I’ve seen from your various comments that you Bombshells would love to see more eye makeup breakdowns here. I’m more than willing to oblige, but I don’t often see current pics of celebs wearing much eye makeup (seems like folks are opting for bright lips vs elaborate eyes). So if you see some pics of awesome eye makeup, send them in to thefashionbomb@gmail.com and I’ll post the best of the bunch. Deal? Deal!
So this pic of Keri Hilson is a few months old (it’s from the August 2010 Takers premiere), but the eye makeup is still hot and timeless. The colors will work on every skin tone, too. With the focus on the eyes, keep your blush and lip color understated just as Keri has done here.
1. The best eye look with supreme blending won’t look its best if your brows aren’t properly groomed. Check out How to Shape and Care for Your Eyebrows for tips.
2. Whether you do your eye makeup first or your foundation first depends on your comfort level. I personally like to do foundation first so there isn’t any spaces around the eyes that are foundation-less, but I know plenty of other artists who like to do eyes first.
3. To get any eye look to last without creasing, use a primer or base like MAC Paint or Urban Decay Primer Potion. Some folks can even get away with some concealer or foundation (my oily lids can’t…lol).
4. Start with the lighter colors first (unless you have multiple eyeshadow brushes in your stash) so you don’t “muddy” the colors. Apply a cream concealer or matte eyeshadow 2-3 shades lighter than your skin tone in your brow bone area. Be sure to blend. Apply a sheer shimmer gold shadow like MAC Amber Lights in the crease right under the brow bone. Blend using a back and forth windshield wiper motion.
5. Take a dark green with slight shimmer eyeshadow like MAC Humid and apply it to the lid with a blending brush like MAC #224. Blend in a small, tight circular motion. Then take a black with gold shimmer eyeshadow like NARS Night Clubbing (or apply a pencil like MAC Powerpoint Eye Pencil in Buried Treasure and smudge with your fingers or a smudging brush like MAC #214).
Take a gold shimmery eyeshadow like MAC Amber Lights and using either a pencil brush like MAC #219 or the tip of your pinky, dot it in the inner corners of the eyes. This step is especially important if you have smaller eyes—the light shade helps to open them up more.
6. Using a pencil brush, take the gold shadow and line the inner corners of the area right under your lashes. Then using the pencil brush again, line the rest of the perimeter of that area with the green shadow. Line your eyes with a black (waterproof is ideal) pencil like Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil in Zero. Apply 2-3 coats of mascara. Want some extra drama that only lashes can bring?
