Hey Bombshells!

So I’ve received quite a few e-mails lately asking us to include more fashion for plus sized women. I took to Twitter to see if any Fashion Bomb followers would be up for guest blogging, and the fabulous Christina from www.MusingsofaFatshionista.com volunteered for our first guest post!

She gives us the scoop on how you curvaceous bombshells can incorporate the ‘Rocker Chic’ trend into your wardrobe. Enjoy!

As another fashion week ends, it’s a reminder that it’s time to put away our sundresses and sandals in exchange for heavy knits and boots. One of the trends that will, no doubt, carry over into fall is Rocker Chic. Perfected by starlets like Rihanna and Ciara, this body-hugging look adds a sexy edge to any ordinary outfit.

Ciara Rihanna Rocker Chic

So what do you do if you aren’t even remotely shaped like Rihanna or Ciara?  As a plus sized woman, it’s undoubtedly harder to participate in some of the hottest trends, but it’s not impossible!

In the first installment of “In Our Size,” we break down 5 key pieces of the Rocker Chic trend and give you everything you need to be flyer than the rest!

Key Piece #1: Leather any-and-everything!

Jordin-Sparks-Leather-Vest

The #1 must-have item for this trend is leather and lots of it! During the fall, leather (or pleather if you prefer) jackets become an essential part of many women’s wardrobes because they are so versatile. You can wear it with a t-shirt and your favorite jeans to look effortlessly chic while running errands during the day and then pair it with your classic little black dress for drinks with your girls later on. However, leather is not just for jackets. There are many variations including vests, skirts and shorts so don’t be afraid to branch out and try something new! Below are a few leather items you can add to your fall wardrobe to bring out your inner rock star!

Key Piece #2: Studs galore!

Studs and rock-n-roll go hand-in-hand, you can’t have one without the other. The best part about studded clothes is that it instantly adds an edge to any outfit and when paired with something more delicate like lace or florals, it becomes much more visually interesting. This fall, it seems that studs were put on any and everything from shoes and belts to necklaces, rings, blazers, skirts and jeans. I’ve found that the key to wearing them correctly is to never over do it. Just wearing a striking studded jacket says more than wearing a studded jacket, bracelet, belt and bag. Easily incorporate studded pieces into wardbrobe with the items below:

Key Piece #3: Shoes

Nothing completes an outfit better than a killer pair of shoes. Whether they’re sky-high platform heels or your favorite pair of Chuck Taylors, they make a statement. The good thing is that for this trend, there’s lots of versatility when it comes to footwear. As much as we may like to, not everyone can wear 4 inch heels all day. Here are a variety of shoe options that can add a touch of rock to any outfit.

Key Piece #4: Distressed Denim

Serena-Ripped-Jeans

Ask anyone, nothing is better than throwing on your favorite pair of broken-in jeans and going on about your day. After a while your favorite pair of jeans may start to rip here and tear there. Instead of throwing them out and searching high and low for their replacement, with this trend, the more rips the better! Whether they’re bleached, torn, studded, or cut, there’s tons of room for personality. Below are different ways that you can add this key piece to your closet.

Key Piece #5: Attitude!

The last key piece in the rocker chic trend is also the most important; attitude! This trend is not for the wallflowers, it’s for the girl that is bold in both her style and personality. It is very important to take trends like this one and put your own spin on them. Be inspired by Rihanna, Ciara and everyone else but do not become a carbon copy. People can spot posers instantaneously. Just be yourself and there’s no doubt, you’ll look and feel fly!

  1. This was great!! I’m not even plus-sized but this was so detailed and well written that I will be passing it around to my friends.

  2. Loved it!! The references were perfect! Also, the clothes were cute and sassy not frumpy and cheap looking!

  3. I heart this post. My younger sister is a plus-sized cutie and she is rocking some of the trends mentioned. Much love.

  4. What a great article! I really loved the breakdown of how to get the look, but I especially loved the advice at the end that attitude is going to make or break your outfit. Being fashionable in plus sizes has so much more to do with attitude than with weight. If you are comfortable in your skin, you are always going to look better than someone trying to hide themself and unhappy with themselves and how they look. And trying to pull of Rocker Chic without the attitude is just a fail! Good job on this article.
