For Fall 2013, Rachel Roy trades out her formal presentation setting for a digital runway show, trying something new for the season. Controlled opulence is the theme for the collection — the kind of over-the-top luxury that can still be digested and which Roy herself prescribes to. Including mixed prints, metallics, and rich textures, she simply sticks to her signature aesthetic of functional yet elegant pieces that work beautifully, whether for the office or play.
The season’s signature knits are given a fun spin with swirl print detailing, sparkling metallic yarn, and baroque-inspired patterns. They serve dual purposes when paired with sheer velvet printed pencil skirts and contrast chevron-striped trousers, achieving perfect day-to-night ensembles.
Leather makes a mandatory appearance on functional short-sleeve tops and an even more wearable black over-the-knee length pencil skirt. If you cannot find a way to work these pieces into your wardrobe, then you had better hold off shopping until Resort.
Outerwear takes shape in the form of football-esque embellished shoulder bomber jackets, zip-front velvet panel styles giving baroque a modern spin, and more.
Trousers reign supreme and are some of my favorite pieces in the collection. How can any stylish woman deny a high-waist wide leg pair with swirl embroidery or royal purple velvet pants with laser-cut detailing? The brand focuses on separates which are really the foundation pieces for any gal’s ideal wardrobe.
Roy outdoes herself on red carpet-ready wear from modest-length laser cut frocks to an embellished-shoulder pintuck gown in a similar shade. I am certain that fans of the brand including Solange Knowles and Angela Simmons already have their eye on these looks for their next glamorous event.
