  • Misty Copeland has made history as the first African-American principal dancer at the American Ballet Theater. The 32-year-old ballerina said at a news conference at the Metropolitan Opera House, “I had moments of doubting myself, and wanting to quit, because I didn’t know that there would be a future for an African-American woman to make it to this level…At the same time, it made me so hungry to push through, to carry the next generation. So it’s not me up here — and I’m constantly saying that — it’s everyone that came before me that got me to this position.” Congrats, Misty! (BBC; NYTimes)

  • After tapping Maxwell Osbourne and Dao Yi-Chow as the new designers for her DKNY brand, Donna Karan has decided to leave her own Donna Karan label.  The departure will signal a suspension of the main line with many speculating the brand will be soon rolled into DKNY. Karan herself will focus on her Urban Zen company. One has to wonder whether that New York Times interview where she spoke poorly of her relationship with LVMH had something to do with this. • Have you not gotten a chance to see the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s “China: Through the Looking Glass” exhibit? Well you’re getting more time.  The museum is extending the show through September 7th, as the show drew more than 350,000 visitors in the first two months, putting it in the same realm as the “Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty” exhibit. • Dear Marc Jacobs, there is a right and a wrong way to send nudes. Sending them over Instagram is quite generally the wrong way.  The designer learned that rule first hand when he reportedly attempted to send a nude photo through Instagram direct messaging to a follower. Clearly still learning the platform, the photo went into the main stream and was pulled down within a few seconds. But we all know the internet; a screenshot lives on to tell the tale. Of course the link is NSFW. (Gawker)

Adriana Lima, Joan Smalls, Doutzen Kroes and Natasha Poly for H&M

  • Though they are working on collaborations with Carine Roitfeld and Balmain, H&M has another project on the horizon.  The company is reportedly adding a new business to it’s portfolio which will join brands like & Other Stories, COS and Cheap Monday. While it won’t launch until 2017, execs say that it will be nothing like H&M or the brands it already owns. (Bloomberg)

  • The latest athlete to parlay his sartorial success into designs is San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick.  The six-foot five star is releasing three hats with New Era, out this October.  As for his personal collection, Kaepernick says he probably has about 500 hats and 200 pairs of shoes (mostly sneakers). 1. Misty’s story and body are what dreams are made of! Very inspirational…I believe they told Debbie Allen she couldn’t be a dancer for similar reasons. Congrats to her.
