Christopher Raeburn named his latest collection for Pre-Fall 2014 “Polaris”: making us all stateside wonder whether or not he is psychic given the polar vortex sweeping through a good portion of the United States right now. All arctic everything was on the menu, with a selection heavy in outerwear and cozy knits.
Function is always high in whatever Raeburn offers up, though style is never sacrificed. The palette here was subdued with navy, army green, and ash, though pops of yellow were injected into the designs.
The brand excels in deconstructed and repurposed design and this collection was no exception. Raeburn gave a new spin to the coats of Siberian officers, turning them into shaggy fur bombers and coats: though these pieces are made for the boys, I can easily see a slew of stylish women coveting these (myself included).
Parkas are perfect for transitional dressing and they were served up here in both short and long lengths, reimagined from the vintage sleeping bags of German military soldiers.
The arctic tundra is the home of the polar bear, thus the furry animal was given its time to shine on knits and bomber sleeves for a whimsical twist.
I can definitely see stylish men like Jay-Z, Kanye West, and Lebron James in these poignant and well-crafted designs. My favorite pieces in the collection were the relaxed, yet totally wearable pants: some with contrast-stripe detailing for an athletic-inspired spin and others with leather exposed pockets for a modern edge.
