The Fashion Bomb News Breakdown: Drake Inks Deal With Nike, A First Look at Peter Pilotto x Target, and Teyana Taylor Loses Adidas Contract

• Nike is picking up where Kanye West left off, having tapped another rapper to partner with since they severed ties with the ex-Louis Vuitton Don. The lucky emcee is Drake, who announced on Tuesday that he will be collaborating with the athletic label on a collection of sneakers. He took to Instagram to show off the samples: rather charming Air Joran 10’s and OVO Stingray 12’s. How do you think  Drake’s kicks size up to Kanye’s Yeezys?  (Billboard, Drake Instagram)

• Speaking of rappers and sneaker endorsements, it looks like Teyana Taylor‘s deal with Adidas has been terminated, likely over that bitter twitter feud she had with Rihanna back in September. If you remember, Teyana posted an Insta-video of herself singing Anita Baker’s “Caught Up in The Rapture,” and Rihanna clapped back with a parody video of her hair stylist Yusef Williams in a wig and snapback, singing the same song– obvious shade. Things escalated quickly from there, but Taylor took it a little too far when she changed her cover photo on Twitter page to a picture of her knocking out Rihanna, superimposing an image of the Bajan singer’s battered face after her 2009 run-in with Chris Brown and her own onto a snap of fighting boxers. Folks hypothesize that it is for this reason that Adidas nixed Taylor. A rep for the label released a statement to confirm the termination: “We have ended our relationship with Teyana Taylor and do not have any upcoming product launches with her.” The rep didn’t say whether or not they ended things over the Rihanna debacle, but it certainly sounds like that may have contributed to her being let go: “All I can say is that Adidas partners with athletes and artists who blend well with our brand values. We evaluate our relationships with partners based on the values we hold at adidas and we don’t condone violence of any kind.” (Necole Bitchie)

• Kanye West might be a god, but no ordinary church will do for his upcoming nuptials to Kim Kardashian. So, where do two of the most culturally relevant people in the world go to tie the knot? France– more specifically, Versailles. A source tells UsWeekly that the ubiquitous pair are looking to have their wedding at the historic home of Louis XIV. “Kanye has never been married and wants a big [wedding],” the phantom source explained to the weekly rag. “They are not working with a budget.” Sounds like it’ll be quite a shindig!  (UsWeekly)

• I think we can all agree that Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week is a veritable zoo. What was once an opportunity for buyers and members of the press to see collections up close and personal has become an excuse for those who aren’t necessarily in the industry to preen and pose with the hopes of getting photographed or catching sight of a celebrity. IMG Fashion, who runs MBFW, is taking matters into their own hands, announcing a series of reforms to the Fashion Week format that could help bring the event closer to its original purpose. “What used to be a platform for established designers to debut their collections to select media and buyers has developed into a cluttered, often cost-prohibitive and exhausting period for our industry to effectively do business,” Catherine Bennett, SVP and Managing Director of IMG  told the Wall Street Journal.  IMG will slash the media guest list by 20% in order to ensure that relevant parties are attending the shows. They are also looking into ways to improve the venues and reduce capacity. What do you think of these proposed changes? (Styleite)

 • has a first look at Peter Pilotto‘s upcoming collaboration with Target. The 70-piece range of apparel, accessories, and swimwear boasts the dizzying prints the house is known for. “Even if it’s a cheaper price point, it was mutually agreed with Target that the collection had to look very Peter Pilotto,” co-creative director Christopher DeVos told ELLE“We chose a couple of prints and used seams to achieve an engineered color silhouette.” So far, the pieces look pretty cute!
