Hey everyone!
Now that I’ve recovered about 94% of my strength from extreme jetlag, I’m here with a recap of my trip to Paris for Fashion Week! I’m certain that most of you will judge me for the amount of exclamation marks that are going to be used from this point onward, but I obviously can’t contain my excitement! The trip started off a little more roughly than I expected. I’m sure Claire gave you guys the rundown with her crazy landlord. And to add insult to injury, I got a little lost on my way to my first show (A.F. Vandevorst). But I knew the next day would be tons better than the day before.

The next day, Claire and I went to the Isabel Marant show, which had an influx of industry greats like Anna Wintour, Andre Leon Talley, Anna Dello Russo, Linda Fargo, etc. sitting front row. Starstruck? Yeah – just a bit of an understatement. But my camera decided that it would just die on little old me – hence the lack of pictures – and I didn’t have time to get batteries until the next day. I’ve learned my lesson though. Always travel with at least four or more functioning batteries. You never know what you’ll see next.

After that was Maison Martin Margiela. Claire went to Vivenne Westwood, so I was at the Palais de Tokyo on my own. Going up and down stairs until everyone was finally seated clearly foreshadowed what would happen after the show was done. I got to sit front row, but I guess there’s a price to pay for that. I almost fell flat on my behind trying to get up while tripping over a small set of stairs. Someone was kind enough to catch me and save me from total embarrassment.
Cacherel’s PR team didn’t come for games. The security was stricter that I imagine a Beyonce concert would be. We eventually got through and made it in time before the show’s start.
Enough about the fashion though, and on to something all of us love. Food! The food in Paris is just downright delicious and inexpensive! Salmon burgers, omelette du fromage, and other things I cannot spell nor pronounce have me convinced I’m 10 pounds heavier than I was before my trip the space of only three days.
The shopping isn’t as great as I thought it would have been. The clothes themselves are to die for, yes. But most of the things there are more expensive than what you would pay for the same item in the States. And with Paris having so many little streets, one would probably bypass a few stores they’d like since a ton of stores are through those tiny corners. You’d definitely need at least four days alone to shop if you’re a serious credit card destroyer.

I didn’t get a chance to do much sight-seeing, though admittedly, I’m not really a sight-seeing kind of person. But being in Paris, every tourist must get a picture with the Eiffel Tower in it, so I obviously followed suit.

I wish my stay was longer, but I had to make it back home in time for work. *Le sigh*. But I had an amazing time, especially getting so caught up in the excitement and drama that is Paris Fashion Week. It’s definitely a lot more business than New York Fashion Week, but it gives you a feel of the serious side of the industry. Here’s hoping next year will be even better.

Bisous!

Believe it or not, fashion and technology go hand in hand. And the war that went on in my head for the past 5 or so months has finally come to a screeching halt. I’ve decided to get an iPhone over a Blackberry. I just appreciate the duality involved in having a phone that can store copious amounts of music instead of having a cell phone and an iPod. In 2010, let’s just kill two birds with one stone…figuratively of course. We don’t want PETA to come a-knockin’:)
Everyone loves a great jean with a great fit. But casual trousers can refine a look without seeming too pretentious. And to make it more casual without losing the sophistication, they can be paired with a pair of crisp white or gray sneakers.
I recently cleaned out my closet and separated the things that I don’t wear anymore from the things I do, and wound up with a ton of things to donate. It’s always good to spread some cheer, even after the holidays. And it’ll definitely make you feel better to know that you helped someone. Plus, the closet space will surprise you.
