Hey!

So I was on AOL Black Voices and stumbled across an article about a new brand of Oprah certified jeans called CJ by Cookie Johnson:

Cookie Johnson Jeans

The brand, described as, “The perfect jeans for real women with real booties,” was created in collaboration between Magic Johnson’s wife, Cookie, and Michael Glasser, founder of Seven For All Mankind, Citizens of Humanity, and Rich & Skinny. Ranging in price from $140-$200, the jeans have lots of fabulous stretch, and go from a size 2-18.

The comments on the post exploded, as most women said that $140+ was way too much to spend on jeans. They maintained that you could get the curvy denim look for less with more affordable PZI’s. It made me think: what kind of jeans do you guys prefer?

I’ll admit, I was a slave to Seven for all Mankind for a long time–I loved their cool whiskered materials and ample stretch! But as I threw out my favorite pair most recently thanks to a completely rubbed away thigh area, I had to reconsider those $150 + expenditures. I just bought a pair of Hudson jeans, but they’re pretty pricey too…my little sister swears by Forever 21 denim, but I’m not sure.

What works for you?

  1. I love Bebe jeans. I am 5’9 so most jeans end up way to short. But with bebe jeans i end up having to wear heels so they dont drag

  2. My side gig on the weekends is Express and at first I was like nope never me in Express Jeans and now I really like them. Thier Zelda and Stella jeans fit me perfect….but I do Love Joe Jeans also

  3. i recently bought some bdg brand jeans from urban outfitters…then i went back for 2 more! i love this brand, they fit snug, are not too short (i have looong legs), and are under 60 bucks. when i do splurge on joe jeans or hudson, i only buy from filene’s or marshall’s…

  4. I wear Joe’s Jeans but they tend to stretch too much. I also wear Citizens but am constantly looking for the ever elusive perfect jean.

  5. Has anyone purchased a pair PZIs? They aren’t carried in local stores, but I’ve been interested in them for some time now.

  6. I actually love the way baby phat jeans fit on me. They have the room in the bootie with the little waist. I just have to find the ones that don’t have too much embellishment.

  7. I’m with your little sister…surprisingly I found 3 pairs of $10 jeans..YES $10 from Forever21…the stretch is what works…I even bought a pair of jean leggings with elastic waist. Sounds crazy, but the fit:)
of course I had to hem them all being that I’m 5’1″

    try it!!

  8. Have never found the perfect pair, still looking. Right now I’m loving my always skinny jeans from the gap.

  9. yeah i like my real straight from gap right now, too. they only come in one wash, though so that sucks. i’m trying to get some cute ones that cost less than 50 bucks, though.

  10. J Brand jeans fit me perfectly, but those are definitely a splurge. I like Levis and the store Zara has nice fitting jeans as well. Don’t sleep on Forever 21 either!

  11. I usually wear Paige Premium denim, but I’ve recently purchased a pair of J Brands and Blank Denim and both pairs aren’t bad.

  12. Well being that I am a college student on a budget, I am forced 2 buy cheap jeans so I go 2 forever21 for my jeans and I must say, even if I wasn’t on a budget I would still buy jeans from forever21 because they are fab:-)….

  13. My favorite pair are from GAP and they haven’t failed me yet.
2nd fav are Levis; again no issues.

  14. forever 21 is the business. great fit for girls with or without curves. cheap price. what more can u ask for? jenna pearle @ passionistaplace.blogspot.com

  15. Paper Denim & Cloth for my skinnies/great intense dark denim, Anlo and Joe’s for wide legs/trouser jeans, and I gotta go w/ my Calvin Kleins for the retro fits!

  16. GUESS JEANS ARE THE BEST! You would think a European jean may not fit black women correctly, but i’m 5’6 and have hips and booty and those jeans fit great. They have ample stretch and the look great! I don’t wear any other jeans!

  17. Gap jeans are the best, for me at least… and true religion jeans always look good too, but are pricey.

  18. Paper Denim & Cloth fit great, but they are a bit pricey. Old Navy and American Eagle Outfitters make a great pair of jeans that’s way more economical.

  19. i was a slave to the Gap but have since discovered forever 21. i love their fit and price!

  20. With my pronounced rear end, I need jeans that fit perfectly & Mavi does just that! The other brands (Guess, True Religion, J Brand, Miss sixty) they don t think of us curvy girls. They just make jeans for flat-butted girls. No offense but it s true..

  21. J brand is comfortable and well made you have to get the curvy ones…got em for like 89 on sale at off 5th …I also like Joes the Honey cut for curvy girls

  22. Oh, I forgot to add that while I love Paper Denim & Cloth, Joe’s Jeans, and Anlo, I always get them up to half-off on sites like Bluefly and Rue La La. I know it’s not totally recession-proof, but I’m still proud to say I’ve never paid more than $75 on quality jeans (that fit me well), including tax and/or shipping.

  23. J Brand!!!! I still love my 7’s and Citizen- but I started to purchase alot of HM fashion denim!!

  24. I have a backside too and j brand, hudson or paper denim cloth wont do it for me. I love little in the middle jeans and Jag jeans. I think everyone should live by truejeans.com they search for jeans for you according to your size and body type. It really works. They will even send you a tape measure in the mail.

  25. Total no-brainer. Hands down, my award goes to 7 for All Mankind. Not only are their styles and washes compatible with every man, woman, man/woman’s lifestyle, but their fit is on an entirely different level. They’re made with a DOW fiber known as XLA 4-way stretch that is more forgiving than my grandmother. Stitched on the label as Lastol, XLA 4-way has kept my 7 for All Mankind jeans in my drawer since high school!
