher in Excite ($24). Winter has a way of making the skin look a little lackluster. To warm up your skin and wake up your face, a dusting of this matte peachy coral blush will give a beautiful radiance. The color works on just about any tone of brown skin.

5. Sunscreen. Harmful UVA and UVB rays don’t fly south for winter–instead they linger around getting bitter and take out their frustrations on our skin. Protect yourself from premature aging (the sun’s rays are one of the fastest ways to break down collagen) by applying sunscreen all over the body and reapplying every 3-4 hours particularly if you’ll be near direct sunlight. Don’t forget about sneaky ways the sun can still radiate like through car and office/home windows.
Since high amounts of zinc oxide, an ingredient found in some sunscreens, can often create a greyish cast on skin of color, take a look at eight sunscreens that won’t make you ashy.
