It’s been a bit of a slow week here on the The Fashion Bomb, but we’re going to kick start the year in earnest with the first Bombshell of 2013, Nicolette from Maryland:

She writes, “I would describe my style as: A Colorful Classy Splash of Vintage Freshness.”

“…The 80s and 90s era inspires my style. Many clothes during the 80s and 90s era had structure, shapes, and were also very bright and colorful.”

“I am Nigerian-American and get inspired and wear a popular African cloth called “Ankara””

“I always wear vibrant and colorful clothing.”

” My outgoing personality also reflects this “bright and colorful” sense of style that I have.”

“I get 98% of my clothes from a thrift or vintage store and I usually wear clothes people do not see in a popular store or mall.”

“Two famous people I look up to,fashion wise: Janelle Monae & Rihanna.”

  1. When I first saw the Pics with the long hair, I thought she´s Azealia Banks for a minute lol

  2. I hate any pictures in the bathroom, especially with the toilet showing. But I loved her imagination with fashion!

  3. Not that excited about her style. It’s okay to me a little redundant especially the shoes.

  4. She has room to grow fashionwise. Keep at it. and LOOSE the wig. I mean SOLANGE was voted fashionista of the year on this site.. if nowhere else i would encourage my fellow black women to post with YOUR natural hair, permed, relaxed, not relaxed.. i think it looks better.. and most of all, it will be embraced.. lol *this is a safe place***…

  5. The weave/wigs are not a good look for her. She looks beautiful with the natural looks. Pretty girl and her style is her style not my cup up of tea

  6. “This is a safe place” on so many levels. Pretty girl, okay style.

It’s not my style but several of her outfits really suited her and she described her approach well: mixing Western vintage with West African textiles. She did that.

And dip-dyed hair was all the rage in ’12 (according to VibeVixen you’ll see more in ’13), she decided to keep a current trend with her unique styling. (Insert Jamaican accent) Leave ‘er.

  7. Her natural hair is BEAUTIFUL. The wig looks flamable though :-/. I am impartial to her looks, but think she’s a beautiful girl!

  8. The blue printed blouse and white pants, and the black shirt and red/orange shorts were her bests for me. I think this style fits her and is safe for her, but she should try other things as well. The wig is an absolute no ma’am.

  9. Very pretty girl! She looks great with the braids and natural hair, but that wig needs to be beaten, burned, then buried. I like her use of color and love the white, white legged pants with the brightly colored shirt.

  10. We all love to dress fashionably and get complemented on how well we carry ourselves. You don’t have to follow someone’s style to be fashionable, just be yourself and everything will fall into right place.

  11. @ Empress: Don’t hate on Nigerians. I’m Nigerian and I actually voted that she is not a bombshell. No favortism here.

The style is just off. Sorry.

  12. She does look much better with her natural hair… there is room to improve…the best pic was the bathroom pic because it seemed like that is really her style… everything else appears forced.

  13. Oh this is the last time I am going to say this. I’m sick and tired and SICK of these little girls wearing leggings as pants. They are LEGGINGS as in get a longer shirt to cover that camel toe. Stop tucking in shirts when you are wearing leggings. I don’t care how small or big you are, it always looks STANK and like a SPEEGLER ! I do like her style because she’s different, the hair is…… Killing some of the looks for me. Feeling the maxi skirt and wide leg pants

  14. This made me slightly detest bold prints… However, her weave was on the leave it in 2009 list(silly length LACEFRONTS)

  15. If you’re going bright on the eyes then all that’s needed on the
lips is a slick of gloss or balm and youre good to go.

From clip in coloured streaks as seen on Katy Perry, to the ravishing
red colours seen on hair chameleons such as Rhianna and
Drew Barrymore, it’s super-seasonal to sport the brights trend on your head as well as your face and nails. However, during the fall and winter months, you will usually see deeper, more earthy tones, like: forest green, Bordeaux wine, and the ever classic: black.
