Tracy Reese’s Fall 2015 RTW collection was a vibrant ode to comfortable chic with a twist of tech boompow. Increasingly, fashion runways have become the launching pads for technology gadgets of all kinds — anybody remember Google Glass?
In a nod to the audio accessory we treasure most dear, Tracy Reese enhanced a majority of her looks with pairs of graphic Monster mega-headphones. Attendees from actress Vivica A. Fox and author Susan Fales Hill to acclaimed ballerina Misty Copeland and stylist extraordinaire Ty Hunter were all ears for Reese’s latest offering at the ArtBeam in New York.
To me, there were clear winners from this collection, including the matching all-white and all-black leather ensembles upgraded with zippers and the metallic piped dresses in thin-strapped and long-sleeved varieties. Unto themselves, they commanded attention and felt fresh amidst a sea of houndstooth, poncho knits, and sequins.
Models flaunted tight bantu knot up-dos that emulated Reese’s own hairstyle and felt futuristic at best. The underlying current was that these pieces were for a modern woman with no qualms about feeling comfortable in her clothes.
Of course, there’s nothing like seeing a show front row, but feeling the energy of the backstage is a wholly different proposition. The atmosphere was celebratory as makeup artists and stylists ran back-and-forth, making last minute adjustments.
