The ’90s are having a moment right now– everyone from Saint Laurent’s Hedi Slimane to DKNY looking to the decade to inspire their collections. We can add Sarah Burton to that list of designers– for this year’s McQ Alexander McQueen resort offering, she channeled the spirit of ’90s London punk rockers, capturing the essence of youthful rebellion.
Jumpsuits were in ample supply, as well as dark, tailored separates, created with menswear silhouettes in mind. Smart pants festooned with D-ring fastenings, blazers with touches of leather, and crisp blouses were the look. Graphic arrow prints covered everything from a loose-fitting sweaterdress to a pair of relaxed-fitting periwinkle pants.
Mix-and-match dotted separates softened the collection’s rough edge, giving the McQ customer a few work-appropriate options.
Burton certainly captured the punk vibe without being too heavy handed. I love the bad girl feel to many of these looks– perhaps Baddiebey might return for a twirl in one of those jumpsuits!
