Blue was the starting and ending point of Maria Grazia Chiuri’s inspiration for Dior’s Fall 2017 collection. The designer was inspired by this famous quote from Christian Dior in A Little Dictionary of Fashion: “Among all colors, navy blue is the only one which can ever compete with black, it has all the same qualities.” The moody hue rendered itself in a slew of chic iterations of the signatures the iconic French fashion house has become synonymous with.

Leather berets accented each look: equal parts classic Parisian style and the emblem of the resistance.

Hemlines were long and waists were cinched for a healthy dose of retro-inspired flair, though ensembles were often anchored with leather combat boots for that tough edge.

The house’s takes on timeless denim felt fresh and functional including boyfriend fits, classic cuffs, wide legs, adorable overalls, and pairings with practical pieces like tie-waist hoodies.

Checks and a magical, celestial print rounded out the collection’s patterns on cozy double-breasted coats, thigh-grazing skirts, wearable trousers, and charming velvet frocks.

This was one of the most approachable Dior assortments I’ve ever seen. The drama was still there, but pieces like fur capes and chunky knits felt like the kind of pieces any woman would like to own, no matter her style proclivities.

Rihanna, Diane Kruger, and Emma Watson are all fans of the brand and they will absolutely be wearing the collection’s sheer, flirty dresses in the coming months. A ruffle neckline design with a transparent skirt could absolutely speak to the Bajan’s beauty coquettish side and a blue sequin frock would be the perfect piece for Watson’s Beauty and the Beast promo tour.
