Happy Friday Bombshells!
A lot of you have written in asking about my workout routine, so at the top of the year, I’ve finally decided to divulge:

The quick and painless story is that I love going to the gym. For health and vanity reasons I think it’s important to stay in shape, even if only to minimize all the bumps and rolls one may spy under a bit of spandex:) Aside from shopping and writing, I’d put working out on my top five list of things to do in my free time. I hit the gym 3-5 times a week, and at least 2 out of those 5 days I work with a trainer:

Why I love trainers: they know what they’re doing. You’re in and out in an hour. You ensure you’re not wasting your time. And though it’s painful (and can be expensive), it’s the most sure way to achieve your goals. At any rate, here’s a quick breakdown of what I do every week:

Mondays are all about cardio. I’ll hit the stairmaster on a hill interval at level 10 for 45 minutes, or hop on the arc trainer at level 5 for the same amount of time. This ensures lots of sweat with minimal impact on the knees. Tuesday, I LOVE my spin class…! My instructor always plays the best music (from Beyonce to Rihanna to Jay-Z)  and gets you pumped. Wednesday, Thursday, and sometimes Friday, I link up with Emiliano:

For 60 minutes, we do a series of drills together, including lunges, weights, push ups, and other horrible, torturous things.

On the weekend (weather permitting), I run at least 4 miles in the park, outside, bumping to Soulja Boy, Gucci Mane, and an auditory potpourri of Southern Music.
Though I love to work out, I also love to EAT, so have resolved in 2012 that in addition to working out, I’d work on my diet to bring my body to where I’d like it to be. I’ve totally sworn off red meat, eat cheese rarely, stick to poultry and fish, drink mostly water (or coconut water if I want something sweet), and snack on nuts and almonds. Apparently for my body type, it’s best if I’m mostly vegetarian, so I try to eat at least a few all veggie meals, and of course stay up on fruits like apples, oranges, and bananas.
I am FAR from my fitness goals, but hopefully this year I can push it to the limit.
Tell me about your workout routine, how you stay fit, and your goals for the New Year!
Smootches!

  1. Niiiiiice, claire…thanks for posting. I love the arc trainer, spin and kick boxing class, and running as well.

My biggest problem in 2011 was being inconsistent…so that is my main thing…eat right and exercise consistently and I’ll see results.

And I tried the coconut water, but can not stomach it…heard it is awesome though…

  2. Claire, your body is banging!!! Good luck on your fitness goals, you’re my motivation!

  3. You look great. Good luck with your new changes. I always liked personal trainers thats why I love workout DVDs I feel its the trainer without the fee. Shaun T is awesome in Insanity!!!

  4. Well I go to the gym about 4x a week and I do the same thing lol, 15 minutes on the treadmill, 45 minutes on the elliptical and 15 minutes of weight training, it becomes a bit boring at times lol, but i love working out and i’ve managed to shed 30 lbs! =)

  5. Thanks for the post Claire! I had to get a trainer and nutritionist because I started working out to lower my cholesterol, I did not want to lose weight. I do mostly cardio and core routines. No P90x moves for me. LOL. Spin class is my life! I can barely walk to the car but I always love myself for it the next day. I don’t really diet, life’s too short. I eat healthy but I also don’t deprive myself of things I love. My # 1 goal in 2012 is to drink more water.

  6. Thank you for this post, Claire. I’m inspired… I gotta work on toning it up this year.

  7. Claire!!! i see you and I go to the same gym (wont disclose the area), but it lets me know I have some taste in picking a gym….

I recently got a trainer for myself as well and the prices were um, not friendly!

But thankf for the tips I’ll be using them!

  8. Claire – you’re such a cutie patootie in your workout gear.
As for me, I love to run but HATE working out. Run at least 4 days wk. 3 days of short runs (8) if I’m training for a marathon. Got injured recently due to running and not incorporating Xtraining into my routine so I try to do at least 2 days of X training at home. Rest at least one day out of the week. Claire for full disclosure, I have a pic of your legs on my 2012 vision board. Working on getting those legs baby! Ha!

  9. What is your goal as far as fitness is concerned?? I need to try to swear off red meat but my Haitian mother makes it nearly impossible!! Although she does a great job with cooking fish and a lot of vegetables often. Nuts are going to be my best friend as well anything high in antioxidants.

  10. Thanks for the post. I definitely want to start working out-focusing on increasing my endurance and flexibility. On a side note-what kind of camera did you use for the pictures in your post? They are sooooo nice!

  11. Thx y’all! Emiliano is a cutie, huh?
@Bie I tend to gain weight in my chest and my stomach. I also think my arms could use some work. So I’d love Angela Bassett arms and a flat stomach. The goal is to feel hot in a bikini! xoxo

  12. I hate to admit it but I kinda wanna reinvent myself so I wanna get thin this year! lol And that’s super hard bc I love to eat and my body is comfortable at a 10! But the best way I know is to hit the treadmill..cardio, cardio, cardio! Plus I coach volleyball on the side so that keep me toned.

  13. Good focus Claire! I love seeing my brothers and sisters in the gym; I’m a gym faithful (down to 21.5% body fat) myself and always try to get more people. I appreciate that you are showing others the hard work you put in because everyone needs motivation at some point to get to their goals.

PS the no red meat thing is the truth it helped me shave pounds off easily a few years ago when I started. I also try not to eat anything white ( potatoes, white rice, mayo, white bread, etc) which is strict but it delivers results immensely. :-)

  14. i’m built a bit like you (a bit top heavy with lots of leg haha) and love weight training even though it hurts me way more than cardio. I’m trying to do the right thing eating wise and I find that to be the hardest part. I’ve subbed beef for turkey and I eat alot more veggies now but I’m not that creative and hate cooking. It’s gonna be hard but worth it once bikini season starts up. #teamhealthy for the new year!

  15. Emiliano is finer than frog hair! If he was my trainer I’d have a Jlo body by the end of the month!

  16. @ Tricia, GERRLL!

    Claire, you-snap-look-snap-goodgurll-owowoooow

As for my workout, i do cardio (treadmill or elliptical, or both) at least twice a week for 40 minutes

Besides that, i do squats, lunges, and ballet stretches and excercises from this book called the ballet workout. Clothes require for me to look more elegant and postured (which im not naturally) so i figured i fake it till i make it. Im about 30 % on the way :p

Food: broccolli or brussels sprouts are cooked for 4 min. water is put away(to drink, for the vitamins) and then i snack on them when i feel like im having a grazing attack (do this 5 days a week)
Other food: try to eat enough wheats, walnuts, peanutbutter, tomatoes and fish. Also eat chicken. Avoid too much unnecessary nice foods. I LOVE mashed potatoes, so i eat that like 4 times a year :p

Dont eat stuff you love, youre likely to overeat on that ;)

  17. Your level of fitness and diet is impressive, but way to intense for me. I love cheese. Couldn’t imagine giving it up. Hopefully one day I’ll love working out.

  18. This is my goal for the year to get back on a good workout routine. Walking and ballet did wonders on my body. Claire, I see your rocking the shoes you blogged on a few weeks back. I didn’t like them, but they actually are cute with the workout gear. Thanks for the motivation, get it girl!!!!!!!

  19. You look GREAT girl!!! What a regimen! I truly admire your dedication and commitment, thanks so much for sharing.
I’m a lazy bum – no work out regimen, just try to eat fairly decent.

  20. No wonder you love to work out. Your trainer is cute. I see you tryin to poke your booty out in the 4th pic. Lol. I am definitely looking forward to eating healthier this year. I do some at home exercises with weights and I go jogging. Can’t afford a gym right now so any free exercising I can do is what I am sticking to.

  21. First of all you look great so I’m not sure what you mean when you say you’re far from your fitness goals. I wish I loved working out but I don’t I hate it! My biggest challenge is staying consistent with the workouts. So this year I’ve decided to monitor and maintain a healthy eating plan (I.e. low carbs, little to no sodium and sugar, etc.) so far I’m doing pretty good.

  22. I’m just started working out this year again I kind if let myself go. Since I’m a beginner I mostly do cardiograph for 30mins and weight train for 15 min 6 days a week and when I shed some lbs I am going to up my game with classes. My goal is a bikini as well move over Ciara and Amber Rose…lol

  23. I don’t do the gymn but I dance ballet, ride horses, and walk everywhere in Paris. On the note of Paris: Will you be at the shows this January in Paris, Claire? Was great to meet you last October. You look divine in that lead photo.

  24. i would so start working out if he was my trainer. i would even come to ny..he’s soooooooo cute, i would be sweating also

  25. Claire, congratulations on your commitment to your health and fitness. You have a terrific figure, so your hard work must be paying off. Lord knows if I were called upon to give up red meat I would fall apart at the seams.

  26. Nice post and thanks for sharing! I lost 55 pounds last year mostly to fit back into my clothes and for health reasons. Need to get back on track this is giving me motivation. Maybe you can incorporate health and fashion into the blog? :-) beauty does start within right?

  27. I don’t do gym either. For me it’s Zumba, pilates and belly dancing at home. Working out and feeling sexy even when sweating!!!

  28. This was awesome. As a wannabe fashion bomber, I’m steady in the gym and lately I have invested in a trainer and building core strength and mobility. It has been grueling and awesome. Working out is the best thing you can do to improve your style besides finding a great tailor. Co-sign on the dirty south running mix. :)

  29. That spin class is what keeps the gams lookin good! Love cycle!

Also, if anyone is looking for low impact cardio- yoga is always a good workout. I do heated yoga and not only does it keep my weight in check, it also helps keep my mind clear : )

  30. Congrats Claire, you truly are an inspiration to the rest of us. You are the proof that hard work and dedication pay big time.
For all my corporate hardworker women out there, how do you stay fit?
I work almost 60hrs a week and go to school twice a week in the evening. My work schedule is lighter during the summer, ( normal work hrs~40hrs/week), no class,. I barely have enough time to be a mommy and wife, and I would love to incorporate working out in a consistent manner in my life. I am a size 6, I am not trying to lose weight but Lord knows I can use some toning. Any suggestions how I can achieve that?

  31. I swear by Core Fusion classes at any of the Exhale Spas. This is the key to obtaining a flat tummy quickly. I also take Power Plate classes -they’re a good way to get a quick effective workout. Love your regimen though and the tip about coconut water is a great one. Good luck on your goals in 2012

  32. Claire, we have the same body with bith boobs, a stomach and an arm that needs some work. to be honest, i loved spinning but i felt that it made my thighs bulgy rather than lean. i am 5’10 and swear by bikram. it has given me an amazing and quick result all over but is slow in achieving the stomach i crave. but has made me leaner :o)

  33. @kk, I’ve been wanting to try bikram myself. I’m pretty petite and I’m one of those chicks that always loses weight in the summer because of more walking and it being hot, so I sweat. I’m trying to get back to a solid sz 4 top 6 bottom (gotta have more room for the booty). So i feel like being all sweaty with bikram would be good, but I’m kind of scared to do it because… I don’t really exercise.

SO my question is, do you have to be experienced with yoga to go to bikram, or (if you can handle the heat) can you just do bikram?

  34. @Claire, I know I begged you for this article(lol) so THANK YOU and keep up the good work. You look amazing. xoxo

  35. Claire, I love, love, love your site! And you look absolutely AMAZING!!
I too am one that, when I get back in the habit, love going to the gym and working out. But when other things get in the way and I fall off the wagon, Its hard to start up again for some reason.

Per fitness goals, I’d like to eat as clean as possible and get my body as tight as possible. Women often say, “I don’t want to be too muscle-y” but I want it tight. Then if it falls a part again it won’t be that bad. lol

I also would like to be a fashion bomber one day…maybe i’ll add that to my vision board.

  36. I do yoga every morning before work at 5:45am and I run 4 miles in the evenings after work. I use to hit the gym 5 – 7 times a week doing both weight training and cardio (spin and aerobics). My body got toned and everything, but I didn’t feel my fittest. I would say, yoga is EVERYTHING and MORE!!!! My body is quite slender now and my muscles look more sexy toned thana masculine toned compared to when I use to lift weights. I eat whatever I want when I want, however there are things I stay away from. I am a vegetarian and eat nothing ‘full’. Meaning no full cream milk (only soy), no all fat yogurt etc. I eat nothing white (no white bread, pasta, crackers etc)….I gain and lose a few pounds (3-5) ever so often, but that’s all in the game and I welcome it…oh and I’m 115lbs.

  37. cute workout clothes, claire. the thing that has really helped me drop weight and build up my aerobic stamina is spinning. i hate getting on the elliptical or treadmill, and spinning always kicks my ass, and i love it. i also work with a trainer 2 days a week. i also take zumba for fun, and do pilates, yoga, and weights. all this exercise keeps my weight steady but i do need to work on the diet.

  38. She was the ideal of most teenage girls who strived to achieve that level of thin. We simply
love HardX. This in turn prompts the fashion designers to come up with
newer and better collection each passing day so that their clothing can help in enhancing the personality of the wearer.
Hard X now, above all, have a positive go-getter outlook and make
a real effort in pursuing your dream of a fashion modeling career with
    everything you’ve got.

  39. Can I just say what a relief to discover a person that truly knows
what they are discussing over the internet. You definitely know
how to bring a problem to light and make it important. More and more people should check this out and understand this side of your story.
It’s surprising you aren’t more popular because you definitely
    have the gift.
