Fashion Bomb divas Kelly Rowland and Kim Kardashian have both been spied wearing Nicholas Kirkwoord x Rodarte’s hot hot hot (now sold out) Corroded Brasswood Pumps:

I would cut a b*tch for those shoes…and it seems I would have to with their pricetag of $2,153.
Though alleged cheap shoe devotee Rosa Acosta wholeheartedly supported buying practically priced shoes, I know we’ve all been caught up in expensive shoe lust at one time or another.

There are those fuchsia patent leather Louboutins that you just can’t stop drooling over, or that perfectly studded pair of Brian Atwoods that would go just right with your summer dresses.

Yes, they look lovely and fit your feet just right–but how much would you splurge on a pair of hot shoes if you saw ’em today?

I’ll go first. I believe the most I’ve spent on a pair of shoes would have to be the $300 I shelled out for a pair of red patent leather Kenneth Cole sandals.  I was going to see Andre Leon Talley speak for the first time at the MET and wanted to wow in case I got a 1-on-1. The in person meet n’ greet never happened, but I still have those hot show stoppers (just in case).

What about you?

  1. I paid $400 for a pair of gold leather wedges (with the cork wedge part painted a thick glistening gold, they’re my twitter profile pic @yvahn) on a night when I got stood up for a date (darned NYC and late-closing shops).

of course i subsequently lost one of the ankle straps in a fit of drunken shoe-changing. getting ’em fixed tho. one day.

  2. I think that Kelly Rowland, Kim K., Ciara and La La Vasquez borrow each others clothes and shoes. They are all best friends. This is not the first time I’ve seen either of them pictured with the same item on.

There’s nothing wrong with swapping clothes with your BFF’s!!

  3. I personally feel that the price you pay for shoes should match up with your income bracket. I know a lot of us (myself included) feel faint when we see a celeb stepping out in a pair of $2500 heels, but if they have the funds to do so, is it REALLY that extravagant? If you’re making 7 figures and you want a pair of Louboutins, go for it. If you’re making $25,000 and can barely make the payments for rent, I suggest you re-evaluate your priorities.

P.S. I think the most I’ve spent on a pair of shoes was around $250.

  4. i believe the most i’ve spent was $300 as well. i don’t think there’s a need to spend more then that when there’s sample sales, vintage shops, and moderately priced, great looking shoes.

  5. For me it’s $400 for my D&G Patent Peep Toe Bootie that I brought on sale for my b’day two years ago. Every fashionista needs a peep toe bootie ;-)

  6. The most I have spent on shoes was $200. I love getting a deal on shoes…so if I see a shoe I must have, I wait until it goes on sale. If it goes on sale and my size isnt available, I take it as a sign from God that I didnt need them anyway.

BTW, I think that the recession has hit celebs pockets as well. With the exception of celebs with long money (ie, Beyonce), I think most of them rent designer shoes and return them when they’re done. If you stay on the celeb gossip blogs, then you know when they purchase their shoes b/c they will wear them multiple times to multiple events.

  7. I would say no more than $350 especially when there are so many fab designers (LAMB, Charles David) that don’t cost a mortgage payment. There’s no reason to spend a stack on shoes when you don’t have it like that.

  8. $800 has been my limit & I “think” it’ll remain, even as my income rises.
“think” = w/ boots I may give into spending more. :)

  9. I totally agree with Fabulously Me…I can’t see more than $350-$400, and I mean they would have to be SERRIOUSLY one of a kind HOT. What really is the point in spending more, there are SO many HOT shoes, and most average $120. Unless you’re a star, with star money, and who is making a statement for the fans,it serves no purpose. Even as a celeb,I doubt I would regularly indulge in over-priced fare

  10. The most I’ve spent is $250 on a pair of Stuart Weisman yellow sandals, that I have yet to wear. I don’t think I will go over $300, as esme says with sample sales and vintage stores are. These celebrity do get stuff to borrow from designers and each other, so more power to them. And if they bought them we would see them wearing it multiple times like Megan Good… :)

  11. I wish I could afford shoes that cost that much, lol. But my time will come. Until then, bakers, aldo and macy’s will be go to stores. I wear what I can afford.

  12. My limit is $200, I purchased a pair of YSL sandals from ebay.. I love to drool over the designer shoes, but I stay in my lane. My fav desingers are , Michael Kors, Steve Madden, and Jessica Simpson..

  13. amen @HopelessRomantiK, i have had my Carrie Bradshaw moments, but then reality hits. i got babies to feed! call me cheap but i’ve never spent more than $200

  14. The most I’ve spent (to my knowledge) is $800. I love all types of designers but I also have some low cost shoes that I love DEARLY! I even have a fab vintage Bally’s pumps that I purchased BRAND NEW off of eBay for $12.

I feel like eversince the Louboutin invasion, shoe designers have been turning cheap tricks and shoes in general into a gimmick. Those shoes that Kelly and Kim are wearing are ugly as hell to me. I don’t give a damn what name they are, ugly is ugly. But these designers seem to think they can throw a few studs/gems/metal hardware etc. on a shoes and slap a crazy price on it. I’m SO over it.

And to be honest, my expensive designer shoes I BARELY wear. They are only for a night out on the town which to be honest I rarely do. So my new thing is to NOT purchase shoes that I can’t throw on whenever or where ever. Especially if they are uncomfortable which unfortunately for me, many of them are, AND I’m spending money that I prefer go to my savings acct (yes I do have one, lol).

  15. The most I have spent was around 300. On the average I spend at least between 75-120 a pair, I love shoes , I think they can bring something to any outfit and I dont see anything wrong with splurging every once and a while.

  16. Ok this post and comments are amazing. But I’m more focused on the fact that Kelly Rowland and Letoya Luckett took a pic together. Super *blank stare*

And also, the most I’ve spent is like $100 on shoes. I’m not balling so I can’t spend mad money on shoes. Also I agree with @Brooklynlady ugly is ugly no matter who designs it and what it costs.

  17. Great topic. The most I have spent is about $60. But I think the max I can spend is $150 ish (which will probably be on something versatile like winter boots that can last for a while). My logic is that shoes especially designer ones, go out of style. So in a year or two, they are no longer cute or fashionable.

But to each his own. Buy what you want and ROCK IT. But don’t go bankrupt trying to look cute. Pay your bills first and then use that disposable income on some shoes. LOL

  18. $1,090. on Alexander McQueen’s military canvas boots. They were recently seen on Beyonce after coming back from Coachella.

I am so in love with them and were so worth the splurge. <3 When I don't wear them, I keep them in the original packaging, plastic wrap and all.

  19. The most I’d spend is $600. I think basic Louboutins are a wise investment. Think about it, you’ll always need a black pump or a nude pump. You might as well get one that will last a lifetime instead of spending $600 over the years buying new pairs. I wouldn’t spend more than $100 for a trendy shoe.

  20. I agree with lovethissite! I also have a great pair of Louboutins, which are the most expensive shoes I have. I usually purchase get at least one really nice designer shoes a year. I also love love love Zara for trendy, inexpensive shoes.

  21. The most I’ve ever spent on a pair of shoes was $200 and they were a pair of black knee high boots. I had seen them in a shoe boutique originally for $600 which was definitely out of my price range. I had dreamt about those damn boots… so you know that’s serious… lol. Anyway, months later they had one pair left and it was in my size! It was fate they had marked them down, so I had to get them. I’m not familiar with the brand, but they are italian made boots. Anytime I wear them, heads turn. I will be buried in those boots… lol.

  22. The most I have ever spent on shoes was $150 for a pair of leather Marc by Marc Jacobs heels. I bought those two years ago and still wear them today. I also bought a pair of boots for around $150 when I was an exchange student in high school, and still wear those today (but not as often after the stupid family maid shoved them in the closet and dented them with the door >:(…luckily I’ve had them for 5 years now so they’ve had a good run).
The average price I spend on shoes would be around $30. ^___^
I just ordered 3 pairs of Keds for $10 each (using coupon codes and sale prices) of JCP, and a beautiful pair of Betsey Johnson heels of Smartbargains (using email-only promotions and code) for only $35.
I agree that shoes should depend on your budget, but I don’t think I’ll ever spend more than $300 on shoes. Once I graduate Uni, I’ll save up and spend 90% of my take-home salary on paying off my $25,000 in student loans off. Then I will invest in my company I want to start…
Once I’m a multimillionaire, maybe then I’ll splurge (but only on LV shoes :P).

  23. ps: I should clarify that by family maid, I meant the HOST families’ maid!
I could never afford one myself…and after my experience with that bi*ch I never want to. :P
