Show Review: Julien David Fall 2014

It was all about streetwear for Julien David this season, with an emphasis on black and meticulous attention paid to fabrication on marked sporty silhouettes including easy t-shirts, functional track pants, and on-trend sweatshirts. Most designs had an effortless slouch sometimes offset by drawstrings for an added dose of athletic-inspired chic.

The lineup’s clean cuts were uplifted by its abundance of textures, which David employed with full force. Wearable varsity jacket and skirt combinations were given edge with burnt leather, while cozy wool radiated warmth on chubby coats.

The accessories on display were definite head turners including flatforms with fuzzy panels and equally cozy hats that were a fun cross between a snapback and bucket hat. We all know Rihanna loves statement-making headgear, thus I wouldn’t be surprised to see her in the aforementioned soon. Intricately-coiled necklaces fulfilled the jewelry quota and the models’ braided updos lent a feminine touch to the collection.

David’s wire-fringed pieces presented the best red carpet options: shimmering and shaking in shades of navy, purple, turquoise, silver, and jade. One gown used over six kilometers of thread and took over 24 hours to make, yet one would never know it from its uncomplicated yet vibrant appearance. Mommy-to-be Ciara will surely gravitate toward one of these modern-day flapper designs post-pregnancy.
