New York Fashion Week has begun! First on the line-up is Gryphon with their Fall 2013 collection modeled by Betty Adewole, capturing New York City grit and glamour at its finest. With a focus on tailoring, outerwear, and the season’s must-have separates, the offerings are predominantly casual with a streetwear-inspired tinge, surely influenced by the fashions of the big city. What speaks to the concrete jungle more than a Yankees fitted cap or a camouflage varsity jacket? Paired with leather combat boots and platform sneakers, designer Aimee Cho is focusing on comfort and functionality, which any woman on-the-go can appreciate.
Cho sticks to the season’s signature color palette with a mix of khaki, navy, army green, raspberry, and other Autumn-perfect shades. Outerwear is a focal point from cropped fur-collar jackets to utilitarian chic coats. Fur also makes a statement on wintry headwear: ushanka styles (trapper hats as we know them) and other Russian-inspired hats that will keep your head and ears warm once the temperatures dip.
Prints uplift double-layered coats, leather-sleeve varsity jackets, blazers, and cropped pants. From plaid to camouflage, the Gryphon woman will have no trouble standing out for Fall.
The collection is edited, but chock full of functional pieces that are sure to be retail hits. Ciara and Serena Williams have worn the brand in years past, so let’s see if they pick up any pieces from the Fall collection.
