Tamu Curtis, creator of the line, was inspired to design the collection by her father, a black film historian who now curates the long standing Classic Black Cinema Series in Charlotte, North Carolina.
She said, “Hollywood always and still has a direct influence on culture around the world through cinema. Film stars, Marilyn Monroe, Audrey Hepburn and Rita Hayworth have consistently been idolized and promoted as the standard of Hollywood beauty and grace and we want our line to challenge ladies to start wearing t-shirts with Dorothy instead of Marilyn, Eartha instead of Audrey, Josephine instead of Rita. We hope they accept this challenge.”
