• Style Inspiration: What to Wear for a TV Appearance

Reezy writes, “I was chosen as ONE of THREE finalists for a nationwide comedian search for the Today Show. This Thursday, I’ll be on live TV cracking jokes & hopefully win the title of Best Comedian in the…universe. It’s daytime TV so ideally something light, bright and free, any outfit ideas? I’m 24, 5’3, athletic frame and ZERO hips, like none…I’m shaped like a 12 year old boy. 6 MILLION Americans will be watching, so even if I’m not funny enough, hopefully they’ll think I’m too cute to care!”

Go Reezy, go! I actually took a TV hosting class, where we were schooled a bit on the do’s and don’ts of what to wear on camera. My teacher, Patricia Stark, wrote, “Never wear black, white, bright red, tight patterns like houndstooth, tight stripes, dots, or other patterns. You can wear black if you have other colors with it, like a colored scoop neck shirt. You are always safe wearing solid, strong colors. Patterns in general take focus away from your face, where it needs to be. If you are fair, go for strong jewel tones like royal blue, kelly green, dark pink, aqua, etc. If you are medium to dark, jewel tones work for you as well, but you can also do strong pastels. Pick colors that you always receive compliments on when you wear them.”

Since you have a self described ‘boyish’ figure, you can have fun with ruffles, frills, or anything that will add volume to your frame. Create curves with A-lines, peplums, or draping.
This first look kicks off with a strong, solid sheath, like this Tibi Ponte peplum dress, in dazzling blue.

Since you’ll be standing up (I presume), and want to look chic, play up your personality with a pair of punchy heels in a complimentary, solid color. Add a belt for extra waist definition, and keep jewelry to a minimum, save for a pair of small yet head turning earrings. Play up your makeup so you’ll look flawless on camera.

For some reason I have a feeling you’re not quite as conservative as look one portrays, so how about you mix it up with a skirt and shirt combo? Start with this vibrant orange pleated number by Christopher Kane, and accent with a hot pink tank.

Pull it together with a yellow belt, and tone the look down with nude pumps. Complete with fun accents, like lightning bolt stud earrings, and a flourish of lipstick.

And if you want to go for really laid back yet cute, a pair of pants will work. Though bright red is frowned upon, a more subdued crimson, like this Vivienne Westwood Anglomania Popcorn asymmetric stretch-jersey top, will certainly pop on camera. Play with colors with a pair of high waisted pants with a slight flare, like this option by Alice + Olivia:

Complete with nude or white pumps (yes, white), and small gold earrings.

Good luck, Reezy! And if you guys want to see Reezy twirl on TV, she’ll actually be on the Today show this Thursday around 9am. She says, ” If you miss the show, I’ll have the video on my YouTube page eventually: www.youtube.com/MsReeezy.”
    I’ll try to tune in!
*In addition to the tips above, Patricia Stark says, “Keep jewelry to a minimum. Don’t let anything distract attention from your face. If you want to glam it up or go for a hip look, try and achieve it with your hair, makeup, and clothing, rather than lots of jewelry items. If you wear glasses, make sure they’re non glare. Keep it simple. Clean lines.”
