Rachel Comey’s diehard fans were surprised to see just a handful of printed looks in her very serious and pared-down Fall 2012 collection, but those same aficionados surely rejoiced at the sight of her Resort 2013 line which featured a slew of different patterns. The season calls for bold and bright ensembles and those were in abundance, in functional silhouettes from First Lady-esque knee-length sheaths to a menswear-inspired suit.
One of the best prints in the collection was a pink floral pattern which showed up everywhere including a two-piece retro bikini layered under a printed shirtdress, a short suit paired with black leather booties, and a ruffle-hem dress for those whose style is more conservative.
Denim made the biggest dent in the designs, for those who like the textile. Collarless jackets, pleated cropped pants, knee-length wrap skirts, two-tone oversized tops: no variation was left untouched, adding an easy and relaxed vibe to the collection.
Comey intends to carry over leather from Fall to Resort with a knee-length skirt, peplum top, and sleek leather jacket.
Rachel Comey’s whimsy and quirky sensibility has returned! In an industry full of bodycon silhouettes and sexed up style, I always find her collections very refreshing and cool. Comey never presents anything that isn’t wearable and the great part about her designs is that you can mix and match effortlessly, adding more dimension to your wardrobe.
