Show Review: Hervé Léger Resort 2015

The bandage dress needs no introduction or explanation. At this point, it has become a sultry status symbol — well if it’s designed by Hervé Léger that is. It has been reworked and re-imagined time and time again by the brand itself and other high-end lines, down to fast-fashion brands for mass consumption. That begs the question: how can Lubov Azria spin the classic for another season? Well, she somehow managed to do so with colorful weaving, graphic embroidery, and some fringe detailing for movement and depth.

All eyes are on Rio right now, thus the brand picked the Brazilian city for its inspiration. The influence beamed through in vibrant hues, loads of sex appeal, and swimwear for a dip in the pool or the ocean.

Studs gave edge to dresses, skinny trousers, and sweaters that featured calligraphy-inspired prints.

It wasn’t all about bodycon: knits had a moment in the form of colorful embroidered sweaters. A slightly cropped version paired with a striped pencil skirt could actually work for the office with an oversized blazer, while a fringe-detailed number with a matching fringe skirt is a fun way to wear your warmest attire for a night out.

I found the fringe-accented pieces to be the most fun, though not necessarily the most functional. I can definitely see the likes of Nicki Minaj and P!nk in these looks — they are daring enough to try the designs and have the figures to execute them effortlessly.

Hervé Léger has ascended to a level where envelope-pushing and experimentation is no longer necessary — maintaining the brand’s ethos while satisfying its core customers is its model for success. Is it exciting to see a household name step outside of its box and try something new? Yes, but fashion is still a business and this brand is in the business of sexy. I’d say it’s doing quite well.
