Show Review: Altuzarra Resort 2013

Though Resort is full of bold prints and beach-ready fabrics, Joseph Altuzarra took the less beaten path of designing a collection for the season that is actually wearable in real-time, during the months of November and December. Though the eye-catching patterns are still there, the designs are a mix of safari-inspired styles and classic femininity: not a far cry from his Fall 2012 collection, still boasting his expert craftsmanship and CFDA Swarovski Award-worthy tailoring.

Further pushing the desire for his customers to shop in real-time, Altuzarra presents a slew of outerwear options from long capes to striped trenches.

The real fun starts when prints and textures are mixed: stripes and ikat patterns, silks against tweeds, and so much more.

My favorite looks in the collection showcase Altuzarra’s quirky plays on classic femininity with cascading ruffles, bustiers adding a sexy flair to structured designs, a peplum pantsuit, and belts cinching waists wherever possible.

Joseph Altuzarra is a young designer, but with each season he is showing his design prowess and is quickly building one of the strongest and most consistent brands in the industry. The women who wear his clothes are both the young and cool fashion set, as well as the more established women, who are searching for both office-appropriate looks and dresses for special events. This makes his plight with each collection rather difficult, but it is clear that he is up for the challenge and this is one of the most functional offerings he has ever presented, though very mature. Like any accessory-obsessed woman, I am of course in love with his shoes for the season: the open-toe tassel booties are definitely going to be my Resort splurge.
