Let’s face it: Cushnie et Ochs is not for the faint of heart or the unfit of frame. The brand has been in the bodycon business since its inception, which limits its designs to those who spend a good amount of time in the gym, have naturally svelte physiques, or are models. Carly Cushnie and Michelle Ochs are the best brand ambassadors, creating pieces they’d love and look fantastic in — which is a great and very real starting point for two designers seeking to dress women like themselves. Their Resort 2015 collection stuck with their figure-skimming aesthetic, though a few choice looks stood a chance for women of various shapes.
The sex appeal was turned on and turned quite high with sheer detailing, cutouts, keyholes, and bare midriffs.
Curve-hugging silhouettes were offset by edgy lace-up detailing, sheer sleeves, and exposed décolletage. Punchy tangerine and cobalt gave the looks an added kick.
The brand is looking to make its presence felt in the swimwear arena and leopard print strappy bikinis and cutout one-piece maillots will be sure to do that.
A few looks successfully broke away from the bodycon aesthetic, though make no mistake: attention was still paid to the female form. A cobalt flare dress with a looser silhouette and matching jacket could work for both the office and after hours, while a leopard sheath and long jacket was chic yet refined enough to work for women of varying tastes and style preferences.
With each season, even more celebs flock to Cushnie et Ochs for red carpet dressing and I have a feeling that this collection will garner even more fans of the brand. A tangerine halter gown with sheer insets and delicate pleating could be a knockout for a movie premiere and a cute little keyhole mini dress with cargo pockets could be given cold-weather edge with a leather jacket and booties. Let’s see whether or not LaLa Anthony, Shay Mitchell, Solange Knowles, or Sophia Bush is the first lady to don a piece from the assortment.
