Last week I had the sincere pleasure of meeting the lovely Melanie Fiona before Black Girls Rock! to find out about a few of her fashion and beauty must haves:

When it comes to designers, she said, [I] love, love, love, the lines of …Alexander McQueen. Nothing fits like a basic black dress by McQueen. I love other designers like Isabel Marant and Mara Hoffman. I love the colors and the lines of Gucci. I think Gucci is a good, classic high end brand that just gets it right.”

A few beauty secrets? For her skin, she says, “I’ve been using Clinique. It helps wash my makeup off, and it’s reasonably priced.” And what about that gorgeous hair?!? She divulged, “Recently I’ve been using Ojon. It’s really good and made of natural nut extract, so it’s really nourishing for the hair. I also love Kerastase. The mask is the absolute best mask I’ve ever used!”
See the full interview here:

Melanie was super sweet and fun! We posed for a couple ‘gangsta’ shots at the end:

I clearly had no idea how to do a good gangsta pose. I tried though. Ha.

At any rate, I hope to keep bringing you more Fashion Bomb TV!

How’d I do?

  1. Go Claire!! Great job on interviewing her and being yourself. I’m glad she talked about her skincare regime because that’s something I’m always n the look out for. Makeup is great, but clear skin sets the tone for that :)

  2. Claire that was such a cute and informative article! where is that white blazer from, i need that in my life! you an melanie looked absolutely fabulous as always! and i have been very tempted to try clinique, now im gonna go for it! thanks for the great interview!!!

  3. i loved melanie fiona until i saw her at essence a couple years ago. she was standing outside the convention center and a couple of us recognized her, so we asked for a picture. she pretended not to hear us and her security told us “she doesnt have time, shes waiting on a car to pick her up.” i was like really? taking a pic takes all of 10 seconds! that left a sour taste in my mouth. especially since she was so fresh in the game and already acting like she couldnt be bothered.

  4. @addikted… maybe she was having a bad day, had just gotten bad news or was simply tired… I think people tend to put WAY too much demand on celebs simply because they’re in the spotlight.

Anyway, Claire, GREAT interview! Her skin is indeed fabulous and her personality comes across well in this interview. Now… PLEASE tell me where you got that jacket… I’m having palpitations here!

  5. @addikted ….I met Melanie at a Private Listening Party, she is amazing, but you also have to remember that she is human too! She can’t automatically turn on because someone wants a picture or to hold a conversation. She is a great person, even though I was there assisting a friend with an interview, Melanie came up to me, introduced herself, complimented my bag, and asked her where did I get it from. We talked about fashion a little more, she is cool in my book, and one of the last singers that actually sings well.

  6. I’m glad you all love Fashion Bomb TV! The interview was great, Claire is fab, and Melanie was fun. Stay tuned for more….signed #ladyvideographer ;)

  7. That was great! I am not particularly a Melanie Fiona fan despite feeling like she definitely has talent, but she has a fun, open personality that shines through. Plus on the beauty front I love that she is not afraid to look fresh and natural. The look right now seems to lean towards a heavy, full face of makeup and while that can look stunning it is nice to see someone let their own beauty take center stage.

And Claire you look wonderful and I LOVE the hair!

  8. Great interview Claire! I’m a huge Melanie Fiona fan and I must say she has a beautiful personality that’s clearly shown in this segment. Also, whoever did the pictures and editing did a wonderful job as well.

  9. The interview was nice but i must say Claire you looked like more of a celebrity then Fiona….your make up was on point *snaps fingers*

  10. a picture is expecting too much? hmmm…thats news to me.
asking for a pic isnt putting too much on a celeb. if they have a problem taking a pic at a public event then they have no business being famous.
dont come to a convention at the essence music festival in new orleans if you’re a celeb and dont want your pic taken or dont want to talk to fans. period.
