  1. Nice! Only two looks I didn’t like, #1 with the red gingham top and #3 with the Plaid…Overall, I think she has great style. Very “J-Crew”

  2. Yes, she is definitely a Fashion Bombshell. So glad to see someone representing the kind of fashion that those of us 40 and older can still rock with our own unique sense of style!

  3. Hm…all in all it’s just not my taste, I guess.

But I do like the outfit with the khaki/sequin arm jacket (interesting shoe!) and the one with the jumpsuit and the pink pumps.

  4. Yes! I LIVE for Tarana’s style: it’s fresh, pretty but edgy and, for my age (46), perfect for the way I choose to present myself. I’m a huge fan of SheSlays. WORK, baby. Slay!

  5. I never vote on these, but I love it! You really represent for the 40-somethings! You look fabulous and like you’re really enjoying dressing. That’s all that matters.

  6. To the website host: The categories to agree or disagree with the style are appropriate–everything is not for everybody. However, it is not necessary or appropriate to allow mean spirited comments to remain on the site just because you have indicated: “Comments can be harsh, so bring your A game!” How about changing that to read: “Disrespectful comments will be removed immediately, and your email address will be blocked from future posting.”

  7. Definitely a bombshell. She knows what works for her body. My favorite look was the sparkly sequined sleeved jacket with the geometric heels.

  8. Bombshell!! She’s stylish and graceful. The worst thing is a 40yr old, dressing (and acting) like she’s 20. Hats off to you. Bravo!

  9. She serves!! She looks amazing! When Im forty, I hope Im just as fabulous. I agree with “C” . Please delete and Block THruth. She didnt share her opinion. She shared her stupidity which I didnt care to stumble across.

  10. I’m absolutely appalled by the nasty comments regarding this woman’s face..Why is such nonsense allowed? This is ridiculous that people come to this site for fashion but can be put down by low life cyber bullies. I don’t understand, this is a reputable site, why is this allowed? Comments should either be prescreened or immediately removed and blocked. This is supposed to be entertainment and these people can be demeaning, hurtful and just mean for no reason…it should not be..This woman looks good. She has great style. Comment on her clothes…

  11. I liked the vibrant yellow/blue colours together but personally that’s the only thing that worked for me…*shrug*

  12. LOVE HER!!!!! Very age appropriate and she has class and style… #sheslays #alldayeveryday

  13. Tarana!!!!! You betta #WERK! Love your style–so bold, effortless and fresh. You wear the clothes; they don’t wear you. I loved every single look. Congrats!

  14. OMG!! Tarana, I cant believe its you!!

You ROCK honey, you freakin ROCK!!

and as usual you are/look amazing!!

  15. Hello plaid on plaid!! Mama slayed every fit in this submission! So classy and chic! I love her daring print and color combos! The kicks with her outfits really bring forth her personality. Definitely a well deserved fashion bomb!

  16. I honestly think that @Claire gets kicks out of the mean spirited comments that have now become common place here. These people can say such things Claire because you allow it. This has become a playground for cyber bullies and I’m really over it. I can understand not censoring fashion critique which should be expected if you send in a submission. But to allow people to be just outright ugly on here makes you complicit. If people become afraid and don’t send in submissions, this part of the website dies. And that’s pretty much slashing the followership in more than half. I wont address the trolls any longer because they wont stop on their own. I am addressing you Claire because if you require it, they will stop. Its not enough for you to put up a half assed disclaimer about comments being harsh. There is harsh and then there is just plain mean. This is your site, draw the line. Enough is really enough.

  17. Taran is a fashionista in her own right, and I’m loving it! I’ve definitely gotten inspiration for some work outfits.

HOWEVER, I must say I’m appalled by the vicious and mean-spirited comments towards her. This is supposed to be about taking an objective look at fashion NOT whether or not you feel someone is attractive. Besides, YOU have no right to bring another person down about their looks. Some of you nasty people need to grow up, and take a look at the man or woman in the mirror.

  18. I came on here to comment just to express how disappointed I am in the mean comments! Claire there are people out there who kill themselves after being cyber bullied. More of a reason why I agree with another commenter who thinks the site disclaimer should read “all disrespectful comments will be deleted”. Although there are MULTIPLE people who think she was on point, that one or two may break her, she even mentioned that she had to build courage to submit. Please Claire don’t be silent on this one. Those comments were plain old mean and hurtful! Aside from that, girl you 40+?! No way! You go girl!

  19. Tarana from Philly is Hot! Kaboom! A Fashion Bombshell!

I forgot to cast my vote earlier.

    P.S. Thank you, MS P!

  20. Love! I’m so here for her! I love that she’s representing for those of us over 40. I love her mix of classic pieces in bright hues! Keep doing you!

  21. Keep trying…I’m not impressed. Overall the looks are well put together. But I wouldn’t consider it Bombshell material. Glad she built up the courage to submit, especially since she is often very critical of other bombshells. She definitely isn’t a bombshell but has a lot of confidence…I’ll end with she DIDN’T Slay…try again!

  22. Claire, I completely agree with other commenters that harshly offensive comments should be removed and blocked from future comments. I’ve seen this done on other sites, and it’s very effective for weeding out these immature, low lives like @TRUTH AND @Theone. The irony of it all is that leaving nasty comments like that just shows how terribly insecure they are themselves. It’s pithetic and it shouldn’t be tolerated.

  23. Bombshell!!!! This was a great submission, I really enjoyed her looks. I also am impressed with her ability to make sneakers look so chic!

  24. SWEET MAMA OF CHRIST !
    YES ! She delivered !
Did you say 40 , Oh wow . I love her style, her comments and personality here .
    BOMBSHELL BABY !

  25. Tarana #shutitdown. Few can play with color, texture and shape simultaneously so kudos!

Unsure of what the comments would/could have been and it hopefully won’t omit this submission for consideration when it comes to “Bombshell of the Year” time in December.

  26. Loved almost everything. Glad u worked up the confidence to submit your photos. You kilt it and yes I said kilt!

  27. I’m 41. And I’ve had to actually shift my wardrobe just slightly. It’s been tough to toe that line between dressing my age, (yes, that’s a thing that must be done), and still letting my personality shine through. I know how to get suited up for dressy stuff. But as a stay-at-home-writer who doesn’t do much dress-up stuff, I’m really trying to figure out how to navigate picking up the kids and taking the dog to the vet without pulling on sweats. Ugh. Tarana, great options here on playing with color, patterns and personality. Even when we grown. She slays, indeed.

  28. No, Claire, there is still someone making a nasty comment about her gender in these comments. Please, for crying out loud, protect the people who come for community from the people who come to be cruel.

  29. I change my mind that face is hideous…she should grab a paper bag asap and cut three holes in it and place it over her head.

  30. I like her style. I didn’t think she started out strong, but as the photos progressed you can definitely see the versatility. I love the colors. Great job. Keep it up and ignore any foolish comments.

  31. I love everything about her looks. She looks good for any age. She is well put together and classy. Bombshell.

  32. Wow! What an outpouring of love and positivity. Thank you again @Claire and Fashionbomb Daily for selecting me. I’ll say here what I said on Instagram. I’m so appreciative of the positive feedback and completely expected the negative. I run an organization (www.justbeinc.org) that helps little Black and Brown girls find a sense of self and self worth. These mean spirited and ugly comments are tough to read (not the fashion critiques) but they don’t sit on my spirit because I know where they come from. Being featured on my favorite blog has made my day (really my week!) and I’m savoring that joy.

  33. Ugh @claire..I must say, I agree with @MissP..It does appear that way. Yes, a few of the ignorant comments were removed, but that nonscelant response from You,Claire…Just came off as unbothered that your readers are extremely offended by this nonsense allowed on your site…I mean, nothing more to say?? I mean, these werent even the worst that ive seen on this site…never felt compelled to fix this before? I’ll give you the benefit of the doubt and say that you are preparing to address this properly, As we speak…FINALLY.
Anyway, Miss Tarana came through!! Please ignore these clowns and pray for these fools…it’s clear they’re doing it just to get a reaction. Keep doing it!

  34. @KellieB I peeped that too. Very nonchalant and even dismissive. Like “yea I removed one comment so yall get off my back”. When you’re a high flying fashionista I guess you don’t have time to address concerns of the people who actually make your blog. I’m finally done with FBD. If I want to see shade and meanness, I know where to go. I didn’t come here for this mess.

  35. Tarana just gave me life. Thank you so much for demonstrating that age appropriate style can be spectacular. You are my ultimate style icon. #SheSlays

  36. I honestly can’t believe she’s even in her 40s. Holy, she is aging well! Black don’t crack! I also love how fearless she is with fashion. Her daughters (if she has any) will be lucky to score her old threads. Living for this!

  37. Definitely a personal street style original and BOMBSHELL. I appreciate her face too. I never see faces like hers in fashion magazines though I’d like to, and though she doesn’t look like Nina Simone her persona gives me that vibe (Black, proud, unique, free). I wouldn’t personally wear any of these though I like them. I appreciate that too because it’s HER style. Awesome submission.

  38. I LOVE THIS.

This is the first ever, I’ve scrolled down to say, ‘I love it.’ Beautiful looks on a beautiful woman.

  39. @KellieB and @Tay ‘High Flying Fashionista’ writing in here:
I’ve been running this blog for 8.5 years, and had the Bombshell feature since 2008 at least.
I’ve written posts to address the sometimes catty nature of the comments twice. Once in 2009:
    http://fashionbombdaily.com/2009/08/17/real-talk-a-note-about-comments/
    And again in 2011:
    http://fashionbombdaily.com/2011/01/18/fashion-discussion-should-we-disable-comments-on-fashion-bombshell-of-the-day/
Every time I move to censor comments, everyone begs for them back, so in the end, I let it ride, remove egregiously offensive remarks, and we move on.
Maybe you’re not familiar with the site, but I refuse to write a post addressing comments on Bombshell posts every year. I just write a disclaimer saying the comments can be harsh, something Tarana acknowledged in her submission (“It has taken me more than a year to work up the courage to submit. I’m a regular commenter (FortyistheNewForty) so I know its a tough crowd!”).
People on this site don’t hold back, even when it comes to me, the ‘high flying fashionista.’
Anyway, Tarana, you slay, your response (and looks) were fierce, and I wish we could focus on the fashion and not on a few bad eggs who couldn’t stay on topic.
    XO

  40. She has a very strong genuine face that gives great personality to her style of dress, aging gracefully and with style definitely has its merits. Werk it girl!!!!!

  41. I understand that you cant police every comment. However people shouldn’t be bullied in the name of fashion critique and “going hard”. There’s a clear, defined line between constructive criticism and trying to break someone’s spirit. Unfortunately, a lot of FBD readers have blurred that line and its because you’ve allowed it. It’s not just a few bad eggs. There are many. I can show you more comments on this very post that you missed or haven’t deemed necessary to take down. This has become the platform on which vendettas are settled. I remember a while back, this same Tarana gave her opinion on a fashion bombshell submission. She’s an avid follower and comments regularly but i can attest to the fact that she has never been mean or disrespectful in her commentary even when she disagrees with fashion choices. Do you realize that aside from completely insulting her in the comment section, the friends of that week’s submission sought out her blog and instagram page and continued to assault her verbally even including her daughter? I bore witness to that. Some people obviously cant handle the liberties that you’ve given with this comment section. It’s unfortunate that the bad eggs spoil it for everyone but I would much rather have that over this mess. So i propose that you scrap it and leave a polling section instead. People will not like it but eventually they will comply. Or alternatively, designate someone to moderate the comments. Call to order those who send vile comments and let them know it wont be tolerated and they will get blocked.

  42. @ JOY.. yes it is stuff we see everyday but to me , its that way that she styles it that makes it appealing. I like when a bombshell is relatable and I can see myself being inspired within my own closet. Sometimes we have those fairytale bombshells then we have those round’the way/ every woman bombshells, the mix is refreshing. I just applaud her for representing for the older crew and Im not even apart of it lol.

  43. I’m not a huge fan of her style but appreciate that at 40, she’s rocking out. The only outfit I really liked were the jeans, the khaki jacket and the beige pumps. It’s not that I thought she looked bad, we’re just on different pages.

  44. I love that all the looks were stylish trendy and fun but still age appropriate! Definitely a bombshell!

  45. Ummmmm…Am I the only one who noticed Luvvie comment? lol I see you Luvvie!

Anyway though, I can tell this woman has a true PERSONAL style–as in, she doesn’t follow trends and you can really see who she is shining through her clothes. I loved her look with the yellow top (H&M, I see you boo!! I’ve been eyeing that shirt for like 2 seasons!) blue skirt and blue sneakers. It’s too cute and I’ve been trying to figure out how to begin incorporating sneakers into unique outfits myself (i.e. with a dress/skirt/trench coats).

Plus I like her look with the blazer that had the sequinned sleeves. I don’t always like her shoe choices, but I do like her overall personal style though! Get it girl!!!

    :D

  46. @MISS P “Do you realize that aside from completely insulting her in the comment section, the friends of that week’s submission sought out her blog and instagram page and continued to assault her verbally even including her daughter?”

I also remember this. It’s pathetic. But I like her style. I’d appreciate some different shoe/bag options, but 40 or not, I still voted bombshell.

  47. I love this. I write for a college aged blog, and I always tell my readers that confidence is the best accessory. This Fashion Bombshell definitely has that. She’s using everything she has to complement her style.

  48. I could not be trusted alone in her closets :)! Luv the fact that she does trends in a personal and age appropriate way. I look forward to viewing her blog :)

  49. She DOES have some great gams… This is another fashionista who knows how to accessorize!

  50. Yasss! I’m here for all of this. Shoutout to the Philly jawns holding it down! She did that! #sheslays! She looks polished and every outfit choice is executed with a concerted effort. Brava sista-girl! You did yo thing! Will definitely follow on IG. Congrats!

  51. Lovedddddd everything about her!!!! Loved that she could switch from sneakers to pumps just like that!!! Philly all day!!

  52. @MissP save your breathe.. Claire clearly does not get it! It is quite possible to monitor or pre approve comments before they are posted so that people aren’t being viciously attacked on things having NOTHING to do with fashion. But she doesn’t see it as an issue deserving of her time and commitment, hence the defensive, passive aggressive response.

  53. i love your nose and your skin and your hair, Queen. Your style accessorizes your spitit. <3

  54. she’s been looking in my closet or my head!??? Hoping to one day rep for the 50’s soon!

    Lovely woman!

  55. I Crack up at your comments all the time and usually they’re on point. I’m glad you submitted. *two snaps boo boo* Grown women better werk.
