The stars were particularly busy this weekend at fundraisers and even more awards shows in California and Cannes.
Let’s take a look at the high and low lights, shall we?
In Cannes, a few of our fave hip hoppers made it out for the NRJ Music Awards at the Palais des Festivals. Pharrell debuted a new ‘stache to offset his typical layered steeze and accented his ‘out of the box’ look with a pair of moonboot like Nikes. I love Pharrell like cooked food, but this look gets a big ol Hmmmm from me. The unibomber look is very 2009. Better luck next time!
“Can Do No Wrong” Rih Rih rocked the red carpet in a sheer, backless, floral Jean Paul Gaultier Couture Gown with a silver cut away train. Though the look seems a bit dressy for the event (reference Pharrell’s choice), she lived up to her fierce proclivities with this different yet lovely choice. Hot!
Kelly Rowland looked radiant at the Cannes Festival in a multicolored thigh skimming frock with matching green bow sandals. I defer to Danielle regarding the beauty verdict (not quite sure what’s up with her hairline), but her dress is hot! It’s the perfect length, and the vibrant color undoubtedly matched the energy of the proceedings. Get it Kelly!
Hitmakers the Black Eyed Peas also dropped into the French ceremony, with the guys will.i.am, apl.de.ap, and Taboo in textured black and Fergie shining in a divalicious blue sequined dress with a back cutout ‘down to there’ and a slit ‘up to there.’ The Bombshell held her own and managed to shine in the midst of her man heavy band. Hot!
Over in NYC, Mary J Blige sang her heart out for Haiti, wearing a close cut strong shoulder black dress with detailed ruching in the front. Her daring statement necklace definitely brought an already fabulous dress to the next level. Two thumbs up for a consistently Hot! R&B siren.
Jennifer Hudson also looked svelte in black, accenting a jersey dress with a wide gold waist cinching belt and sheer black stockings. Though simple, the look is elegantly hot for J Hud. Work!
Rihanna and Beyoncé also joined the star studded line up in all black to mourn the losses in Haiti. Rihanna stuck to her bad girl style in a short leather outfit and pointy toed Louboutins, and Beyoncé bedazzled in a signature catsuit and embellished jacket. Hot for Rihanna, if not a little short, but hmm, can Beyoncé see with those bangs?
Wyclef Jean was also in attendance, mobilizing his powerful celebrity friends to help with his efforts to help Haiti. He represented his native land with a cool scarf in the colors of the Haitian flag. Proactively helping a worthy cause and raising funds is unquestionably hot. Great job Wyclef.
Over in California, actors and actresses gathered for the Screen Actors Guild Awards at the Shrine Auditorium in LA. Perhaps Mariah Carey read a few reviews of her Golden Globes red carpet choice, so decided to stow her–ahem–Globes away for this occasion. She rocked the red carpet in an alluring fire red one shoulder gown worn with ruby red chandelier earrings and matching purse. Though I can spy a peek of ‘hmm’ worthy peep toe glitter wedge heels, her hem adequately covers them, so we can ignore. Loving her diamond accents, red nail polish, and swept side do–hot! Also, it seems Nick Cannon took Vuitton’s advice for a slimmer cut pant, and looks dapper in a tux with red handkerchief to match his wife’s steeze. Hot!
Funny Man Tracy Morgan strutted his stuff on the carpet in a smart looking tux with a bowtie and hard bottom shoes. All I can say is I’m glad he only revealed his shirt underneath (versus his tummy) while illustrating his signature ‘shirts up’ move..and his date looks positively lovely next to him.
Golden Globe and SAG Award winner Mo’Nique also looked lovely in a floor length pale pink gown with beaded embroidered details on the sleeves. This look is kind of lukewarm for me. I would have loved to see the leading lady in something more…interesting. This long, simple look reminds me of a nightgown. Hmm…
Lastly, Niecy Nash continues to wow us on the red carpet with her wardrobe choices. First, the grecian candy pink dress for the People’s Choice Awards, now this black and white number with yellow accents. This is certainly a step up from her past days of rocking her signature flower hair decoration, but hmm..is it just me or does this dress remind you of a glorified ‘secretary’ style dress? Not quite sure…
What do you think?
And who was your favorite?
