The Fashion Bomb News Breakdown: Kate Moss Turns 40, Walter Van Beirendonck Makes A Statement With “Stop Racism” Feathered Headdress, and Sarah Jessica Parker Named Curator For New Accessories E-Commerce Site

Kate Moss & Naomi Campbell by Mert & Marcus (Kate & Naomi - Interview Germany December 2012)
• Today is Kate Moss‘s 40th birthday! Naomi Campbell, one of the legendary model’s close friends, penned a column for The Evening Standard to celebrate her bestie’s milestone: “Perhaps what I love best about Kate is that she tries to keep the child within her, I would never want her to lose it,” she writes. “Yes, she’s 40, I’m 43, but it’s always great to have your child in you. It’s that vulnerability that makes you special, that makes you do the creative things, she so has that and when we’re together it comes out. We’re like we’re at secondary school. That’s what happens with girlfriends who’ve grown up together. That’s the charm of the friendship.” Read the heartwarming essay at The Evening Standard. (The Evening Standard)

Miley Cyrus Bowl Cut

• Miley Cyrus is quite an adventurous lass when it comes to her beauty looks, but it seems as if this latest one might be one of her worst. The singer debuted a cropped bowl cut yesterday, which conjured up so many images of Llyod from Dumb & Dumber in my head. What do you think of the cut? Hot! or Hmm…? (Us)

• With all the racially insensitive sartorial missteps made in the name of fashion, you would think that most designers really don’t give a darn if their clothes are offensive to people of color. Just recently, Karl Lagerfeld sent a giant feather headdress down the Chanel pre-fall 2014 runway, which got several tongues wagging.  But it looks like there are a handful of designers who actually care if their garments don’t sit well with the cultures who inspired them. Belgian designer Walter Van Beirendonck took a stance against such offensive behavior during his Men’s Fall 2014 show yesterday, by sending a feathered headdress of his own down the runway, emblazoned with the words “stop racism.” The Cut thinks this headpiece might be Van Beirendonck’s way of throwing shade to Chanel for the “sorry-not-sorry” apology they issued for their Native American-inspired headgear. What do you think? (The Cut)
