Cate writes, “I really need your help please! Im going to LA in June to meet the parents of my beau and need some inspiration for bright, summery sophisticated outfits that will suit my curvy figure. Help me please!!”
Hey Cate! This is a super big deal, but don’t fret, we got you. Of course the obvious advice is to err on the conservative side, but you can of course show off your personality with bright colors and a smattering of prints.

It’s always good to have a maxi skirt on tap, and I love what Tibi has for this spring.

Pair your maxi with a white tank and flat sandals. Slip on a jean jacket if it gets chilly, and add even more interest with a bold colored clutch:

Get even more maxi skirts at varying price points here:

If you’re catching a quick lunch, a blazer and jean combo always works. Give the look a spring twist with white jeans, a gray tee, and yellow blazer:

Pop on a pair of simple heels and a black statement bag. Add a fun flourish, like a Hermès belt, if you really want to floss. Get the look above for a splurge or steal here:

Lastly, I love the idea of a shirt dress. They’re simple and casual, somewhat conservative, and perfect for a summer meeting:

Pair with flats or wedges for the parents, but keep a pair of cute heels in your bag in case you and your beau decide to peel off afterwards for a date night alone:

That does it!
Which look would you rock?

  1. @uh huh shades are aloof if you’re sitting outside/ in the sun? Ridiculous. Love all three, would probably go with option 2, it’s so my style!

  2. One of my favorite segments of Fashion Bomb. Claire I could totally see you with your own show on the style channel.

  3. Love Love Love these choices! I’ve been wanting/looking for a pleated maxi and jean jacket for this summer. This is a great help! Thanks for these posts!

  4. I love these suggestions. You never know someone’s family until you meet them. I think these outfits leave a good impression without being pretentious.

  5. yes you can def get these looks for less, go to zara.com they have cheaper maxi skirts that look similar to that for like $50-70,and cheaper blazers, short sun dresses & white jeans… topshop.com also has a good amount of denim jackets for less..

  6. All three are winners! Appropriate but still fashionable and shows lots of personality at the same time.

  7. I want to say this in the nicest way possible. I love Claires style ON HER. Please oh please let a few of the interns post their suggestions in the what to wear style selections, because everything screams Claire. I need to see something different.
