For Vogue‘s Olympics-themed issue, Anna and the gang tapped some of Team USA’s most photogenic athletes; soccer player Hope Solo, swimmer Ryan Lochte, and Serena Williams, photographed by Annie Leibovitz.
It seems Anna Wintour is sticking to her commitment to eschewing impossibly thin models and showing a more diverse range of bodies in the Fashion Bible. Williams and Solo don’t exactly have the long, slender limbs and slight frames we’re used to seeing in Vogue. While I would have liked the cover to have a more high fashion feel, it is an Olympic-themed shoot, so the sporty vibe is appropriate, and the cover models are a welcome change from the usual (monotonous) cycle of starlets Vogue tends to feature.
What do you think of the cover?
